Komento 3.1.2, EasyBlog 5.2.7 and EasyArticles 1.1.3 Released

EasySocial 2.2.1 Released

EasySocial 2.2.1 Released

Phew, what a hectic month! The team and I have been working tirelessly to get as much updates out there as we can and we are happy to announce the availability of EasySocial 2.2.1, this update emphasizes mainly on the rollout of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May 25th, 2018.

GDPR Compliance

EasySocial handles lots of personal data, which also mean site administrators that are hosting social sites for any European users will be held accountable for handling these personal data, therefore it is only obvious to go in accordance with EU's law to avoid any complications. Identical to what we have done for EasyBlog 5.2, users will have the freedom to download their account data in a zip archive from EasySocial 2.2 onwards.

Apart from downloading, EasySocial already allows users to delete their account from the site should they want to. Here are some of the data that can be removed and downloaded by users:

Brand New Toolbar

When we updated the toolbar in EasyBlog 5.2, many users are very happy with the changes that we have added into the toolbar. Therefore, we decided to keep the toolbar to look more uniform across all our extensions. For those who prefer the previous toolbar, fret not as the previous toolbar can still used by switching over to the Breeze theme.

Updated Recaptcha Field

We have also updated the recaptcha field in EasySocial to ensure that it is up to date and supports invisible recaptcha as well. With the invisible recaptcha field, users would no longer need to tick the checkbox any longer to verify that they are a human.

Verified Profiles

You may now configure profile types on the site to set users as verified by default. When a user registers under the selected profile type, their account would be marked as verified by default.

Digest E-mails for Groups

With the introduction of EasySocial 2.2, we have also added e-mail digest for groups. Group members would be able to subscribe to a digest system in which they would be able to receive updates from the group on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Due to the time constraints for the GDPR timeline, we are unable to roll this out on Pages and Events but we are looking at this in the next release.

Cover Refinements

We have also updated the behavior of updating a cover; It is much more refined and now much easier than ever to change the cover photo

Numeric Custom Field

Along with the rest of the updates, we have also added a new Numeric custom field. The new field allows users to enter a numeric number and it is also integrated with the advanced search with pretty cool search criterias.

Discussion Updates

It is now possible to sort items by Oldest first or Latest first for discussion replies. Apart from that, there is a new discussion widget that can be enabled and it will appear on the sidebar of your groups, pages and events.

Photos

In EasySocial 2.2.1, it will no longer generate the stock version of a photo. This would reduce the total disk size used on the site. Apart from that, we have also added a new My Photos module that would display photos created by the current logged in user.

Bug Fixes

This release also includes over 40+ different bug fixes that was collectively reported by customers since EasySocial 2.1.10. The team and I would like to extend our greatest appreciation for helping us hunt down these nasty bugs.

Apps & Template Updates

Apart from the release of EasySocial 2.2.1, we have also updated several apps and templates listed below:
    Package Version
    Mobile Template v2.2.1
    Tablet Template v2.2.1
    Mailchimp Field v2.1.1

    Notes App v2.1.2
    Charm Template v1.0.3

I did not post anything since a week just to let you focus these GDPR updates. ;)
There is little visual change but it feels like playing with a brand new toy...
    - You are writing about PayPlans (yes waiting for it...) but you do not mention EasyDiscuss, can you please inform us?
    - Will you introduce a design setting for the toolbar like in EB?
    - Please also bring asap the toolbar in ED ...

BIG UP to the team! Good job ... and it is not over... ha-ha-ha :)

Haha, thank you for being ever so understanding and yes, we appreciate it very much because juggling between support, deadlines and PayPlans 4 is really very difficult.

Currently we only emphasize the toolbar settings for integrations with EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss. We'll consider adding more settings in the near future :)

As for EasyDiscuss, yes it will get the same toolbar, we just need to apply the GDPR export of EasyDiscuss and Komento as well as creating an integration between all four...

    What a surprise !
I was waiting for EasySocial 2.2 for this summer.
That explains why your blog was so quiet this month ;)

Thanks for the Digest E-mails for Groups tool.

However, will we have another major update in September (EasySocial 2.3) ?

    Thank you

Yep, there are a lot of other features which we couldn't add it into EasySocial 2.2 because of the new GDPR law (which was a last minute addition as we were waiting for Joomla to release their own privacy extension)

Most of the features which we couldn't add in time had to be pushed back to EasySocial 2.3. Once we are done with PayPlans 4 and GDPR compliance with the rest of our extensions, yes EasySocial 2.3 would be released. I do not have the exact date as we are really waiting for the...

For Photos, the stock version was indeed useless ;)
However, it would be interesting if a small version is generated instead (as for EasyBlog).
With a size smaller than thumbnail.

This would be useful to limit the loading time of images on Mobile.
Or to use them in modules (Recents Groups for example).

Thank you for your input on this Philippe, I believe introducing a smaller version would not be ideal as the reason that the stock version was removed was because people are complaining about the disk usage as well as the number of files generated whenever a photo is uploaded.

Perhaps this could be made optional but feel free to post this under the feature requests area.

We use Office and we are picking up errors after upgrading to the latest easysocial version.

I'm intrigued as to where those first images in this blog (https://stackideas.cachefly.net/images/easyblog_articles/745/b2ap3_large_GDPRTemplate-2.jpg etc) come from? I can't find anywhere in EasySocial to display them?
