EasyBlog 5.4 Beta Available Today

EasyBlog 5.4 Beta Available Today

It has been a very hectic January for us with the releases of the all new Fluent template, the activity tracker for EasySocial, the EasySocial Native App and minor updates for several extensions. This time around, we are going to shift the spotlight over to EasyBlog, the best blogging extension for Joomla! ✨

Read on to explore more about the awesome updates packed into EasyBlog 5.4!

Joomla 4 Compatibility

EasyBlog 5.4 is now compatible with Joomla 4! With this release, EasyBlog will now work on both Joomla 3.x and Joomla 4.x out of the box!

As Joomla 4 is on the horizon, we strongly urge you guys to start prepping your staging sites for Joomla 4. While you are at it, do try out EasyBlog with Joomla 4 😊

PDF Viewer for Mobile 📱

Mobile devices are taking over the internet and without proper access to PDF, it will be impossible for users with mobile devices to read PDFs (This is especially true for Safari on mobile).

In this release, the team added the PDF viewer for mobile into EasyBlog 5.4 and this would allow users with a mobile device to view PDF documents!

Standardizing Fonts

With EasyBlog 5.4, you can now turn off the ability to access font styles in the built-in composer. This would effectively enforce the styles of your blog to inherit the style defined from your site.

Search for Settings

Along with this update, we have also added the capability to search for settings at the back-end which is pretty similar to what PayPlans and EasySocial offers!

Relocated Autoposting Settings

In EasyBlog 5.4, the settings for Twitter and LinkedIn auto posting is now moved to a new page on its own called Auto Posting. With this change, users can now configure auto posting for both Twitter and LinkedIn without the need to go to the Edit Profile page on EasyBlog.

In return, this would have a better user experience when integrated with EasySocial.

Locked Post Templates

We have also added a new feature to allow post templates to be locked. It is handy when it comes to disallowing authors to modify the structure of the post with the built-in editor.

Think of this as an option to "fill-in-the-blanks" for your authors.

New Icon Indicators

To simplify your day to day management, we have also added a new icon to indicate posts that are scheduled by authors from the site.

Drop Caps

We have also added the option to capitalize and enlarge the first letter in the paragraph. ✌️

Blogger Module

Similar to how a tag cloud work, we have also added a blogger cloud to display a list of authors and weigh them on the number of posts that they have.

Don't use tags on the site? Fret not! You can now configure related posts to use relations from either Tags, Category or Post Title!

Custom ACL for Categories

With the advance ACL in categories, you can now target specific users to be able to compose into categories without needing to have multiple user groups created on your site. We can see how handy this would be for most of you with ton of editors.

Video as Post Covers

Along with this update, you can now start uploading videos for your post covers! 📹

Improved Built-in Comments

With this improvement, the user's replies will not have overflow issue and it will now load properly in the mobile view.

Infinite Scrolling for Grid Layout

The team has also added infinite scrolling for the grid layout. This would allow users to scroll through the Grid layout with ease!

Accordion Block

We have also added a new accordion block. An accordion block is a block that allows you to organize contents into collapsable items.

Helix Integrations

We have also added a new Helix theme which is optimised for Joomla templates powered by the Helix framework. With the Helix theme, it works pretty similarly to the UIKit theme where it will inherit styles from the template.

GDPR Compliance for Medias

Previously, this was a concern for most users because external resources such as Facebook and Youtube wasn't compliant with GDPR.

To improve the protection of our your user's data, we have added the GDPR compliance for iframes that are embedded on the site.

Auto Converter for AMP Pages⚡️

We have also optimized the HTML block to automatically convert invalid html tags into valid Google Accelerated Media Pages (AMP) format in order to reduce possible AMP validation issues.

Beta Testers Needed!

Please take note that this is still a beta version, we strongly advise you to install the beta version on your development or staging sites instead of your live site to prevent any unforeseen issues on the site.

Feel free to submit all the bug reports or feedback to the EasyBlog 5.4 Issue Tracker that found on the button below as well.

Enjoy the testing everyone!

Hello !
Good work :)
Do you plan integration with Structured Data (SEO) ?
For example your new Accordion Block would fit perfectly with the Structured Data FAQ.

Thank you

So glad that you focus on mobile and also start testing using Joomla 4 that will be with us for long long time ahead!

Thks best dev team in the world!

Thank you ssnobben, appreciate it very much.

Is your new version fix the problem with google map integration?

I am not entirely sure which problem are you referring to, what issues were you facing with Google maps?

Hello. Can I use linked Video as Post Covers? Thanks.

Currently it only supports uploaded videos.

Sounds awesome, guys!

I have a not released site and wonder if you can install and test it there ? where you have the latest EB stable version and install it test it there. Can you install it over this version?

You are more than welcome to install it on any sites that you want

Many thanks for this Beta release who is one of the must waited for us with the support of :
- Video as post cover
- Helix support framework
- PDF mobile support
- Standardizinf font who is a real problem for the final user who copy past text from word...
And for sure Joomla 4 support.
Thanks !

Thank you!

Can I recommend a feature? I would love if the post display modules were able to define more precisely which posts to display.

For instance, allowing the random post or the most popular module to only display posts created within a user defined date range (30 days, 90 days, etc . . . ). This allows me to feature the hottest blogs from the last month rather than all time.

For displaying most recent posts, it would be nice to be able to tell the module to skip a user defined number of most...

For displaying most recent posts, it would be nice to be able to tell the module to skip a user defined number of most recent posts. Why? Well, if I use the Magazine layout at the top of my page but only want to display 5 posts in it before inserting an ad module (or some other content module), I would like to insert another EB module that starts at the 6th most recent post.

I imagine these features would be easy to add, and they would greatly increase the utility of EB modules for website design. Other extensions provide these features for articles - this could be a way to flip articles users who are on the fence about switching over to EasyBlog.

Thanks again for building great products!
