Updates On StackIdeas Site

As some of you may have noticed, we have performed a major update on our site and the site was inaccessible for about 45 minutes. This update has been long due and I am super happy that we finally updated the site.

Previously our site was running on Joomla 2.5 and it was upgraded since Joomla 1.0. The upgrade path from Joomla 1.5 to 2.5 was a huge mess that all of us need to manually patch the files and the entire database is out of sync. It was a nightmare each time we update between 2.5.x .

This time around, we decided to update our Joomla site to the latest version, 3.6.2 since the 3.x series has built in automated updater, we'll have peace of mind when it comes to updating. By updating to Joomla 3.x, we can also safely update to PHP7 and because of that, we have reduced almost 300ms - 400ms in initial load time of the page. How awesome was that!

Hello Jean,

Thanks for the input on this, checking this right now. This is why I hate closed source systems because I have no access to the source codes.

Good move Mark, J3 is indeed a lot easier to manage. :) Hopefully you guys are using http2 as well. Been really loving http2+ssl+php7! :D ES 2.0 is going to really be a game changer in terms of speed and awesome features.

Thanks Josh! We haven't moved over to HTTP/2 yet as we need to run more tests on those language, version and installation services because cURL with HTTP/2 is a little different than 1.1

I LOVE the new look of your Forum. Is that template built into our software now? Can I make my forum look like yours. It is much easier to follow and make sense and know which tickets are resolved and locked. Very good job. I want it. :-)

We actually modified this purely through template overrides and our new forums simply shows the underlying capability of EasyDiscuss that one can really build it with.

We may look into adding some of the layouts used on our forums in the wireframe theme of EasyDiscuss though.
