Setting Up Advanced Search Global Filter

Setting Up Advanced Search Global Filter

Advanced search in EasySocial is a powerful feature where it allow users to easily search almost everything, that includes their potential life partner. ;)

This feature was introduced back when the first version of EasySocial was released, we have improved most of the search behavior, including the ability to set up custom filters by allowing users to search the contents with just a single click.

Setting It Up

Step 1: Configure the search criteria

First, we can start by accessing the main page of advanced search. From there, you should be able to see the search criteria that you can configure freely.

Step 2: Create new filter

Now in the search result page, there will be a new button called "Create New Filter". Click on the button and it will bring you to a popup configuration.

Step 3: Enable the checkbox above will ensure that the filter is accessible by all users on your site

With the popup being displayed to you now, name the filter based on the criteria that you have chosen. The filter name should be simple and self-explanatory, giving the ease of understanding for most of your users. Next, you will need to check the checkbox on the popup to make the filter as a sitewide filter.

Configuring The Menu Item

Lastly, you can also create a menu item specifically for the filter that you have created in advanced search. Simply go to your Joomla back-end menu configuration, and add a menu item called "EasySocial (Search) Advanced Search Layout". Choose the pre-select filter from the menu configuration and you are good to go. It is just that simple!

I find the advanced search system very powerful ! :)

It would be very interesting to see its potential grow and spread throughout the site, thanks to a new module : Custom Field Search Module

With the support of Conditional Custom Fields, so that the tool is even more powerful !

Thank you,
Philippe

Yes! The Advanced Search Filter is indeed powerful, but ES only provide that power to end users and leave the Site Admin blind on the data it creates. How do I as site admin take advantage of the data that that power generates? For example, what search criteria is best used this week? If people are mostly searching for Female, I guess a lot of people are looking for partners ;p so, as site admin I can come up with marketing strategy for men. That is just one example. It would be great if ES...

Hi Jackson,

Thanks for the suggestions! With the new GDPR law coming up soon, it will a little bit tricky to log user search data for administration benefit however with user consent it should be possible. We will see what we can do in the future. :)

Ah yes! Maybe one cool thing to add as a feature with ES search is the ability for users to choose, do you want this field searched? Instead of giving that choice to the site admin. I guess it is time to create a Search Settings :P I know Mark doesn't want to add more Settings but ES is a complex application.

Thanks,

Jackson

Yes, no matter how tricky this become it is still possible as long the implementation is done correctly. Thanks again for the insight Jackson. :D

Yes indeed the new law GDPR will indeed jostle us a little. We will have to adapt.

Just like EasyBlog 5.2, we will also be rolling out EasySocial with similar GDPR resolution. I guess EasySocial is much easier because it already supports one portion of GDPR where it allows users to delete their own account.
