Joomla 3.4 and EasySocial 1.3.20 is released

Joomla 3.4 and EasySocial 1.3.20 is released

Joomla have released the latest version, Joomla! 3.4 on the 24th of February 2015. According to Joomla!'s official announcement, Joomla! 3.4 introduces new features such as improved front end module editing, decoupling of weblinks, composer integration, Google new reCaptcha and security improvements by implementing UploadShield code which can detect most malicious uploads by examining their filenames and file contents.

There are also some minor GUI improvement on the backend, particularly on how the sidebar looks like. The team were quite amazed at this update and have done some experiment with it during their free time.

Compatibilities With EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss, EasySocial and Komento.

After quite a few hours of testings, we've concluded that Joomla 3.4 is compatible with all of our products and you are safe to update your Joomla. In fact, we highly recommend you to update your Joomla to the latest version as there are security patches applied. Of course, should you believe that the latest Joomla broke our component (which shouldn't be happening, actually), you can always contact our support team via our Official Forum or our CRM and we will assist you accordingly.

Previous Joomla Versions.

I've noticed that we have not stressed this out to our users. As of the 31st of December 2014, Joomla! 2.5 have reached the end of it's support cycle. This means that there won't be any update patches from the Joomla! Dev team, though the Joomla! community might have some patches. The Stack Ideas team highly suggest for you to update your Joomla to the latest version to ensure that your Joomla! is secured.

You can get more info on Joomla! 3.4's release here.

New Updates : EasySocial 1.3.20

We have also released the latest EasySocial version, EasySocial 1.3.20. We've added three new features for this release. The features are :

New Privacy Rules

We've added a new privacy rules : Post Comment. With this setting, users are able to set which Profile Types are able to comment on their shared stories. By default, this is set to "Registered Users". Setting can be found under 'Privacy' menu.

New Group's Permission Setting

Just like the previous new feature, the new group's permission setting allows the admin (or the group's owner) to determine the which member types are allowed to post in their groups.

The setting can be found under backend > EasySocial > Theme.

Browse Users

We've also added 'Browse Users', where you will be given the option to turn on or off this feature. By turning on, users on your site are able to browse the registered users by just a simple click on the mouse. The setting can be found in the theme's setting :

When it's turned on, the menu to browse users is available under the toolbar menu :

...and by clicking it, users will be redirected to the browse user's page :

Apart from these new features, EasySocial 1.3.20 includes bug fixes such as country multilist not displayed in profile, and other issues related to privacy and profiles. We suggest for you to upgrade your EasySocial to the latest version to ensure that your site is up-to-date and have all the new features that we are offering. You can either download/renew your license by clicking on the 'Renew EasySocial' button, or you can view the changelog by clicking on the "View Changelog" button.

All thoughts and comments are welcome. :)

Hi there!

Is it possible to browse users only from one of profile type? For example, I'll browse only users from teachers or students profile type

I'll be grateful for your reply! :-)
best regards
Adam

Hey Adam!

Ah, currently that is not possible via plain installation. It can only be achieved if you hack the codes.

Possibility to set custom profiles privacy to be set to different profile type?

Like student profile fields (roll number, classroom, mobile) be visible only to the teachers and hide from other registered users?

Hey Niumai! Thank you for your inquiry. However, currently this feature is not available in EasySocial.

Congrats and Thanks to the SI superheroes.... just upgraded to 1.3.20 ok but I don't see the new 'Browse Users' feature on the Frosty theme? I see it on Wireframe but not Frosty... Can you replicate that?

Hi Andy!

In the midst of the excitement, we actually missed out on Frosty's update. Sorry about this!

Our developer has already committed the files into the repo; a new minor release will fix this.

By default after upgrading to ES 1.3.20, the Browse Users menu will disappear in frontend. You must edit your theme (Wireframe for me), change nothing and save so that the Browse Users menu is back.

This shouldn't be the case. Thank you for pointing this out, I'll forward this to our developer.

OK, I'm having several issues since I updated to 1.3.20 (like blank pages in background), I'll investigate this and maybe ask for support in the forum.

Hi stackideas team
I am quite interested in easysocial. when I go through 13.20 changelog I glad to know that finally setting option “which member types are allowed to post in their groups.” is added for group owner. I think these kinds of more options available to group owner so as group owner he/she have more control over group.
The only pitfall I notice in group feature of easysocial is: Any member of group is able to delete files of group. Take a scenario : A User create a Group name ”World Rare user manual ” after hard work of two or three months he add various PDF files of user manual in FILE section of group, other member also contribute by adding some files. But some day a BAD user just join the group and he delete all files because he has privilege to do that. All hard work of group owner and its loyal members just vanish. My suggestion is that such privilege to delete Group files only available to group owner , group other member can just contribute by adding files, no privilege to delete files or there is setting available to group owner to choose among members those have such kind of privilege to delete group files resource.

I hope team consider my humble suggestion in next release of easysocial. so I happly buy easysocial next release
Thansks
Best wishes for Your’s all products

Easysocial is very impressive. Some questions :

1) Can each member has her own blog with ability to choose own theme and widgets and rss feeds in side bar ? Think Wordpress Multisite which comes with multiblogging. As a demo user in the demo site, I find that I have to "install" Blog separately and after installation there is no message to the user, how she will start or a "create new blog post" link. Easysocial is very impressive. Some questions :

Think Wordpress Multisite which comes with multiblogging. As a demo user in the demo site, I find that I have to "install" Blog separately and after installation there is no message to the user, how she will start or a "create new blog post" link. After some groping I found the Blog link in profile but on clicking it there is loading icon forever and nothing loads.
Can blog posts be commented and Liked both from the blog post page itself and the activity stream? If answer to both the questions is "Yes" I guess lot of Wordpress+Buddypress users will be seriously interested in EasySocial. [ Sideview : why not an integration with Wordpress Multisite too, along with Joomla ? ]

2) The default behavior of Activity stream for Album and photos elsewhere is like this :
(a) You post multiple photos - the comment in the activity stream goes to the Album containing that multiple photos
(b) When you post a single photo to an already existing album, the single photo shows up in the Activity stream instead of the entire album tiles and comment made below that single photo in the Activity stream goes to that single photo (the page containing that photo)
(a) is there in EasySocial but (b) is not there - its confusing w.r.t to other actual social nets or social scripts like Elgg
(c) In the Activity log of the user, each photo takes up an entry when say some 200 photos are uploaded - thsi makes the log cumbersomely long - just group the photos in the Activity log too like Activity stream or at least offer that option to user/admin
(d) In "View All Albums" page of the user one has to click on the "View Album >" to open the Album and then Add/Upload photos - please add "Add photos" link along with "View Album"
(e) From "My profile" page Photo Album thumbnails, when clicked, do not go to the Album thumbnails page but instead opens up a single photo in overlay. This is confusing.
(f) When individual photo thumbs are clicked from Album thumb pages they shoul dideally lead to a normal page containing that photo and other stuffs (likes tags etc) instead of overlay. Overlays are usually from Activity stream.

3) Can Events be directly created by the user without admin approval ? The demo sites do not let post event and I cannot see any "Yes / No / Maybe attending" list.

4) Can site members delete account and take-away a backup of their content at the time of deletion ( or anytime)?

Thanks.

Hi Bitasa,

Thank you for your comments. The comment section are limited and hence I won't be able to answer much of your pre-sales inquiry; if there' anything that I've missed, please send a ticket to our support team and we'll get the rest.

As for your inquiries :

As for your inquiries :

1. EasySocial doesn't really have a built-in blogging system; what you saw in the demo site is an EasySocial app that works with both EasySocial and EasyBlog; the latter is our blogging component which you can check it out here. Blogging can only be done by going to the blogging page (EasyBlog) and cannot be done on the Activity Stream. Currently we don't have any plans on integrating with Wordpress Multisite, but that is a cool feature and we'll keep one eye on the development.

2. As for your photo sharing inquiry, I've tried to share multiple photos on both our demo page and my local installation but I am unable to replicate the 'issue'. As for your other suggestions, I'll make a note and share with the developers; but it would be best if you can share them in our Voices portal.

3. Yes, there is a setting for the admin to allow user to post Event without going though the moderation process; this setting is to be found under the "Profile Type" setting in the backend.

4. I believe that this is not possible as Joomla itself doesn't have the option for user to backup their content before deleting.

Hope these answers your question. For any further Pre-Sales or Post-Sales inquiries, do contact our team via our CRM or via our Official Forum.

- What are the easy steps to install Joomla and this Easysocial ? I installed Joomla but by default no login/register box ( I could later found it hidden under options) , no comment etc. A pictorial guide will be welcome.
- Do you have any plan for an EasySocial plugin for Wordpress Multisite 4.4.1 ?

Best regards
