EasySocial 2.1 Beta 2

EasySocial 2.1 Beta 2

We are getting there! The team is wrapping up the development for EasySocial 2.1, tirelessly fixing all reported bugs while still experimenting several new ideas on the fly. This will be the final beta before we go into an RC release.

Instead of just bug fixes, we also went head on with the mobile template and docker to revamp some of the functionality and aesthetics.

Docker Plugin

The default color of the Docker does not seem to match or fit some of our customers' sites, which in turn propel many users to request the ability to change colors. However, it was not possible to achieve this out of the box back then.

Now together with the EasySocial 2.1 update, site admins can easily hand pick any color from the color picker in the plugin settings.

Mobile Web Template

Similarity, we have also added a color picker for the Mobile Web Template as well. This gives admins the ability to change the background color for the toolbar and footer area.

Other than covering the aesthetic element of the app, we have also added the "pull to refresh" feature. This simple yet essential feature for any mobile app, which we had previously overlooked. :(

At the same time, we have tweaked and optimized the action bar for both Iphone and Android views respectively. By incorporating all these "must-have" into this update will improve the overall user experience on their mobile devices drastically.

Bug Report

Should you encounter any bugs in Beta 2, be it on your development site or on our live demo site. Please do not hesitate to send in your report so the team could rectify it as soon as possible.

Feature Requests

As we strive to deliver you the best of our extensions, your ideas do matter! Do you have a brilliant idea for the next major release? Why don't you share it with us at our features request page. When great minds are gathered together, we are able to do so much more. And who knows your idea might be included in the next update.

Before I forget, Joomla 3.8 was released yesterday and it has some pretty amazing update such as new routing system, Joomla 4 compatibility, improved sample data installation and many more.

More importantly, we have tested all of our Joomla! extensions and we find that all the latest version of our products are compatible with Joomla 3.8. Download and upgrade your Joomla site to v3.8 today!

Great update on the mobile template guys. Just one question, can we disable the search area from the header before login only and replace it with a logo instead?

I would second that, search showing before login is a little confusing and having some room to show off the site logo would be nice touch.

With the enhancements to the mobile template, you can upload a logo and that logo would be replaced with the home icon.

And yes, the search would not appear unless you are logged in.

Looks like great progress as usual. Can I just ask a question as I see that LinkedIn will now be supported on login. I currently use the plugin JFB connect for my linkedIn login as of course it did not exist in easysocial before. Now that in easysocial linkedIn is support is it just a matter of configuring easysocial LinkedIn and deactivating the JFB connect and can existing users who have already used JFB connect to register their user account with my site, will there login work or would it...

I would love to switch over and keep it all to easysocial but of course if it breaks all the logins for existing users then I am stuck here a little. Thanks for your time.

Same case here, we are using JFB for social connexion (facebook, twitter, linkedin).
If its possible to import the existing users connexions with JFB to ES.

I believe no need for JFB after that for social logging
on other hand JFB import users data from their social profiles to ES custom fields, and this is not the case with easysocial social connect feature, not ?

Hm, I think for this to continue to work, there needs to be a migrator that migrates all the data from JFBConnect but if your users know their username / password, they could just sign in with their LinkedIn / Facebook or Twitter account and link to their account by specifying their username and password

If you can please consider to change custom color for All buttons in ES (Eg. Log in, Share, Add as friend, Register)

We hardly change those colors in the custom.css
an option in ES to change the primary colorts would be awesome (like you guys).

Hi Mark,

Does ES v2.1.x Beta 2 supports J!3.8 new routing feature? No more ids in the url?

Thanks,

Jackson

Yep, we are heading towards that direction and I don't think we are able to push this into 2.1 but at least 2.1.x

EasySocial is a really huge system and it's going to take a while to slowly re-build these urls.

No worries Mark, totally understand. I was just wondering I was actually thinking, wow! could they change their code to use new routing that fast? Looking forward to it in the future releases.

By the way, how or where do I get esmobile to test?

Thanks! -J

Hello,

Great improvement to the Docker plugin!

May I offer one suggestion, please: I think it would look much better if the input elements (i.e., the search field, username/password, and remember me check box) either picked up the color assigned to the background of the Docker toolbar or had separate color controls in the configuration options. Under the former approach, you could apply css style to the inputs for the background using something like this: background: rgba(255,255,255,...

Hello,

Great improvement to the Docker plugin!

May I offer one suggestion, please: I think it would look much better if the input elements (i.e., the search field, username/password, and remember me check box) either picked up the color assigned to the background of the Docker toolbar or had separate color controls in the configuration options. Under the former approach, you could apply css style to the inputs for the background using something like this: background: rgba(255,255,255, .15); so that it matches the color of the toolbar. Alternatively, for white/light toolbars you could add something like this: background: rgba(0,0,0, .15);

You guys know this better than I do, but I think you understand where I'm going with this: The white background of the old Docker toolbar input elements was inconsistent with the background of the Wireframe toolbar input elements. It would look much better in my opinion of the styling of the inputs in the Docker toolbar were at least consistent with the styling of the inputs in the Wireframe toolbar.

On the other hand, maybe this won't be an issue after the release of the "Vanilla" template.

The same idea would apply to the Docker login/register buttons: A consistent style using the same css class used in your components would help make Docker blend seamlessly with "Vanilla" or Wireframe, whichever the case may be.

Thank you and congratulations on all the progress and positive changes you have made recently

Hello guys, i posted a new feature request to add a friends invite in registration as last step, we use that as custom fields but its not easy to handle it as we must send inivte messages mannaully!

A second one (i am soo excited about 2.1 sorry) to use members names instead of website name as email sender (Marc via Stackideas instead of Stackideas) :

Thanks for the new features of the Mobile Web Template!
Good work.

I love the toolbar "Timeline" and "Information" for Profiles (based on the Horizon theme I suppose).
Please, could you also put this toolbar to Groups, Pages and Events?

Thank you.

Totally agree - that is such a user experience improvement. It really should go everywhere it can... I find that without this users are missing so much content. They just don't see the two areas currently. So +1,000,000 wishes for this navigation improvement to be rolled out consistently everywhere!

About the music feature. Is there any module that you can set up/use so you for example can add that to a page and make it automatically play?

Could be usefule if there is a podcast or music that you would like to start playing on any page you like ie home page or specific pages with specific podcasts or songs.

What you think?
