EasySocial 1.2.0 RC5

EasySocial 1.2.0 RC5

Folks, just an update on our progress and some of you may have been curious as to why there were some slight delays from RC 4 to RC 5. I must admit that we've made some mistakes on our end when we were dealing with the language strings in emails and this causes problems when the site is multi lingual. With the updates on RC 5, you will be able to build a true multi lingual social network for your Joomla! powered website.

These are some of the cool stuffs we have developed from RC4 to RC5:

True Multi Lingual Site

Your users can choose whichever language they want and all the email titles, content, notifications will load in it's own respective language. Most extensions in Joomla! does not cater this but we have taken the lead by ensuring our extension to be 100% multi-lingual for site builders.

Story Redefined

Remember the post regarding RC1? We have been constantly testing this and getting valuable feedbacks from our customers even on it's RC stages. We were still a little unhappy over the usability of the story form and thus have decided to revamp the story once again; giving you a very elegant finishing. This new layout will, of course, ensure that users on the site to continuously uses the story form to post updates. What good would your stream be if it's too difficult to use?

Moods!

Some of you may be a little surprised that we've managed to include moods in this release but as mentioned in the forum post earlier, we'll try our best to ship everything that we possibly could.

By the way, did I mentioned that you can set custom text for your moods? :)

Finder Integrations

Most people have been inquiring about the inability to search other items apart from EasySocial related items. In RC5, we have decided to plug out our internal indexer and rely completely on the finder provided by Joomla!. We have also added several finder plugins in EasySocial, allowing you to have the search function work within EasySocial or your other favorite finder modules.

EasySocial 1.2.0 RC5 will probably be one of the fewer last release candidates before we start shipping the stable release. I would also like to thank our awesome beta testers and customers for continuously assisting us right from the beta release.

As always, you can always get hold of the latest BETA or RC at our Issues Section

First comment :p and Thank you for understanding Mark. In case you guys are not aware of this, getting the multi-lingual translations is a pain in the A!! We have to modify lots and lots of email template files as well as the language strings (But it was our mistake in our very first release of 1.0.0 and we have to make it up to it now).

Thanks a lot Raphael :) Appreciate your insights on this. EasySocial 1.2.0 stable will be released when there are no more issues reported or we have ironed out most of the issues and usability. It should be pretty soon because the latest RC5 is almost pretty stable already :)

Hey Mark. Does that mean the search area (in Easysocial) will search not only for members, photos, groups, etc. but also search throughout the site? (within posts?. Also, would it search through EasySocial tags?

Thanks again!

Hello David,

Yes, that is correct. As long as there is a finder or a.k.a Smart Search plugin installed on your Joomla site, it will be search-able through the search in EasySocial.

Advanced Search however is for "users" only though since those relies on custom fields of EasySocial.

Mark, I officially love you and stackideas! Finder integration was my number one issue that needed to be resolved! <3!!!! Thank you!!!

Now, I just hope that one of these days you get inspired to offer the EasySocial sidemenu as a module, the same way as you did with the toolbar :)

Thanks for the <3 Jannik :) Creating a sidebar as a module is very tricky and it's actually close to impossible. Not because we can't do that, but it really depends on your Joomla template. Sidebar module would take up a very long vertical space and depending on your module position, it could be really tricky.

Excellent work, StackIdeas! Even with RC4, I didn't found any bugs. RC5 is live on my website and looks great!
Keep the good work

As always Mark, good work!

To clarify, with multi language, is there a translation aspect here such as Google Translate or Bing API? How does content do this?

  Attachments
Your account does not have privileges to view attachments in the comment

Darren,

We don't actually translate "users" content because that would be close to impossible to really translate them. For instance, posting a status update and translating them would be crazy :p However, our emails, notifications and everywhere else are 100% ready with multi lingual.

For instance, if user A uses Spanish and user B uses English, they will receive emails, notifications and etc in their own localized language :)

Hi Mark

Thanks for clarifying. Ordasoft do a really good job of translating on the fly. Using google or bing api , it saves the content to database in the chosen language so saving api calls. I have tried this with EasyDiscuss, and it is amazing to see conversations translate. The premium version also allows to edit translation and change the url headings.

Many commercial chat helpdesks like Zendesk do this, so I guess the issue is how that could integrate with Joomla language library.

Hi Mark, you all are doing a great job. You've also added many unexpected things; speaking of which, do you think you can add a "little" imagick adapter to the existing image processing library? Please, you already told me that the script you currently use has some sort of imagick adapter, if you can't or just feel it inappropriate a this time, could you at least tell me how to make it work?
Thank you.

Hello Antonio,

We're using Asido library to manipulate images. You can try looking at /administrator/components/com_easysocial/includes/image/adapters/asido/ but we're going to change this library in the future. Maybe you should wait for 1.3 since we are going to support really cool stuffs with ImageMagick? :)

Thanks for answering Mark. I already tried to "hack" it myself but I'm not good enough at it.

I trust you, I'll wait for 1.3 ;)
