EasyBlog 5 : A Closer Look At Composer

EasyBlog 5 : A Closer Look At Composer

As stated by Mark on our previous EasyBlog 5's update, I'm writing about one of the cool features that are available in EasyBlog 5's composer. For those who's still in the dark, we've build a completely new composer for EasyBlog 5 and it's one of the crème de la crème features for it. Seeing that it's a very, very huge feature, it will take a lifetime for me to blog everything about it. I'll take one 'mini features' (if you may call it) to talk about: the new composer's text editor.

Resizing Text

One of the cool features about the composer is how you resize your text. I have my own personal blog and I am quite annoyed that I cannot edit my text's size apart from using the paragraph option to resize my text size or to insert an inline CSS. One of the vision for the new composer is to make it as a simple tool for those who wishes to use simple tasks (like resizing the text) but still retains the flexibility for the more advanced users.

Making videos will take a lot of time (we've learnt that the hard way!). Here's a .gif that we've managed to create to show you about text resizing.

As you can see, you can resize your text size by using a slider instead of a drop down menu. You will no longer have to use 'paragraph' or get your hands dirty with inline codes. This, my friend, will save lots of your time. Trust me on this.

Managing Multiple Links

Links are such a pain if you ask me. If I have three links in one sentence (example : Stack Ideas's Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus pages), you will need to highlight one text at a time in order to edit it. In the example above, if I want to fix the link in both 'Twitter' and 'Facebook', I would have to do it one at a time.

Imagine if you have more than 5 links. Sure is a pain, isn't it?

We have the solution here in EasyBlog 5 :

Editing links in EasyBlog 5 EB5 N5XT

Yes, it's that easy. Just highlight all the links, our Composer is smart enough to gather those links in one 'form' so that you are able to edit or remove any links that you prefer. We are definitely sure that this is a time-saver especially for a marketer (like me!). You can also use this feature to check all of the links that you've used in one article. Truly something to look forward to.

Subscript

Good news to all chemist! You will no longer have to use any Alt-code when you wanted to write your formula. Watch how you can write formulas, like H2O, using EasyBlog 5's composer :

EasyBlog 5 composer subscript

I believe this is also a good news to our mathematician friends. :)

Other Updates

We are nearly done with the EasyBlog 5. The composer is one of the most complex feature that we've ever code. However, the Stack Ideas team always pushes ourselves to provide the best to our users. We are 101% sure that EasyBlog 5 will worth the wait. It's also worth mentioning that EasyBlog 5 Alpha version will be available to the active license holders, so if you want to be from amongst the early-adopters, you can (and should!) renew your license or get a new EasyBlog license.

You can take advantage of the current promotion coupon code that we have with our friends at BowThemes. In case you've missed it, the coupon code is :

STACKBOW20

With this coupon code, you'll get a 20% discount off from EasyBlog purchase. Quite a good offer in my humble opinion, considering that you will be getting EasyBlog 5 should your license is active when we release the EB5 Alpha version. :)

Thanks

Hi Alexandre,

Seeing that it's an Alpha release, it should be available through our support forum. We do not want to risk of giving the access through our user's dashboard due to the fact that it's an Alpha version, and not the full public release.

However, we will inform you should we decide to release the Alpha version via any other channels.

My Blogger should just add there location, write text, add images, galleries, videos and links..thats it! therefore i would need default layouts and ACl settings for all these new Composer Blocks and editor stuff. only admins or moderator should be able to change text size or whatever! is that possible with our great EB5 composer?

@René this isn't a complete answer but if you search for "template" on this page you'll see some information from Mark that's on-point, at least partially to your question.

Hi Rene, sounds like you need some sort of a 'Quick Post' feature? Talked to Mark about it, I am to understand that Quick Post is available in EasyBlog 5. Will re-confirm back with him and get back to you shortly.

hi Ahmad, if you mean a quick Post Feature like in EB 3.9 then i must say no! what i need is more like Default Forms/Layouts/Template where composer Blocks/functions can be defined and assigned with ACL on the basis of joomla usertypes. currently i have to revise each new Blog entry..some blogger put the Images on top, other on buttom of Text..the next one forget to add a Blog Image..other try to resize there Image thumbs in Editor so they looks all bad..next one try to move there added...

Hi Eileen! Haven't heard from you for quite some time.

I'm not so sure about tool; our designer used something named Giffify (sp?) and I was informed that this is actually a dev tools, it runs via Terminal. I'm pretty sure that there's some GUI converter out there that can convert videos or a series of images into .gif.

i like the new focus from wordpress about the editor "distraction-free writing" - what i saw, in the other blog from the composer, that you are getting in the same direction, a cleaner look, i like this. but please do not lose your focus & time on such "text size slider thing" features ... less is more!
from the view of a blogger: they would like a distraction-free writing space and no setup page - EASY blogging

point of view of a admin: with this many settings options i really hope that it is possible to limit the appearance of the blogs - corporate design!

one thing more, why do you not exclude the media-management as an separate tool (or library) where all your other tools hook in? Komento and EasyDiscuss are the next lagging tools when images are used in contend ... you do not have to maintain media-manager for all your tools, only one and the bridges to the tools itself.

Would be possible to update from EasyBlog3 to EasyBlog5 without losing any data?

Yes, it will incorporate a built-in maintenance tool to fix old data However, old data needs to be rendered with old editors and not the new composer though

Hello,

really impress by your work but also a bit afraid !!
if i allow bloggers to use text resize i'll have so many differences between blog post...
i was dreaming of a EB5 simpler than EB3.9... and i am now afraid with to many possibilities for bloggers...

Bloggers are sometimes confused by using the actual media manager (image size...)... How it will be if we offer them too much possibilities ! (even if i understand that for some of us those features are maybe important)

like Rene or n00bster as and admin of a multiblogger website i want to focus on simplicity...
yes, definitely : LESS is more !

All web apps, phone apps are focused on simplicity
i know that you want to provide simplicity on your product, please do not take an other way and do not build "a monster" (many features) of simplicity... less is more !

i hope it'll be possible to use basic or Default rules/layouts/templates for Composer to limit my bloggers

Loïc

Looks great, but my question is: Did all this stuff produce valid markup? Did you have things like SEO in mind?

I am afraid the composer will be too complex for the regular user and might scare away .

I agree with loic on this:

The current media manager is not that intuitive to a regular user. It might have all the bells and whistles but that adds too much complexity to a regular user who just wants to add an image.

This looks fantastic to me as long as it does not break our existing blog posts!

PS. The suggestion about all StackIdeas products sharing a Media manager seems really great to me!

Hey guys, thanks for all of the input and feedback. I do agree that giving people too many freedom tends to make it 'complicated'. We will keep this in mind.

@kenneth I'm afraid I can't give you an ETA. Alpha version is to be available soon.

I have to agree with what many have said. I think that the new composer is AMAZING, however I also would like to either have a much simpler functionality for users who fit in a certain group such as bloggers and have limited functionality so that all they have to do is add images, video, and text while conforming to a templating standard of some sort.

It seems as if you guys are definitely interested in making sure we have great customization features however it doesn't seem as if the templating options that many are requesting are a primary focus of EasyBlog 5. Neglecting this feature would make blogging way too time consuming and offer additional levels of detail that end users may not need or want.

I sincerely hope that you guys take the feedback requests seriously and add this option. Nonetheless, I look forward to this extensions progress. You guys have always offered phenomenal support.

Hi Bonitto,

Thank you for your input. I personally agree that a feature shouldn't be too "technical" or "boombastic" per se as it might not be fully utilized by normal users (such as me, actually). I'll forward this to the dev and will keep this in mind for any of our development.
