Amplify Your Joomla Site With EasySocial 1.3.21

Amplify Your Joomla Site With EasySocial 1.3.21

Each new release provides more improvement and stability, EasySocial 1.3.21 is no different. We read all of our users' request, from Voice portal to our ticket/email conversation, as our main goal is to build a Joomla's social networking component for the community. You are the ones who decide what are the features. :)

Performance enhancement and optimization is also a must; and with that being said; we have enhanced some of the settings in EasySocial 1.3.21, optimized some of the PHP/CSS, and added superlative features. Here are some of the features that awaits you :

Community's Access Restriction

This is the key option for those who integrates our component with EasySocial. Imagine running a website where the plan is to have normal members have access to only EasyDiscuss/EasyBlog while premium paying members have access to EasyDiscuss/EasyBlog and EasySocial. Previously this is something which is very tricky to achieve. However, after a few days toiling on the restriction codes, we have finally built this powerful feature in this release.
b2ap3_thumbnail_community_access.png

The setting can be found in Components > EasySocial > Profile Types, choose any Profile Types and set 'Allow Community Access' to 'No'. This will restrict the chosen Profile Type's access to Community (though they are still able to edit their profile). Not only that, their profile won't show up in EasySocial's search results.

I personally believe that this feature can and will open up new windows of opportunity for our users to develop a creative sites.

Enhanced System Notification Setting

We know that sometimes it's annoying when you've clicked on the notification and read all of the notification that you've received; yet the counter does not reset. This new release contains the fix for this annoying "bug"; the setting to automatically mark item as read can be found under Settings > Notifications > System Notifications. b2ap3_thumbnail_notification_read.png

Set it to 'Yes', and all items viewed in the notification will automatically be marked as read and the counter is reset. One annoyance, squashed like a helpless bug!

View Original Photos

Most of the sites that I knew actually resized their uploaded photos to cater to the bandwidth (and also to ensure that photos on their site loads up nicely). However, there are some of our users that needed the option to view the original photos (photo contest, anyone?). Didn't I tell you that we listen to our users' request? :)

The option to view original photo is finally available; site admin can turn on this option by logging in to the back end and navigate to Component > EasySocial > Setting > Photos.

b2ap3_thumbnail_view_original_photo_1.png

Once this is set to 'Yes', the option to view the original photo should be available in the front end.

b2ap3_thumbnail_view_original_photo_2.png

Those who wishes to run a photo contest social site should take advantage of this new feature, and do tell me your site's URL. I really love cool photos! :)

Customize Your Own Joomla Full Name Placeholder

On registration, the full name's placeholder always shows the default 'First Name' , 'Middle Name' , 'Last Name'. Some of our users requested for them to have the option to change these to their preferred placeholder. We've built the option to customize the placeholder via backend > Components > EasySocial > Profile Type. Customize your placeholder to these..

b2ap3_thumbnail_placeholder.png

... and it will shows up during the registration...

b2ap3_thumbnail_placeholder-reg.png

Definitely something for those who wishes to truly customize their site to suits their main theme.

Bug Fixes

We've also squashed bugs, notably the EasySocial's update button on the backend and blocked user account; which is now set to automatically be logged out once they are blocked. Another squashed bug is the Skype field element showing error on user profile page. You can view the full changelog here.

This update is crucial not only for the new features listed, but also for the various bug fixes aforementioned above. You can update your EasySocial by a click of a button from your own site's dashboard (backend > Components > EasySocial > Update), or you can download from your Stack Ideas' dashboard.

Special Offer To Expired License Holders

We know how you guys are itching to get hold of these new features and bug fixes, here's a 20% discount code to assist you with your renewal. The coupon code is :

EASYSOCIAL20

Renew your EasySocial license at a discounted price. Less price, more features!

That's about it. Do pen down any comments and suggestions in the comment section. :)

Hey Julia and Antonio, thank you for your input. We do listen to all the video requests; with that amount of requests, it's impossible for us to miss it! However, I apologize if the roadmap is not updated yet. There are numerous tasks for both EasyBlog 5 and EasySocial 1.4 that we have to reshuffle the whole task lists. But fret naught, I assure you that the development is in progress.

Guys have some faith ! Stackideas already proved that they are trustworthy and will amaze us on each new release.
Give them a little bit of your faith and let them do the magic.

Maybe they choose for GOOD reasons not to always disclose ALL the feature they are working on, not to disclose the development progress.

Competition is watching ! so i pretty much "feel them" and fully understand.

Yeah no one likes missing deadlines. But hitting deadlines at the cost of quality is not the way to go either. I have said it before and might even say it again, I want video functionality more than most in here… But I want it to be the best out there and thus will continue waiting patiently Faith +1

Hi Paul,

Yup, that sums our dilemma just about right. We can choose to ignore quality and just put some crappy code for the video and release it. However, we do not want to provide our users with low-quality product.

This dilemma is a never-ending problem for any companies, to be honest.

@Mist I think for you to say have some faith is out of bounds but it's not just you it's everyone else that says it too... I converted to ES as soon as they released the group functionality with the hopes based on the roadmap that the Videos functionality would be coming soon! Well if you've been around that long you know it was suppose to come out when 1.3 came out but was pushed back to 1.4. I shut down my site when I converted from JomSocial because I wanted as everyone else does the best possible product available and the type of site I have Videos are extremely critical. So I've been waiting over 10 months to launch my site showing FAITH and having PATIENCE!!!!! My subscriptions ran out on all my components and I STILL renewed them, so before you address someone about having faith, you and everyone else that wants to speak up for the Stacked Team should let them address their customers themselves. If I'm still around and haven't launched my site in almost a YEAR waiting on the Stacked Team to get certain functionalities out that was suppose to have been released, WHAT DO YOU CALL THAT????

Hi Antonio,

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I do remember you joining us a few months ago. I'm sorry for all the wait that you had to go through, I wish there's something that I can personally do to assist you.

Having to juggle two major releases at one time is very tricky; which is why we're facing the issue now. I understand your frustration; I'm a user myself and I will be angry if I had to wait just like how you're waiting now. We will do whatever it takes to get everything out as soon...

Thanks Ahmad I'm still around because I do have faith in you guys and love everything about all your components. As a man with multiple businesses I can understand what you guys are going through. EB5 is important but Videos are just as well, especially in today's day and age. Videos are so critical to the success of a lot of site to the point even Instagram had to incorporate at least 15 second videos. So in my option certain functions people should be able to perform on a social network site and sharing videos directly from their cpu or phone is one. Even though I prefer not to I just may have to run wit HWDmediashare until you guys get caught up to speed.

I really appreciate it that you are being understanding but at the same time we don't blame customers for being angry because this is our mistake and we have to make it up for you guys.

I can't believe that you treat your customers that way. I've been following some of your blogs and reading most of them, i'm disappointed with the team responses.

I am not a JomSocial fan either, for me they are dead. I have high hope with ES but the way you guys treat your customers are quiet disgusting.

The only reason why most users are frustrated is because of the promises! Why would you promise something if you can't deliver it?
For instance, you already showed EB 5 nice video in your blog, ofcourse everyone gets excited but we realized we needed to wait so long to get it.
If you guys have a kid, try showing him a yummy icecream in your hand but don;t give it - you will see the result.

If you can't deliver at least apologize and accept your mistake, not bashing or giving not so polite answers. A simple sorry can make a huge difference.
Apple.com will never said something like that to their customers even they break a promise, but apologizes instead and do better. Fighting back will not bring good to all of us, it will only make it worse.

Do not do the same mistake what JomSocial and other Joomla companies. If you want to succeed, treat your customers with respect and compassion.

P.S - I highly recommend you guys to read books about customer relation. I promise, it helps alot.

But it still beats the pants off the other guys ford focus.

So to say you feel let down or that they are unprofessional - get over yourself. They owe you nothing. Take your money and see what else there is. The customer is not always right. That's just American bollox for saying money is power, so do as i tell you.

If you were a customer, which i don't think you are, and you needed some tweaking to their component or there was a compatible issue with your template, it gets sorted usually that day, if not within hours. Serious commitment, and major customer care.

The only mistake they have made here is raising an expectation of a major breakthrough miracle, which is slowly evolving rather than divinely appearing. The rest is pure genius, and most of us applaud them for it.

Would you be kind enough to point to me any posts/comments/forum threads that shows an "unprofessional" and/or an "impolite" response from our team? We take our manners very seriously especially when talking to our users; up to a point where we even respect those who just come in to 'troll' or bash us.

I would like to seriously investigate this issue further; hence I am looking forward to your response. Let me know if you wish to discuss with me via a more private channel and I'll provide you with my email address.

I have no problem with Stacdideas support. I always get an answer within 12 hours. It's not even my concern here, its the ATTITUDE - like yours! fighting..fighting..

I don't care if it takes them forever to develop or not, just don;t make promises.
Why you guys are too aggressive?! I am only telling your the attitude towards your frustrated customers. Maybe you think I am paid from JOMSOCIAL??!! HAHA, - get over yourself. Why so insecure? feel threaten? I am not even using Jomsocial which is more crappy than ES plus Merav me me attitude. <vomit>

rather than fighting, why not look at the real problem and do better?

This attitude will never bring no good. Let see where stackideas in a year or two from now.

@Darren Knipe - with your replies, life must be tough for you. Your energy is quiet into fighting...fighting.. i am not even into fighting, but suggestions and addressing the problem.

I am so sorry to hear about your poor health disposition. Stomach issues such as vomiting and ulcers can often be a symptom of a bowel disfunction, such as being anally retentive. A dose of reality checking should clear that up for you.

To clarify some important points here:
Apart from @mark and @ahmad, no other comments here are those of Stackideas staff, but that of other customers, including myself. You will find that neither of the above 2 have said anything rude or disrespectful to any customer, and have tried to demonstrate that they are open to criticism, as shown by the fact that even as an anonymous guest, your posts do not get removed.

Secondly, and more importantly, I strongly resent the suggested slander that I may in any way be going bald! In fact for a man in his mid 40's, I have an incredible full head of hair. Old woman would always comment how jealous they were of it, and how much they would pay the hairdresser to give them such curls. Men stare nervously across dining tables, questioning whether such a phenomenon is even possible. Walking down the street children turn to their mothers and say 'mum, when I grow up I want to have hair like that man!'.

Don't get me wrong. It comes with responsibility. Grow it too long, and you see fear struck in the eyes of the lesser haired folk. Cut it too short, and it shows lack of respect for this god given blessing I have.

As Stackideas I would consider disabling this comment function on blog posts. It is however testament to their excellent component Komento, and like the support forum, which is their EasyDiscuss component, functions beautifully.

A user has already mentioned HWDMediaShare as a powerful media addition if you require video. It is really good, regularly updated, and works well with ES.

An experienced user of Joomla will appreciate that nothing in the Open Source community will be perfect. It is an organic evolving project. Mark and his team, as well as developing their own products, contribute to the overall code checking and development of the Joomla project itself. This means that all their knowledge and discoveries are adding to the overall benefit of us all here.

The fact that the frontiers of coding are being pushed, means vulnerabilities, and new possibilities continually present unknown challenges. If you had any real appreciation of that fact, you would understand where they are coming from.

Jomsocial has always just released stuff without proper testing or regard for consequence. If your site security and best interest of your own users is not that important, then this is fine.

However, Stackideas is looking at it differently. Also, if ES was not being developed you can guarantee that Merav Knafo who bought Jomsocial would be doubling the price to speed up the return on her investment, as it is clear her motivation is money driven.

Jomsocial has shown on numerous times through the Stackideas forums to try and slander and discredit them with hugely inaccurate statements. This is both a disgusting tactic and draws the team into unnecessary debate. I am finally getting to the point of pissed off, and so find myself adding my personal worthless view to the matter.

Crack on team. Looking forward to better stuff

Hey guys,

I think this bashing is taking us no where but please do allow me to clear the air:

1. It has always been our intention to keep everything transparent. Hence, we never and will never remove any comments if it is legitimate and true. However, what really saddens me is that if you are going to slander me in public, please do it with proper facts and not based on your own judgement or what you heard.

2. The delay of EasySocial 1.4 was a fact and we admit that it's our fault. We did apologize for this delay almost every posts on the forums and tickets we have received. We are even transparent that we even did extended our response by letting everyone know what is going on We never tried and never will hide anything from our customers.

3. The delay of EasySocial 1.4 is entirely my fault and it's because of incorrect judgement on the scope of EasyBlog 5.0. Our intention of building EasyBlog 5.0 was never to refactor the entire package but as we were writing the codes, we realize that the codes on EasyBlog 3.9 was a little old and we needed to update it. I also did apologize for this delay and explained this very clearly on our forums.

4. Because this is entirely our mistake, a relief plan will be made available for our delay and mistakes. I assure you that me and Justin is working on a plan that would correct this entire situation.

5. We never did promise anything about time frames. I am pretty sure about this because I have clearly instructed this to everyone in the team and our customers that there will be a delay because we need to make way for EasyBlog 5.0.

6. I agree that hiring more people would solve issues. But it would only solve this on a long run not on a short term basis. Adding more employees at this current situation will only cause more delays because a lot of time is needed to train these guys up. Believe me, been there done that and suffered.

With the above being said, I sincerely and humbly apologize for the delay of EasySocial 1.4 and we are doing the best we can to chase back the time we have lost while we were working on EasyBlog 5.0

If you are dissatisfied with my answers above, I am open for feedback as always (I am sure most of you are aware of this). Feel free to post them here or write to me personally or post it on the forums or you could even post this on our helpdesk.

P/S: I love constructive criticisms but what I hate the most is slandering one another. I hope that we can build a much healthier ecosystem. Slandering each other will only take us no where.

That's all folks, it's close to 4.30 am and I still have to work on EasyBlog 5.0.

HI to all
Everybody here are, too curious about video feature. But surprisingly nobody raise hands for feature that is essential for any community site : The CHAT Function!!
Easysocial still depend on third party add on like cometchat that show all members in chat bar which is quite annoying

WHY STACKIDEADS TEAM STILL NOT INCLUDE CHAT FEATURE?

Hello Grahim,

Thank you for your feedback and I appreciate it very much. I must admit that both videos and chat are important but there are just so much that we can do and we have to prioritize on what is more beneficiary for our customers. If chat isn't added on 1.4, it will most likely be just a matter of time before it gets added.

Hi Julia,

Thank you for your response. Actually, sharing video links and embed them is already built inside EasySocial. We're aiming on developing the option to upload video from your computer and store it in your server.

Thanks Mark for bringing this thread back on track.

Many folk want many things from ES. Here is food for thought tho:

1. The more you ask of ES the less time can be dedicated to the other Stackideas products. Yes they can employ more coders, but then instead of an intimate happy family, they will need to turn more into a fast roller coaster train.

2. The brilliant approach made in the database structuring of ES is that it can easily talk to other components, here the App market.

This means other developers can specialise in a function that has potential to bridge with all you want Joomla to do. If you do too many functions that others are focussed on, you will end up harming their project, lose the diversity of the Joomla market, and worse still put all your eggs in one basket.

Just save money? Instead, support those developers out there to work with ES and make a much stronger community.

Hi Anastasia,

Thank you for commenting! I saw that you are currently holding an EasySocial Basic license, a license which we no longer offer. Would you be kind enough to write to our marketing team via our CRM so that we can assist you in using the coupon code mentioned in the blog post?

Thanks! I wrote.

I like Stackideas too. I use EasySocial from the first version, but because it was the first it had a lot of flaws. and apparently it's a bit tempered my enthusiasm from the work of the team. but the best product I have not yet found. I hope we will grow and develop together.

I installed EasySocial less than two months after it's initial release once I had enough money to afford it. Before that point I tested it on the demo site and gave feedback. I installed EasySocial less than two months after it's initial release once I had enough money to afford it. Before that point I tested it on the demo site and gave feedback. So I know of the many additions being needed. I did many hours per week testing things/thinking and working with the Stacked team to use the best practices. Yes it took a lot of effort on my part, but boy was it very exciting and encouraging to see Stackideas running so far with thoughtful requests. I had been looking for years for a staff like this. I understand that starting out took endurance and facing many issues. I knew even back then that it would pay off in a really big way. I'm not talking about money, I'm wanting to create some of the best outdoor resources ever created for free. With all the help from the StackIdeas I am more than confident about this.

I understand that it took a lot of patience to get most of the bugs sorted out back then. As of right now ES 1.3.22 is pretty stable in terms of things working as they should through out the entire component (lost count of how many times I've tested). ES was certainly quite functional before, but with new additions came new issues. The Stacked team however always provided confidence that those issues would get resolved, often with a speedy fix. I have a lot of faith with upgrading EasySocial even with all the complexities that go on behind the scenes. The future of EasySocial is looking very bright and I don't doubt for a second that the next major release will have something for everyone (including those who don't care about videos).

Just want to comment that I am extremely satisfied with Stackideas and their amazing work with creating world class community software. If people cannot run their sites without fully native video software, than they should have waited until it was added. As it stands right now, EasySocial has all the basic needs (plus a lot more) my site needs for creating a great site with full activity streaming. If people cannot run their sites without fully native video software, than they should have waited until it was added. As it stands right now, EasySocial has all the basic needs (plus a lot more) my site needs for creating a great site with full activity streaming. The Stacked team has been transparent and honest about their posts as well as being rock solid with support and being very nice. Even the rare instances were I am a little disappointed about something I specifically wanted not existing, the Stacked team finds a way to bring another goodie into the software that makes me quite pleased and excited for a while.

This is coming from a guy who has tested/looked at thousands of Joomla extensions over many years checking the JED pretty much everyday. To those who understand how software development goes, you will very much appreciate the wonders these guys do even with the slower development going on due to EB5. Patience goes a long ways here. When the team is less busy, amazing things can happen over night.

@Stackideas: Keep rocking on. You guys are our Joomla heroes!

Hey Josh,

Thank you so much for your comment and insight. You don't know how much this means to me and the rest of the team. We do admit that there are hiccups here and there (with the current one being the most major hiccups we've ever made/faced), but we're trying our very best to fix this and still provide the best to our users.

To be honest, there are times when we were down when faced with multiple negative comments. The worst part is that we do not blame them, they have the right to say as such, and thus we point the finger to ourselves. It is the comment such as yours now, that truly lift us and motivates us to push ourselves past the barrier.

Josh, I personally thank you for your comment. If you're ever in Malaysia, let me know and I'll buy you a drink.

This is a great informative post, and I am not sure if it is proper to ask here or if it has been answered already. My apologies then.
My small query : Will ES 1.4 and the new Easyblog talk to each other ? That is : one can comment and Like from Activity stream (blog title and/or blog excerpt in the stream) to the main blog post, and again if one wishes one can comment and Like in the main blog post directly and it will show up in the stream?

Since these projects are being given time to mature, I think this will be great to have this (just like Notes) in the new versions straightway instead of waiting for more future versions. If this is already there, then great!

Will Easyblog support individual bloggers to have their "own" blogs with own cover/header photos and own themes just like Wordpress Multisite? I do not know if its already there, but if its surely many WP users would be interested in ES+Easyblog combo. Thanks.

Hey Raani!

Apologize for my late response. Well, both projects are still on-going so I can't reveal much. However, we have plans on a richer integration between both EasyBlog 5 and EasySocial 1.4... so stay tuned!
