Truncate Comments by word

Is there a way to have Comments truncated by words including ellipses instead of characters on the front page? It doesn't look very nice truncating in the middle of a word. See example here: http://www.margeauxplace.org/margeaux-place/blog.html

Or have I missed a setting someplace.
