I have been using ED since version 1 and this still gets me at times.

When trying to post a discussion without filling in the title, the visual ques with the red border around the title field is not a good enough method to get the Person who is posting their discussion to understand that the Title is not filled in.

SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVING: Perhaps a sound, or beep will be a good addition. Also, when focus is applied in the Title field the default title text should disappear. At present it does not disappear. Proper UI design suggests that when applying focus on a UI field should make it obvious what action is required by the user.

I hope members add further suggestions to this discussion. :)

I have updated my site's language overrides for EasyDiscuss 4 to make it more obvious what is required from the Member posting a New Discussion.

Language Constant *
COM_EASYDISCUSS_POST_TITLE_EXAMPLE - Enter a descriptive discussion title: To submit your discussion, the title must not be empty.

Language Constant *
COM_EASYDISCUSS_COMPOSER_PLACEHOLDER_CREATING
Please keep your content as simple or concise as possible. A complex description will only slow down your discussion feedback.

SUGGESTIONS by reviewing Apple's OS X Human Interface Guidelines

To make improvements I suggest reviewing the OS X Human Interface Guidelines from Apple for ways to improve this so users don't get frustrated as to why they can't post a discussion.

Feedback and Assistance
Keep Users Informed of Progress

Users want an app that acts upon their commands and tells them how long the process will take. If your app doesn’t do a good job of giving feedback to users, they may think that your app is unresponsive or difficult to use.

Instantly acknowledge the user’s commands and input. Users expect to receive some type of feedback every time they interact with your app. In OS X, buttons respond visually when users click them, and the pointer changes appropriately as users move it over different controls and areas.

Similarly, if a command can’t be carried out, users want to know why it can’t and what they can do instead. The quicker you provide feedback for the user’s interactions, the more responsive your app appears. To learn more about the principle of feedback, see Feedback and Communication.

Thank you for considering these suggests to improve usability of ED 4.
