Separator menu item rendering as a link

I'm trying to create a separator menu item type for a menu to be included in the ES dropdown menu module(the "select menu type" option) but the module renders the separator as a link to the home page instead of just text. I imagine I can do some css to remove the a/link attribute so it just does show as a separator but am curious if this is a known issue, something that's unique, or no ones reported it.
