mod_recentdiscussions Module Outputs Extraneous XML/CSS Text

A recurring problem I can't seem to solve is in the use and representation of the "Recent Discussions" module. Appearing below the last discussion rendered is some non-sense HTML/CSS text. I can't seem to find out why.
Please look at the attached image for a screen shot, it is dark gray on black text so it is hard to see. Why does this appear and most important, how do I get rid of it?
