Media manager selection screen blank, but selection works

Since updating to EasyBlog 5 (now 5.0.23) in Joomla! 3.4.3, when trying to insert an image into a blog written in EasyBlog 3 or into a new blog in 5, or when inserting a cover image, I can navigate to select the shared images folder, but the screen shows up blank, even after clicking at the bottom where it shows "Show all xx items". But hovering over the page indicates that there are (invisible) images there, and if I click somewhere, an image is selected with the file name appearing in the editor pane on the right but the tiny thumbnail shows a broken link. The main screen still shows no image. If I select an image size the image appears full size, though the tiny thumbnail link still seems broken.
Please advise how this can be fixed !
