Has anybody created an https site with EasySocial and if so what are the pros and cons?

Since many people will use our web site and ask personal private medical questions, even though we ask them not to, I am thinking that it might make the most sense for us to create an HTTPS site instead of HTTP. But, I am hoping some people might speak about the potential benefits and potential draw backs. The benefit I am most interested in is knowing that any personal messages sent through EasySocial will be encrypted. the downside I worry about is that the site might be slowed down by the encryption?

What else should I be thinking about?

My site actually uses EasySocial, EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog as well as YooRecipes. So, my guess is that I would be making the entire site https.
