Getting my head around streams

I am trying to get my head around the Share options in ES!
Maybe someone can help me understand this ;-)

Case 1 : log in as an admin

I go to the Community page. I see the following:

a) All the stuff in the stream that I shared. (It is all from me, myself and I anyway)
b) Other general Community news such as Blah has a new profile photo.
c) The Blog posts. (Had some problems with this but I think it is working again)

I share. See what I shared when logged in and out!


Case 2 : log in as a normal user

I go to the Community page. I see the following:

a) All the stuff that I have done as a test users.

(Which basically consists of 2 things the fact that I registered and the badge that I got for registering)

Frankly I am making this up as I go along. But surely normally when I log into a community I see my own stuff and the stuff from other people in a stream on a page. e.g. on the community page. In the back end I look in the settings for Users and Streams but do not see any setting that influence this. Could some one please advise what I am missing.
