Datetime Custom Field -- disable the Month and Day fields?

I have a COPPA related age verification requirement in which the new member must provide their year of birth. We do not request, nor do we want (for security reasons) their month and day of birth. Can the Datetime Custom Field be modified to eliminate the month and day select dropdown boxes?

I do realize that, if necessary, I can make a custom dropdown select box and add the years
