Can users have two profile types at once or something similar to this

Can I make it so user at registation can choose one profile type, then buy a membership but when they want to get the benefits of another profile type they buy another subscription that allows them to become another profile type but keep both. in other words can my users join multiple profile types. I'm making a site where there needs to be several profile types so i can make the most money when they decide they want to be another profile type later on. How can I do this
