Can not edit Home menu - user changed error

I attempted to update the "home" menu today. When I selected the menu, I received this error message:

"Error

Check-out failed with the following error: The user checking out does not match the user who checked out the item.
You are not permitted to use that link to directly access that page (#2).

I created the menu us administrator and administrator is reflected as the owner.

I've made no changes to the system that would effect my status as administrator.

I was able to edit the page a week ago.
