404 Error when I try to login to reply to a post

Category permissions:
Public/ Guest can post
Moderator must approve the post
SuperUser only can reply

Situation:
1. I make a test posting, which must be moderated
2. As SuperUser, I approve the posting in the backend
3. Posting then appears
4. As SuperUser, I want to post reply. I enter the login info and click the login button
5. I receive a 404 error -- Post not available. When I return to the Discussions home page, it displays "There are no discussions created here", even though the "New" and "Unanswered" tab indicate discussions present.

Please note that when I have Reply set to public, it works.

I am having a similar problem with Password Protection. I will discuss that separately after I resolve this problem.
