EasySocial 1.4 Beta Available Now

EasySocial 1.4 Beta Available Now

It's here, guys! EasySocial 1.4 is ready to be beta tested by you. We know that it took us some time, but now that we've managed to get back on our feet after EasyBlog 5, we're presenting the next version of EasySocial 1.4. Here are some of the features that you should expect from the beta:

Videos

This is probably one of the most anticipated feature of EasySocial 1.4 and we have added videos into this release. The videos support is not only available for users, it is also available for both Groups and Events as well :)

While most other social networks processes videos on the back end or from the cronjob, EasySocial 1.4 allows you to encode videos on the fly. In other words, when you upload your video the conversion happens immediately with a nice progress bar.

Elegant Theme

With EasySocial 1.4, we have also cooked up a brand spanking new theme called Elegant. In lieu with the other "wireframe" themes with the rest of our extensions, we have decided to also create a theme in EasySocial that has a more unifying look. The new intuitive toolbar design in the elegant theme is also something that you guys should get your hands on.

Improved Backend

This is one of the area that we have been challenged from time to time because every time we release a new version for our products, the back end looks different from one component compared to another. We have decided to unify the layout and design of the back end to look identical to the rest of our products. Apart from just the design changes, we have also improved the usability of the back end.

Polls

As requested, we have also added polling into EasySocial which allows your community users to create polls on the site :) Polls in EasySocial 1.4 allows creating polls with multiple votes too!

Custom Fields

In this release, we have also added a new custom field called Auto Completion. This custom field allows you to pre-set a list of suggested keywords in the field allowing users to pre-select these keywords.

Comments

With EasySocial 1.4, you can now also attach files in your comments. It also now comes with various emojis aka emoticons, which allows users to express various emotions.

Performance Optimization

Apart from the features mentioned above, the team also made huge changes under the hood. Your EasySocial site will be much faster than the previous versions as we've optimized the codes to cater to videos. Aside from optimizing our codes, we've also squashed various minor bugs.

Other Improvements

Font Awesome seems to be one of the most common font icon packs available out there and EasySocial 1.4 now utilizes Font Awesome throughout the extension.

Still a beta version...

EasySocial 1.4 is still a beta version; we hope that our beta testers are able to assist us to identify bugs especially those which are related to the new features. We highly encourage users to not install the beta release on a live site. All bug reports should be reported in the respective issue tracker page

The beta release is only available to user's with a valid subscription. User's without an active license will need to renew your subscription first in order to get your hands on EasySocial 1.4.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the update! I'm not able to download the beta, even though I have an active ES Subscription. My only options are to renew or purchase.

  1. Mark

Hey Justin,

Hm, this is odd but can you send us your login credentials at https://crm.stackideas.com/index.php so that I can test this out?

  1. Justin    Mark

Hi Mark,

I've create a new ticket (#44544) that includes my login information.

  1. sofian    Mark

hi
thank you for this great version .

but you (one of your teame) said before that you will improve the message system in version 1.4 !!!

  1. Mark    sofian

Yes, we were initially trying to revamp the conversation on 1.4 but decided to shift this to a later milestone instead.

  1. sofian    Mark

the conversation is more important from videos and custom fields bleave me .
it is the Corner stone of the site and very important .
it is the link between users .

waiting ....... :(

  1. Josh Lewis    sofian

The conversations revamp is planned for ES 2.0 as seen in the roadmap. While I agree that conversations are more important than videos, ES currently has a conversation system that works. That being said, videos have been widely requested by a very large number of users. Of course we all will be excited to see the conversation system get a new face lift, it will come in it's time. :)

  1. Gary Bashor    sofian

Agreed on this. Having the ability to easily send messages to anyone on the site is critical. An intuitive, maybe dropdown, "picker" would really make it pop!

  1. Mark    Tamer

Please try this again :)

  1. Adam O.

Fantastic news!! Can't wait for stable release! :-)

When stable will available?

  1. Mark    Adam O.

I really don't have an answer for you right now to be honest. It all depends on how quick beta testers are reporting these issues :)

  1. Adam O.

and I hope, that ES 1.4 is still available on Joomla 2.5 :-)

  1. Mark    Adam O.

Yep, it will still work on Joomla 2.5 for sure :)

  1. Vitaliusdfox

Same here: "Sorry, but you need a valid subscription in order to access the beta releases. "
But my subscription expires on: 5th February, 2016

  1. Mark    Vitaliusdfox

If you could be kind enough to send us your access to https://crm.stackideas.com/index.php , I will take a look into this.

What is the status for Dynamic Fields?

  1. Adam O.    James

great question - it is one of the best feature request in ES :)

so Mark, what is the status?

  1. Mark    James

Dynamic fields are moved to 1.5 or 2.0 (We might directly jump to 2.0) as we are going to revamp the way custom fields behave in the next major release :)

  1. Adam O.    Mark

great news :)
so... when the next release? ;)

  1. James    Mark

With that being said do you have a timeline or projected date for 1.5/2.0? I was initially under the impression that this would be in 1.3, then 1.4... Just want to make sure that the steps I take now to resolve the issue are the right steps.

  1. Mark    James

Initially, it was our intention to revamp the custom fields on 1.4, but user's were too agitated for videos, hence we decided to move it to the next milestone :)

I don't have an ETA but right now, and forward, we will be sticking to a 3 month release timeframe for each major milestone :)

  1. Mark

Hey guys,

The access issue has been fixed and you guys should be able to access the downloads now :)

Thanks Justin and Vitaliusdfox!

  1. Justin    Mark

Thanks Mark.

  1. Mark    Justin

No problem :)

Great team, great job, Great release !
thanks for all those features.
waiting for stable release !

i have one question, for custom field autocomplettion, as mentionned the admin must define choice, i think that it will be great if you can make it as database, any time a user add a new record it stored for next users !

  1. Adam O.    HMED

I absolutely agree with jan!

This filed has sense when user can add own record if his value is not found:

- user starts writing eg. Par (looks for Paris)

- if Paris was previously added by admin or other user -> it loads this record

- if not, user filled up this field by 'Paris' and after save, next time he (or other user) when will start writing eg. first three letters 'Par' can load this value and after hit -> enter - can "confirm" auto complete :)

Mark, please think about this and...

Eileen, I had create a Voices Page here: http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/865 and there is a topic in the forums here: http://stackideas.com/forums/dynamic-fields-and-dynamic-field-groups I would recommend posting your comments/thoughts in both of these.

Since you guys did some work on EasySocial comments adding some features to it, some questions come into my mind

1. Are EasySocial comments a complete replacement for Komento for one that wants a simple straightforward commenting system without the bells and whistles of Komento ?
2. Are EasySocial comments used in Joomla articles SEO friendly and crawlable by search engines ?

Thanks !!!!

Technically one can do this variation. My site needs two comment systems due to wanting a "travel log", so using ES comments with another comment system is perfect for my needs. :)

The problem of not using Komento comes in when you want more commenting features or you need comments on non Joomla articles/Stackideas extensions. Komento very much still has its place for being useful to some even with EasySocial. With that being said, I do really hope that the ES content plugin that has a comment form uses the new comment form practices (smilies and attachments).

Nope, it's not entirely a replacement but it's a different comment solution altogether.

2. Are EasySocial comments used in Joomla articles SEO friendly and crawlable by search engines ?

Since the comments are actually plain list items, I don't think there is any issues with SEO at all :)

  1. James    Mark

I feel EasySocial comments would be best if the Facebook Comment Model was followed.

Hi Mark,

Needed some clarifications, when you said "Your EasySocial site will be much faster than the previous versions as we've optimized the codes to cater to videos."

Is the optimization only for Videos feature, or there are other optimisations to existing JS/CSS/SQL queries also done? (Apart from Fontawesome, which is great :))

Can you please educate us on the difference or performance gains achieved between ES 1.3 & 1.4. (Minus the videos)

Also is the beta demo on the demo site?

Most optimization are done on the PHP / SQL part. The profile and dashboard will have speed improvements as compared to the previous version.

We did not perform major changes on the javascript architecture just yet because this will actually have a major impact to 3rd party apps / modules :(

We are scheduling on optimizing the javascript for the next major release :)

  1. Josh Lewis    Mark

Thanks for the summary. I'm inclined to agree with the optimization ordering strategy you guys used. I am eager for faster JS scripts, however less messes to clean up is pretty much always the better way to go.

  1. Mark    Josh Lewis

Thanks for understanding Josh :) Don't worry, we already have plans for the JS cleanup in the next major milestone!

  1. Christian Nielsen

Hi Mark and the team at Stackideas, just wonder if there ever will be a function that let the users create "pages" like in Facebook? I know this feature has been asked for, but just want to know if i should keep waiting for this feature or moving on :) Love Easysocial and would be great if "pages" would be a part of it. Soooooon ;)

  1. Mark    Christian Nielsen

Hey Christian,

Yep, we will be adding the Pages functionality in the next major release of EasySocial :)

  1. chris

hey :p how to remove the "powerde by" in 1.4 ???

pages functionality ??? great !!!

  1. Josh Lewis    chris

You need to upgrade to the Professional plan if you want the powered by removed. ;) As of right now it's $10 more. The Stacked team will not provide a hack to have it removed based on their terms of service without a professional license or higher. Also you get more themes in the pro version which is a great deal for $10 more. :)

  1. Mark    chris

In beta releases, the powered by is not removed by the system automatically. It will however be updated when you install the correct version (after the stable release)

  1. chris

:( i have a professional plan ... but ok it is a beta and there are many many many bugs. but it looks great ;)

Comment was last edited about 3 years ago by chris chris
  1. Josh Lewis    chris

I believe it's standard practice for the beta versions to have a powered by link. So theoretically it will be removed in the stable version.

  1. chris    Josh Lewis

we will have to wait. 1.3 to 1.4 is managed very good jump. particularly as regards the performenz. and as soon as all errors have been corrected, it will be a great componente. and with pages functionality nobody needs facebook :D

  1. Mark    chris

Hey Chris,

This is only the first beta release and it definitely contain a lot more bugs because we only tested this internally. As soon as we progress, there will be less bugs :)

  1. James

V1.4 looks like a very promising update. I will try and get testing shortly. Pages functionality would be very powerful.

Am I the only person receiving the same notifications about updates to these comments 2 and 3 times by email? Its quite annoying.

  1. Josh Lewis    James

I'm getting notifications too (28 within the last 13 hours). My vision of how it should work is you getting an email upon someone replying to your comment. We do have the right to unsubscribe though. ;)

  1. Justin    Josh Lewis

You can unsubscribe at the start of the comments section (right corner, by the sort links)...

  1. James    Justin

Don't want to unsubscribe from the topic, the problem is the same notification email is being sent and received 2-3 times for every new comment here.

  1. Josh Lewis    James

I'm not having that issue. :p You should privately contact the Stacked team with the email you are receiving them on. I'm guessing that it's an issue with the email provider vs Komento. If it's a public email service, it can be tested to see if its a fault with the email service provider. Take Yahoo for example, a client of mine was not receiving emails because Yahoo is strict with how it authenticates emails as being valid. All the emails were indeed valid, but wanted them sent through them...

There's a known issue on our site where Komento is spawning duplicate emails :( It's an older version of Komento and we'll be updating it as soon as 1.4.0 is out.

  1. Al

Could you put back Roadmap in the Menu-Support section and rearrange the proper features with next major releases pls :D thankss

  1. Josh Lewis    Al

Agreed with making the roadmap apart of the support menu. :) As for the features for the next release, I'm sure that will still need to be debated. Perhaps after 1.4 stable.

  1. Mark    Al

Noted, thanks for the heads up on this. We're focusing on pushing out 1.4.0 out first :) That's our main priority right now.

Hey, Mark - I installed the beta on a test site and really have not found any functional bugs. I really like the new "elegant" theme, and decided to hack it into my production site. :) living dangerously, but it seems to work pretty well. Couple of minor things seem awry but am gonna live with it :)

One suggestion - make modifying the themes (colors, font sizes, etc) more user friendly, and it will be way cooler. Not everyone wants to look like Facebook!

Hey Mark, for this new release can you guys modify the EasySocial Comments - Content plugin (the ones that load ES comments into joomla article) ?

Currently the content plugin loads the ES Comments area right after the article text with no way to change it.

If possible can you load it in an event trigger position for example where this code is placed within the view template

Maybe it's just a small hack and it will be great to make it into the new stable release. This way we can load the ES Comments wherever we want in the view template for articles.

Thanks !

A huge thumbs up to this idea! :D Some day I want to be able to place comments into a tab, so adding this flexibility would be really appreciated. :)

  1. Mark    Mist

Hm, wonderful idea and I don't think it's too difficult to do this! Can you start a new thread at http://stackideas.com/issues/easysocial and I will link this to a new issue on our internal issue tracker?

Done. Thank you Mark for your never ending kindness to please your users !

You are most welcome :)

  1. Josh Lewis    Mist

Hey Mist, how would we go about implementing this once its added? A template override of the ES plugin? I'm not quite sure how you would go about preventing the original placement of code from loading. I know, I really need to brush up on my PHP. ;) Unfortunately I'm about to undergo another surgery in two days which means less time for learning. :( The good news is that I should be able to use my arm again in a few weeks (but mostly in a sling for 6-8 weeks). :)

  1. Mist    Josh Lewis

Oh, get well man ! All my best wishes for your surgery !

You need to create a template override for the original article view like this

1. Create an override folder structure in your template location, like this:
/templates/your_template/html/com_content/article

2. Copy this file: /components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php ... into your template override folder above
3. Modify for your needs the template override file:
/templates/your_template/html/com_content/article/default...

If the SI Team will modify the plugin accordingly, your comments will be loaded in this event trigger position (where this code is placed within the view file (default.php)}

<?php echo $this->item->event->afterDisplayContent; ?>

or they might use a different event handler and the code will change ... but roughly this is the way you can move the comments zone around after they modify the content plugin.

Thanks Mist for the best wishes, I'm actually excited to get the 8 screws out now that its been a year.

So what I would probably want to do then is remove the output via an override. Then use N3t Template, which allows you to generate auto templates for Joomla categories:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/n3ttemplate

So once the override removes the rendering of comments, I would load them back in with something like this?

As mentioned, the code used depends on the method used by SI. The final result might be something like:

<div class="tab-group">
<div class="tab><h3>Comments</h3><br>
<?php echo $this->item->event->afterDisplayContent; ?></div>
<div class="tab><h3>Ascent Log</h3><br>
{comments}</div>
</div>

This allows me to show content in tabs which would be very nice for organized page navigation. The {comments} tag is a tag I convinced a separate developer to make the comments portable. :) I will need two comment systems for my site needs. ;)

question, does one update OVER 1.3, or do an UNINSTALL of 1.3 THEN install 1.4?

  1. Josh Lewis    TMW

You can install 1.4 with 1.3 installed. The data from 1.3 on the frontend is completely left alone. :) I am however thinking that a few backend settings from the upgrade did get overwritten such as the Stackideas key code. Do not install on a production site until the stable version is released.

The upgrade to ES 1.4 is totally awesome, I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing so far! :D

Be patient, progress is being rapidly made. In the RC stage things are relatively stable with minor issues, however you do not get official support if something goes wrong. What this means is that the Stacked team will do what they can to address it as time permits rather than making it a top priority. In addition to this you might get stuck having to wait for another beta release to get the bug fix.

The Backend of EasySocial 1.3 is good looking than any of your extensions. I don't know the reason to change it and make it looks like EasyBlog backend.

  1. Mark    Esmond GH

The new revamped back end interface is actually much more lightweight and it has the simplicity in it. On top of that, we need to standardize the entire look and feel across all our extensions and we felt that the design for EasyBlog back end is more modern compared to the older EasySocial back end :)

  1. Josh Lewis    Mark

I actually like the template backend update to ES 1.4. :) The ES 1.3 backend was pretty sleek, but did have areas where more simplicity could be used. ES 1.4 has filled this gap. The only minor detail is that I still wonder if a green option toggle is better than a blue toggle (this is coming from someone who has blue as their favorite color). It doesn't help my own personal bias that green is my second favorite color. ;) Having it blue however does better match the theme of ES's colors.

First I thought it was the JF Connecto theme that I was using but changing the theme to the Wirefram or Frosty also results in the same. :( Is this a known issue? If so has it been fixed in 1.4? No doubt this a great product, probably the best out there but speed is an issue for me especially the Like buttons response time.

My license has expired and don't intend to renew it until the stable verion of 1.4 is released so to give it a try.

ES 1.4 is getting close to done. :) I'm guessing a stable version will come out either mid way this coming week or the following week if more issues come up. The Stacked team has cleaned up a lot of issues, RC2 is looking pretty crisp with a few details to work out. ;)

Thank you Josh for the info. I'm only concerned with the speed, particularly the Like button.. That's the easiest and the most important thing that people do on a social networking site. My members have to struggle to just Like a photo or a status which is so very frustrating. And while attempting to press the Like button several times sometimes they press on the photo itself by accident and the photo pop ups which also takes time and when they close the photo, they are taken to the...

In facebook, we are taken to where we left

The minimum width would be around 700 px depending on how you want it to look like :)

I am highly interested in ES 1.4 FINAL version.
However, it is what I see in the Demo that comments are NOT in sync.
You make a comment in Blog post - it does not appear in the stream/activity
Same about Notes too. This is very critical as other such scripts like WP, Elgg etc or FB do not suffer this problem.
Going to a specific blog post from Easysocial also throws you out-of-theme - all the separate products need very very urgently (before the final release) to have unified responsive...

Going to a specific blog post from Easysocial also throws you out-of-theme - all the separate products need very very urgently (before the final release) to have unified responsive theme and everything in sync. namely, you comment in one place (eg blog or note) it should show up in stream, and vice versa. A Demo doing/showing this can help us to stick to our decision to purchase ES. Thanks.

Hey Ria,

The demo that you see on our demo site is on version 1.3 and not version 1.4. Currently the comments are not sync between the blog post and the stream and there are several reasons to that. We'll see what we can do in the future for this integrations :)

Hi Mark
Can the demo site be updated ? If you need 1.3 as demo, a 1.4 beta demo may be kept side by side (several scripts do that). Are comments-in-sync of utmost priority as users of the paid version will expect this minimum "sanity"/"logic".
W.r.t "in the future" any expected date/time? Really this is a good script and needs to take care of these.
BTW, is Joomla+ES php7 compatible? (Wordpress, Drupal are). Thanks a lot.

EasySocial 1.4 is not released yet so we will not update our demo site yet as it would be misleading for future customers :)

As for the comments synchronization, this is something that we are looking at in the future :)

Joomla and EasySocial should work fine out of the box with PHP7 and I don't see any issues supporting PHP 7 at all.

Do you have an ETA for ACL of apps?

I would love to use EasySocial on my site, but this feature is essential for me!

  1. Mark

Not really sure what you mean by ACL of apps but do you mean default apps for profile types? We have just released EasySocial 1.4 :)

EasySocial 1.4 is already released :) You can go ahead and purchase it.
