Looking wonderful! As commented on the facebook page link you posted today, my dashboard here on the site is broken, so I cannot see which EasyBlog subscription to upgrade hehe. I am assuming that you guys are actively working on the dashboard?

I'm not a fan of the toolbar that shows in the frontend (should only be availble for content creator and admin) so hopefully with the improvements made in the new version, it is no longer visible to visitors. One less toolbar to deal with the better.

It has always been configurable in the settings and the acl You can choose to configure the toolbar to appear to specific user groups or completely get rid of it just by a flick of a button

  1.    Cralen

Hi Cralen,

Imo, Wordpress is purely for beginning blogers whereas EasyBlog enables folks with already existing Joomla site to add a blog to their e-commerce shop, or a forum or something else.

Mind you, having said that, there is no reason not to build up your blog on Joomla + EasyBlog. Obvious advantage of this route is brilliant support from Stackideas whereas with support on Wordpress you are mostly left on you own.

Regards,

Alex

Hoping the PUBLISH option can allow, at the discretion of the publisher, repeat social auto-posting. I think with EB currently you can auto-post just the once... but if you come back and edit the blog you can't send another shout out to social media... hoping that'll be different in N5XT

Andy, this is unfortunately not something that we can bypass because if you try to post a message that is repeated, both Facebook and Twitter will not allow that to happen

Oh I didn't realise that. Do you know what kind of 'validation' they use to check it's the same content? I have authors that come back to make updates to 'permanent' blog posts over and over, adding new info all the time. Is it the subject title that FB and Twitter check against and / or the date maybe? Just wondering if there's any way to genuinely say "Hey Facebook - This IS new content and I do want to post it!"

Can't keep from asking

1) Blocks

Are these extensible (can we add "Block Types")? How much are Blocks like a layout tool vs like a CCK?

Just for one example, if I had a site focused on selling ovens I might have a community where people could blog all about ovens, including their favorite recipes. I might like to have a version of the "Tabs" block I'd call "Recipe" with 3 tabs labelled "prep", "ingredients", and "nutrition", maybe even provide some "Rich Snippets" so Google understands...

I might like to have a version of the "Tabs" block I'd call "Recipe" with 3 tabs labelled "prep", "ingredients", and "nutrition", maybe even provide some "Rich Snippets" so Google understands the content of these blogs really well. If I could extend EasyBlog with these Blocks, it would allow me to create more value in my community site. All the bloggers would be able better organize their posts and make it easier to write while helping to ensure all the bloggers provided a consistent look-n-feel, benefit searching inside Joomla and also improving SEO as well.

2) Templates

Are these theme files or are they more like a WordPress page template? That would be great to be able to create templates supporting the blog creation of our users. Nice way to add more value to the community, for charity or profit. A legal site owner can create "contract templates", hiking club "waiver forms" or "hike review" blog entries. Maybe the templates would support linking related EasySocial content, such as to the hike "Event" for which the Blog was written, or to the "California Hikers Group" that is the sponsor/creator of the event.

Re: recent subscription and access to EB 5?

I'm sure if you just purchased a subscription you will be able to access EasyBlog 5. I think the idea is to get people to buy a subscription now with 15 months instead of 12 since it may take a few months to properly test before final release, and this gives the SI Team some sales from those potential renewal subscriptions or new subscription buyers that are sitting on the fence waiting for the new version.

Great to see TABS built in there. Nice... that's another plugin I'll be able to remove as I embrace the wonders of Easy-Everything.... On that same note, can you sneak in SLIDERS too... Same as tabs but round the other way kind of thing... you know what I mean I'm sure.... Depending on the info they can suit a scenario better than tabs.

OK I promise, no more 'can you just' until I've earned the right to do so through my contributions in the beta testing.... can't wait!

That is indeed an awesome concept (and so probably what are miracle-workers have in mind!) - yes love the idea of being able to create site-specific content snippets for quick inclusion.

Sure there's other thing out there that can do it, but (a) highly likely not so well as StackIdeas and (b) the more 'extra' components and plugins etc the worse things get.... let's keep it EasyEverything

Hi mark,

The new editors looks awesome and is really pathbreaking.

But i cant help but ask, how much increase in JS/CSS size would these bells and whistles bring to EB.

Also in your current EB & ES, we would be happier if major reliance was on core Jquery & Bootstrap as loaded by default joomla would be used to the max, instead of full custom css/js

Any ETAs?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply, i agree that internet speed should not be a barrier, but the balance between optimization and features have to be weighed in.
Case in Point Jreviews and many others like community Answers etc.. give an option not to load jquery and reply on default joomla loads for their component, this way a lot of duplication is avoided. In EB ES case the js itself is about 700kb (Reduced to 300 odd kb) but thats still substantial. I'm sure 30-40% size can be taken off...

In EB ES case the js itself is about 700kb (Reduced to 300 odd kb) but thats still substantial. I'm sure 30-40% size can be taken off the the table just by utilizing core jquery & bootstrap. (I'm sure you must have weighed in all the pros and cons, but still there might be room for betterment)

On http://analyze.websiteoptimization.com it says "The size of this web page (3000442 bytes) has exceeded the maximum size of 3000000 bytes." (Not the case with majority of other sites)
But anyways the way things are moving page size should not be a problem, but page load times should be a major issue.

Thanks for the heads up on this Rachel. Unfortunately there's also a big drawback to this. If we were to rely solely on jQuery rendered by Joomla, there could be issues in the future where if there is a component that messes up the jQuery namespace, everything else would fail.

We try our best to reduce conflicts down to bare minimum. You wouldn't understand how difficult it is to troubleshoot all these javascript conflicts when there is a ton of module / extensions installed on the site

I m also joining to idea, that peformance its important and when I look for any extensions its my priority.
I never use even the best extension if it have issue with performance and it loads anything what it can
Also understand that priority is core component and then you can do some performance boost, but its always too think about it during developing, not after.
