EasySocial 2.2.6

EasySocial 3.0 Progress Updates

EasySocial 3.0 Progress Updates

It only has been about two weeks since we released PayPlans 4.0 and while the team was working on PayPlans 4.0, works for EasySocial 3.0 was already underway. With EasySocial 3.0, we realize that we should take a new approach for EasySocial when it comes to better user experiences.

Our focus for EasySocial 3.0 is focused on simplicity, clean cut and will provide better overall user experiences to generate more interactions between your users.

Redesigned Story Form

The story form plays one of the important roles in EasySocial, as this would be the point where users would interact with the site. In order to create a rich and friendly user experience on the story form, we went back to the sketching board and came up with a brand new user experience for posting status updates.

Apart from the aesthetics aspect, it also has been carefully crafted to improvise on the user experience while using the story form. Here are some of the behavior of the brand new story form.

Minimal and Clean Layout
Apps Dropdown
Favorite Apps

Looks amazing right? Let us know your thoughts on the brand new story form in the comments section below.

Curated Activity Stream Filters

Another key component in EasySocial would be the activity stream. With EasySocial 3.0, we decided to take a step further by allowing users to curate activity streams that would interest them, instead of having to view a specific set of activities.

With the newly curated activity stream filters, users can now filter activity streams by post types, and its not only restricted to a single post type, but it could now select one or more combination of post types on top of the existing activity stream filters.

Custom Backgrounds

Custom Background for Updates

This is probably one of the most anticipated feature as we received a ton of requests! It was initially introduced in Komento 3.1 and it now moves its way into EasySocial 3.0 as well! With the roll out of custom backgrounds in EasySocial 3.0, you can now create your own list of preset background selections :)

Share Buttons

Have you always wanted to have your own share button on other external sites? With EasySocial 3.0, we have introduced a brand new Share Button API that allows you to embed codes generated from EasySocial and embed it on any websites that you want. That's right! Any websites, as long as it is served by a web browser.

The idea behind the Share Button is to allow users to embed these buttons on their own sites. With that, they will be rewarded with points for every embedded code shared on their own sites. What a great way to mass market your site without spending a fortune!

In-stream Advertisements

One of the other key aspects about building your own community has always been ensuring it would be sustainable. With EasySocial 3.0, we will be introducing the all new In-stream Advertisements, where you can easily create advertisements right on the activity stream. This will be a great way to monetize and to ensure that the site you built to be more sustainable, which at the end of the day benefits you and the community on the long run.

Emoji Browser

Ever since the first release of EasySocial, there has always been an emoji converter where it would convert a specific set of text and converts them into emoji. I bet most of you did not realize until we responded to you on our helpdesk. It is truly a hidden gem on the site.

With EasySocial 3.0, we have now added an emoji browser by simply invoking the `:` character and then would automatically suggests the available list of emoji.

Brand New Modules for Activity Stream

News Feeds Module
Post Types Module

With the whole Redesigned Story Forms, Curated Activity Stream Filters, and a Redesigned Dashboard, we will also be introducing two new modules that will work hand in hand with the all new Curated Activity Stream Filters. These modules can be placed anywhere on your site, and it would then allow users to filter currently viewed activities based on these filters set. On top of that, this allows you to have a more flexible workspace as well.

Overall Improvements on User Experiences

One of the biggest dilemma we have with all of our product development in every major release causes us to add certain features or enhancing its existing features, which is not entirely bad per say. However, this usually resulted our products being over complicated with every release.

EasySocial 2.0 was the new starting point of us simplifying and centralizing our codes and design, however EasySocial 3.0 takes it a step further. Meeting all the needs and wants in a rather harmonious way possible.

Joomla 4 Compatibility

Ever since the implementation of GDPR kick-started in 29th May 2018, Joomla announced that Joomla 3.9 will address GDPR related update in light of EU requirements. Currently, Joomla 3.9 Beta 2 is available for extension developers like us to work with. It's looking that Joomla 3.9 stable might be available somewhere around October 2018. For this simple reason, Joomla 3.9 and Joomla 4 compatibility are definite for EasySocial 3.0 as well as the rest of our extensions in the same matter.

Rest assured that these updates doesn't water down the current functionality or usability. In fact, you might be surprised that it enhances the overall experience for EasySocial 3.0.

And Finally

I would like to express our gratitude for all the input that we received from you, and that we truly appreciate your feedbacks! That's all from me for now, but this isn't over yet as I have a whole list of other improvements and updates coming up on our next post :)

Have a great & awesome weekend everyone! Let me know your thoughts below.

It would be great to have an style like android pie. So the new material look. I'noticed, that you got in some details the edges rounded, but in other sections (like the toolbar) full edged.

The darkmode should have also an own color setting menu. So that we can have a shema for light and the other for dark settings. An other benefit would be, to show how many characters a post can be. As example: 400 characters ar limited. Down right of the post you see then something like this 145/400. So...

Or the function to upload own "stickers". The users can purchase them with the es points.

So like: an category for those stickers. Each has an own number. The admin can upload them easily into an section. Sticker 1 got the value (48284582) and if that typed, then the sticker png (96x96) is shown, whata allocated to this value (4824582).

Mark thank you so luch for the post. Hope i mustnt wait so long for the other post :D

Thanks for your input on this joy :) As always, it would be best to post these into the feature requests section. In fact, 70% of the new features are actually taken from our feature requests area :p

All this is very exciting ! :)
I can only applaud these improvements.

# Is the icon next to the blue Share button to select a Group ?

# Will EasySocial 3.0 offer a Custom Field Search Module?

# Will the new In-stream Advertisements be linked to PayPlans to manage the financial aspect ?
And so allow advertisers to define the duration of the campaign.

Thank you,

Very cool idea! So then can local stores or advertiser book something like this :D

also for my project very interesting. but as Philippe said a bridge to PayPlans would be nice. Also to pay with ES points should be possible.

  1. Mark    n00bster

Yep, I also like the idea of paying with points and because PayPlans 4 supports payment with EasySocial points, in a way, they could already pay with their EasySocial points.

  1. Mark    Philippe

Currently the sharing button allows you to insert them on any web pages to share contents into EasySocial. We're looking at enhancing them in the future to support groups, pages and events too but we would at the very least get the ball running first :)

As for the custom field search module, I would not comment on this as of yet, wait for the next blog post :p

  1. HMED

Looks awesome guys ! you're doing wonderfull job.

For me major of v 3.0 is about user experience and visuals, nothing realy to enhace users interaction and DATA uses ..

  1. Mark    HMED

Hm, user interactions and user experience is some of the key focus on 3.0 :) I am not sure what do you mean by DATA uses but feel free to share them on the feature requests area.

  1. Kenneth Alimba

Looks very beautiful and nice. But maybe a notification API for people who want to build mobile apps? Am I the only one who thinks this would be helpful?

i hope to god, they make Mobile apps by them self. Stackideas would have then a full solution package. :)

brilliant Mark and team can't wait, any news on page messaging

  1. Syabab    Robgunner

yes

  1. Mark    Robgunner

Thanks! Not sure what do you mean by page messaging though. Was this already posted on our feature requests section?

  1. Robgunner    Mark

being able to message a page direct rather than its owner, has been requested a few times on feature requests.
Have a great weekend Mark :)

  1. joy

Or an Analytics feature like twitter.

  1. Philippe

Will EasySocial 3.0 allow upload video files to YouTube without leaving EasySocial ?
https://stackideas.com/forums/upload-videos-files-directly-from-easysocial-to-youtube-solutions-exists

  1. Mark    Philippe

We've reviewed this and we believe it is a pretty good idea but we are not prioritizing on this just yet.

  1. Philippe    Mark

Ok. I understand.
It will be for later ;)

  1. Paul Murray    Mark

Hi Mark, Looks Great. And when every you are ready please do not Forget Vimeo as it offers the option to show videos only on sites you Chose = good if you want to try and monetise videos in an ES Group with PayPlans etc :-)

  1. ssnobben

Yes this I have been waiting for. Thks Stackideas guys. For those that want to check for Joomla & EasySocial mobile app IOS & Android native app Joomla dev integration can check this Joomla tool if it fits the need https://appsconda.com/

  1. Mark    ssnobben

Thanks ssnobben :)

  1. James

My wish item would be an emphasis on administrative control.

There are currently some inconsistencies in EasySocial and it makes it difficult to manage the website due to some of these things. I would also like to see more improvements to existing features rather than an enhanced layout.

  1. Mark    James

Thanks for the input on this James. What sort of administrative controls are you looking at?

Nice works! Great improvement as always ;)

I think the best part is the Share Button API :D

Few questions for ES3;
For Files upload, can we rename folder, add sub-folder, move files into other folder, search for files & folder?
Can we send a private message to a Pages?
Can we import Youtube playlist?
Can we invite user to join via Facebook, Twitter, Linked, etc...?

and I think Komento 'Share' feature is better than current ES 'Social Share' feature...clean & simple plus we can copy & share...

  1. Mark McGlynn

I completely agree with James in the comment above. Although visual enhancements are always to be welcomed, there is greater need for capability improvements such as tools (capability) that allow a 'page' or 'event' to be 'claimed' by a new member. These are much harder to execute but are more beneficial in the long run. The ability to invite members to claim pages, etc, would considerably help with membership drives, etc, which is what it is all about.

Thank you for all you hard work.

  1. Mark    Mark McGlynn

Thanks for the input on this Mark, appreciate it very much.

You guys never fail me. Very excited about this upcoming es3. will we be able to add our own emoji?

  1. Mark    Robert

We are still exploring this. If it cannot make it into 3.0, perhaps in the subsequent releases as the codebase already allows this to happen, we just want to ensure that it's done correctly :)

Would it be possible in the future version to have a new feature such as video log in live streaming and video stories? It would be nice to allow users to be able to write on their wall (stories) by voice recognition

  1. Sunny

Hi Mark, Congratulations & We eagerly await the new & enhanced ES3.

Read on few posts from you (Here & Elsewhere) that stackideas is working on a native mobile app, can you please give more insights!

If it happens alongwith ES3, then the combo would be a killer feature.

regards
Sunny

Hello any chance to have the Tags language selector support similar as Joomla 3.9 ? https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/pull/19509

That would be nice if working with Joomla menus for EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss and EeasySocial :)

  1. James    ssnobben

What do you mean by this @ssnobben? My team and I have been successful at creating a new Custom Field for Events that uses the Joomla Tag Component. It is also searchable using the EasySocial Search Module.

Hi,

There were some other interesting requests for adding to Easysocial 3.0:

1°/ Gif Browser (for example with https://giphy.com and/or some others gif and sticky providers)
2°/ 2nd level in comment section (for replying to a particular comment)
3°/ An ES apps menu module (blog, event, jticketing, jgive, ...) to place anywhere with icons

5°/ A better #Hashtag search included in ES search for example
6°/ A component/plugin/module (I don't know) to let ES users sharing theirs profile, streams, ... in their website, ... like the others Social Networks.
7°/ An ES shared article button to let the other Social Networks or medias or whatelse adding the possibility to share an article or something in our ES social network.
8°/ About background color in story form if it's like komento, it's interesting but it could be interesting to get the possibility to change text color and text size according to the background color.

So great that you focus on UX with key to usability. Would be nice with tooltip language aware tips for different functions where people really understand what to do and how to use the site functions for easy usage.

I currently have all email notificatoins turned off but users are missing key things happening on the site. When I turn them on my users get upset and overwhelmed by the messages.

Is this something that is being considered with the new version?

Hi Mark,
Looks great !!!

Please keep the Group Functionality on the same level and more :-)

Great news !
It will be useful to think a comune (unite ) notification system in one module for all easysocial components instaled in the same website, also at the streaming posts module a posibility to post a question in easydiscouse or easyarticoe ... Please think more integration posibilities between easysocial extentions ...

Best regards !

Alpha? another blog post maybe? a sneak preview of more features? something?
ohhh.... Jumping up and down doesn't seem to help my lack of patience :-)

I had the idea of backgrounds a while ago, it works on Easysocial 2.x, I use them on my site.
