Points System Capability

I'm looking to integrate a points award system into my site. I like the look of the points system which is a part of EasyDiscuss. Is there a way that this points system can be expanded to include other actions webusers take outside of EasyDiscuss? For example reading an article, clicking an article link, ticking a 'mark as complete' box????
