Is it safe to switch JCE Editor from HTML4 to HTML5?

I am posing this same question to my template provider about whether their templates are safe for me to change my default Doctype setting in the JCE Editor from HTML4 to HTML5. I believe this might be better for SEO but don't want to break my site.
I am wondering if EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss and EasySocial work better with HTML4 or HTML5?
