thanks a lot for this. I just found one thing: it doesn't show empty (new) discussions even if they are newer.

Thanks for testing this out I am sorry but I don't quite get you on this. Could you please elaborate more on this?

sure. with the module you actually wanna show the latest (active) topics. but the module only checks the topics for replies and doesn't count the starting post, I give you an example.
latest posts:
1 today (2 replies)
2 yesterday (3 replies)
3 last week (no replies)
4 last month (5 replies)
the 4 discussions above are the latest (newest) ones. the module shows:
1 today, 2 yesterday, 3 last month - it doesn't get that one without replies even if this discussion is newer - hope this was explained well ?

Also I just saw that the shown avatar is not the one from the last replier - it's showing the avatar from the person with the FIRST reply.

Sorry for the delay, missed this thread. The module is actually displaying the 'recent replies' which does not include the 'discussion'. Am I missing something here?

oh no, that wasn't my idea for this module
I want to give the crowd a short view of the easydiscuss frontpage - means the newest one's in the way kunena did it... I miss my kunena module

I just installed the module but see no changes? Am I missing something here or was it perhaps the wrong package?
It still shows the avatar of the thread starter and not of the one who replied last and also the topics without answers are still missing.

Strange, it seems to work fine on my local computer. Let me try this again. Have you tried uninstalling the previous module and install this new one?

I tried at a fresh install. But I also made a diff now between the first version and your attached one and it really looks as it's the same one - so perhaps you selected the wrong one at upload? is this possible?
