Making our extensions more affordable

About 5 years ago when we started working on SectionEx, our primary goal was to set a benchmark for Joomla extensions. Little did we know that as we progress, we now have a total of 4 huge and amazing Joomla extensions. Our team grew from 3 to 15 to be able to maintain all our extensions. These are not just any other extensions but extensions that does it's job in detail and in style of course.

 

In order to maintain the quality of our support and the continuous development cycle of all our products, we needed to charge for the service that we are providing. Some of you that have gotten in touch with us did provided us with feedback about the pricing strategy while some others agree with the current prices. There are also others who agree that we should be charging a more premium price on our extensions but in return deliver more addons for free.


With all these feedback at the back of my head, I have sat down with the team and also had lots of discussion with reputable Joomla extension developers and template clubs to fine tune our pricing structure while also being able to sustain the team of professional support and our development team. Our extensions are too cheap but at the same time, it's too expensive for some of the Joomla users out there. With this in mind, we have decided to fine tune our plans to make things even more affordable but yet at the same time retain the quality.

 

Personal Bundle

The personal bundle is targeted and is suitable for enthusiasts that would like to start a new website with all our amazing extensions. This bundle includes all of our extensions and it will include 6 months of support and updates for all products. Our Amazing Support is limited to 1 domain only. The price of this new bundle would be $149.

 

Club Bundle

The club bundle is targeted for site owners who builds more than 1 site but doesn't really require a developer license per-se. The club bundle includes all of our extensions and it will include 12 months of support and updates for all products. Our Amazing Support is limited to 2 domains only. The price of this new bundle would be $299.

 

Agency Bundle

The agency bundle is targeted to web builders who builds more websites and uses our extensions throughout their sites. The agency bundle includes all of our extensions and it will include 12 months of support and updates for all products. Our Amazing Support is limited to 5 domains only. The price of this new bundle would be $599

 

This is just the tip of the iceberg. With both the Club & Agency bundle, we have a loyalty reward. The loyalty reward allows you to get up to 15% at the first year and 30% for the second year of renewals. Yep, it's on the entire bundle and it is not per extension. The only catch is that you have to maintain the subscription.

I have also gathered some of the questions that may arise on most of your heads below but if it isn't listed here, please feel free to ask in the comments section.

 

I already have a single extension, can I renew them instead?

The existing single extension pricing plans will remain unchanged and you could still renew these single extensions separately.

12 months for everything?

The 12 months support and update applies to the Club and Agency bundle for all four of our extensions.

 

I only need a single extension. Will this still be available?

Yes, you will still be able to purchase these single extensions separately. However, we will be retiring the Developer plan from our single extension plans as it would be a no brainer compared to the Agency Bundle

 

Do you have a coupon code to help me make this decision?

Fortunately, yes and you can use the coupon code MAKEMYDAY to get $10 rebate on any of our bundles for the first billing period.

 

Since I am also blogging about the bundle changes, I would also like to take this opportunity to answer a question that comes up frequently on our support channel. When your subscription runs out, you will not be able to access the downloads and the only reason behind that is because we do not recommend installing older versions as it may contain bugs or security issues. This does not mean that our extensions are insecure but it's a safety measure that we take to ensure everyone would be able to use our extension free from these bugs.

    Thanks guys very interesting, we are using the 4 extensions and we'll take the personal pack instead of the actual multiples subscriptions per extension.

    question, can we take a new package and leave our pervious licences after they expire in some weeks ?

    Hello Jan,

    The "personal" bundle is actually not as affordable as the "club" bundle if you do the math for a long run :) Personal is valid for 6 months and 12 months would cost about the same every year but you don't have loyalty discounts as compared to the Club bundle :)

    Yes, you can go ahead and take the bundle and leave the old one to expire.

    I already have extensions plan but with different expiration dates :
    ED on 7th November 2016
    ES on 21st December 2017
    EB on 9th April 2017
    What will happen if i upgrade to Club Bundle ?
    is there a way to uniformise expiration date ?

    You read my mind to include a bundle with 12 months of ES support. With my second site going online early next year, the Club bundle is right up my ally. One question though...it says at the top of the page for a limited time. What is for a limited time? The bundle pricing or the coupon?

    Question:
    EasySocial meanwhile is expired, all three other extensions are valid till end of the year.
    Am I able to renew with bundle and the 6month will be ADDED to the rest-time, so expiration rof the other 3 will be next year June?

    I have ES expiring the end of this month, ED expiring April 2017. If I get the personal bundle at the end of the month will my April subscription for ES still be valid? So...ES, EB and komento would expire in 6 months while ED would be good till April 2017?

    Since I started with Stackideas it was a solid choice to do so. With many comparisons and evenings digging into features Easysocial came out with the most and outstanding code and highly recommended support. And indeed the best choice it is. Since day one we had updates discounts and last but not least the best help you could wish for. The experience you guys give to the product is one of a kind.

    I have worked with many software developers and most of the time support is a weird thing. Al those questions from random customers. Duplicates and already solved issues. With all this said you did it! You created a company you can be proud of.

    Waiting for Easysocial 2.0 can't wait...

    Hi Ben, i am using the 4 extensions from stackideas from two years, i can tell you just some thing which can be confirmed by all users here, you'll never regret using those products (quality and 5 stars support), for this reason if you have well studied your projet then take the maximum, the Club bundle !

    @Mark, it would be perfetct for us if you consider adding commercial apps in the club bundle for example, that will motivate more users here to take it :)

    Thank you Jan, priceless comments! Appreciate it very much. To be honest, we cannot be providing the apps for free and it's simply because we need to maintain the apps.

    We have tried this before and giving free apps really wouldn't work. Not only it is taxing, we'll burn out really fast.

    Our core extensions has to be strengthen and for these additional apps, it should be made optional and maintained well. To maintain these apps, there are costs incurred (I wish we had volunteers who constantly submit free apps but let's get real, people needs to be rewarded)

    Nice. Just one question.. What are the chances of getting my hand to Es 2.0 before my current plan expire in October? I am interested in going for one of the new plans you guys have now, but I am concern about the time frame of major release (with new features) that you guys are not able to provide during the one year plan. For that one year of my subscription, I have only experienced es 1.4 with updates.. :(

    Having a subscription is not just about receiving major updates. Maintaining an active subscription allows you to get updates and support as we also released minor releases for EasySocial.     Looks like I will be moving to the Club bundle. I have one site that uses EasyBlog and Komento and another site that uses EasySocial, EasyDiscuss, EasyBlog and Komento. So, the Club bundle seems like the best option.

    I also hope for some prorated pricing when a person upgrades as has been expressed by others since I also have a bunch of software all expiring at different times and was thinking to wait to let things expire and then purchase the bundle. But, I could be tempted to convert everything to the bundle now if there was some sort of deal to help get us started. One big advantage to me of the bundle is having on one time a year to renew. I like that for simplicity. :-)

    The "Personal Bundle" was exchanged with the "Professional Bundle" due to feedback from our users wanting a 12 month over 6 month.

    When we added a new "Pro" bundle to the list, everything look too cluttered and it's difficult to really understand the pricing structure. Anyway, if you do the math, the Pro is cheaper than the Personal :)

    I realize the pro is a better deal for most, but not for people new to Stackideas who may not want to shell out money for a year long bundle for something they are unfamiliar with, or for those who simply want to get started with your suite but don't have the money for the one year contract. You give people an inexpensive start up option and you guys make more money in the process. How can that not be a win win for everybody involved?

    I guess it really depends on how you look at things. Some customers are looking forward to a longer support insurance while some don't. To make it really affordable for everyone, the new bundles would be ideal since it will be cheaper.

    The math I had done yes ^^ But for me its not about cheaper. If we stick to the 12 months plan this is of coarse perfect. I personal loved the 6 months plan but thats just the weirdo me talking i guess ;)

    Anyways, Got your answer and really like the way you still give the opportunity to do so. Many (all) other companies would just have said NO. It is what it is.....

    Thats what makes Stackideas a success. Love it!

    Secondly, the 'Personal' Bundle is priced at $149... you say the Professional Bundle replaced it, the PRO is listed at $249.

    I've invested a lot of money already for your extensions - I've sent a message asking what your BEST price is for Renewal, it has gone 'unanswered' - I'm at a point where $249 isn't what I want to spend... Even if YOU think the price is merely Double what the "Personal Bundle was worth"..

    Since starting with you folks - I HAD hoped that the product would reach a point where SUPPORT wouldn't COST as much as the Buying the ENTIRE package again. I feel as if I'm not paying for 'Maintaining' the ware.. but actually REPURCHASING it again, and again, and again.

    Hence, only investing into it 6 months at a time..

    I'm happy with out it works at this point compared to your Competitor - but just marginally... Their product is priced more conservatively...

    thanks for all the 'neat new' stuff ... and the continued.. 'changes' fixes and such.. But I'm not into it for $249.

    As for your question for a Personal bundle, I believe I have also pasted you the link to the Personal bundle, did you not get my reply?

    Regardless if you are investing in 6 months or 12 months, any of the bundle is still cheaper than renewing all your extensions at a 20% or even 30% discount rate :)

    I am not too sure which competitor you are referring to but as far as I recall, our price is pretty competitive and we are priced almost identical. I guess you probably want to ask yourself if their support is as good and as responsive as ours :)

    ADD UP how much Money I've spend SUPPORTING your Company's efforts.. and note the number of years I've been using your material.. to including purchasing 'add on' routines..

    And then simply answer the question.. "What's the BEST price you can offer for Renewal"..

    And I'll choose where I spend my next WAD of cash!..

    The Price of the 'Personal Bundle' was listed at $149. (All of the extensions for six months)
    The Price of your 'Competitors' Social ware is $149.

    You're telling me.. 'so sorry' we don't have the 'Personal Bundle any more' you have to pay MORE for 12 months to get that..

    and.. 'As much as I'd like to remain YOUR customer (after all these years)... I think your manipulation of the prices needs to be REVIEWED from the side of a person actually INVESTING in your 'stuff'..

    Again, I asked the Pre-Sales folks for the BEST offer they have... for a RETURNING Customer..
