What I would like is to be very very mobile "focused" with UX/UI design for mobile users and easy user logic to use all functions.

One function I dont like for example is the swipe for ES menus on browsing by mobile and that one is one example that could be improved for better mobile user experience. If you have many menus for apps there you have no understanding what is all about there if you are a new ES mobile user ( not the mobile app ).

About voices: some of us have taken up the topic again and again in recent years. Although the stack team has increasingly reacted to user voices, it seems that they can no longer keep up with the rapid pace at which the internet is developing.

i'm not sure if it was a wise idea to develop a native app as well, which takes a lot of time and resources (I also wonder if it pays off at all for stackideas itself - Jreviews also tried a native app but dropped it because it didn't fit the trend).
my personal input here in the forum has always been that first the basic functions and the integration of all other Stackideas components have to play together perfectly before you take the next big step.
for my projects the two new features marketplace and the advertising option mosts count for me. because I see here the most opportunity to earn money within a website as a owner.

I also think that, from the stackideas point of view, more value should be placed on user voices and these should be integrated in shorter sprint developments.

It is clear that improving the mobile interface must be the priority, as the statistics prove it.
We all know that Internet users are now mainly on mobile.

I think developing the native app is a great strategy. Because the frequentation of a social network is daily, even several times a day (unlike JReviews).
A native application is really comfortable for the user. It's much more convenient and instantaneous.
An application is essential to increase the engagement and participation of users on the social network.

This native application can precisely allow us to compete directly with Facebook Groups, by offering a similar experience.
It all depends on the project of course.

However, the price is a bit excessive, which must hold back a large number of customers.
For my part, as soon as the Quick Posting tool is integrated into the Native App, I will pay a license

The feature requests section was developed so that we can understand what customer wants and of course it also depends on the feasibility of making the idea come true. If it is feasible and fits right into the milestone, we are more than happy to include it into the core.

If we have the most votes on creating a new smart car, does this mean we have to implement it? No, certainly not. But it gives us an idea that what most customers want and whether or not it is worth our time to work on such features.

Different customers has different expectations and unfortunately as much as we try to please everyone, in reality, that is just not possible. A very good example is to look at this little thread alone, and you can spot the different expectations (native mobile app vs non native mobile app vs mobile menus)

Yes it’s a dilemma I understand Mark and team. I though believe that mobile first is a good approach bcs that’s were most traffic and users are now days mostly especially for a social site/app. I promoted the mobile app and team to develop that and paid for it even I haven’t start to dev it myself bcs I think it’s a good decision and it need time to get it right.

I think now that all ground work is done it’s really important to get the design view appealing for users and that’s a difficult challenging bcs users comes to a site or app, give it a few sec and then decide to join or leave. We can learn a lot from facebook. EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss from Quora, Reedit, Blogger etc sites that are successful and see how they managed to design with good logic and KISS principles.

Users mostly want things quick and simple thats what I learn and it have to work flawlessly just see all reviews about apps!

Mark, don't get me wrong: I definitely give the principle of "mobile first" the highest priority in my projects - because i like apps too. It's just that the current app doesn't have enough features to make me want to subscribe to it.
One good example when i talk about basics is the problem that when i open a youtube video in the app i am redirected to the youtube website. it is hard enough to keep the users on the website and here the users are redirected - that's why there is a feature request.
there are a few such requests that would improve the user feeling a lot with a moderate effort - the request section is full of them

it's only in the last few months that you've started to unify the design across all components and optimised processes. we've been suggesting that for years before, the relationship between the individual features and your other components was simply not easy for us, our community members and visitors to understand.
i think the current updates are very positive in terms of the interaction of the design - it is the right direction.

There is a feature that has been requested by many users for several years now. The topic is featured many times on the forum.
This feature would allow us to select secondaries categories for Groups, Pages, Events and MarketPlace Items.

Due to the ACL settings, we could keep the main category (Primary).
Secondary categories would allow us to display Items into multiple Categories at the same time.
On the same principle as EasyBlog.

This is something really vital to develop our sites.

I am not against using Tags. They could be complementary to the categories, to refine a list of results.

But Tags have the big drawback of being isolated and not being hierarchical.

Hm, 21 days is pretty sufficient me thinks but we can always increase it if needed to.

I would love to have a "by adding global tagging system" unified tagging system EB,ES, ES + Joomla that also include Joomlat core tagging system so you can set up nested categories tagging menu system but also set up filters + module filters for all these integrated tagging system.

That would be very very powerful and useful for all users that want to achieve this hiearchial but interlinked system with specific tagging filter modules on pages as you like.

To be honest, I doubt that it would work for our extensions as we do not rely fully on the table api from Joomla. If we had to rely on the table API, it is impossible for us to create a version that is compatible with both J3 and J4 so quickly :x

Having said that, I will play around with it to see if we could make use of it.

I allow myself to highlight other features that I think are useful for everyone.
This concerns Groups.

First of, all at the time of Registration :
It would be very interesting if the user could select and join several Groups at the time of his registration.
On the same model of Pinterest for example.

Thus the user will automatically receive the Digest Emails from the Groups, which will encourage them to come back and connect to the site.
Because I noticed that new users do not have the reflex to join Groups.

Currently I have created several Profile Types for each Group, but this is complex to manage and is not the right solution.

In the Dashboard Activity Stream, it would be really relevant if the posts of Joined Groups and Liked Pages were displayed with the Filter Timeline: Following.
So this Following button would include the streams of the Users, Groups, Pages and Events Followed Liked or Joined.

It would make sense.
On Facebook, users don't see the feed of All Groups and Pages. But only Joined Groups and Liked Pages.

What do you think ?

Technically, this will be insane because "Following" relies on user objects. I would also call it an abomination. What you are trying to do now is to force it to also look into other objects (Pages, Groups, Events) . What is even worst is they all have different sets of privacy.

At the end, the query would be extremely complex and you end up with extremely slow queries and an angry hosting provider. We will end up getting support queries like "EasySocial is killing the database!! Please help!" .

We will not have any solution apart from asking the customer to get a proper server to host a social network but 90% of the customers wouldn't understand. Because of that, we will eventually add a settings to turn on / off this feature which then adds many more complexity to the settings.

You can try this for yourself with EasySocial. Try to turn off the privacy in EasySocial and notice the speed difference when it is enabled and disabled.

Yes, this would be perfect.

This is what we call an onboarding process. It's possible to do some of this after the fact using some of the EasySocial modules, and other 3rd party tools like Tassos EngageBox but having a true OnBoarding process builder would be amazing. This would not only benefit users from a Groups perspective but if built right could also help connect them with Events, Pages, and other Users.

With a list of all Groups, Pages and Events if possible, not just the Featured ones. To avoid having to manually add each new Groups and Pages.

Here is another very interesting solution which would allow all EasySocial sites to offer the upload of Videos to users.

Because the FFMpeg library is very greedy in CPU and disk space, it is only available on expensive hosting.

To remedy this, we could use the YouTube or Dailymotion API.



There is even a little script ready to use for Dailymotion :

Now what would be great is that this script is integrated with the current EasySocial Video uploading tool.

Finally, everybody could offer the uploading Videos to all our users

Hello. What Dailymotion will do if somebody will upload Porn? Will it ban Publisher account and remove all videos?

The content will need to be removed manually. And as a precaution, all Videos can be sent in private mode.

For most sites, there is very little chance that pornographic video content will be posted.

I think thats why or you must have a dedicated server or your own so you have control of everything.

I am also in the process of setting up this now just to have better ES control of video sharing services to your users. 2 cpus power and 70 tb storage mirroring system with only one bottleneck - leased line capacity. Hope that will work well reg. performance with ES mobile app integration too. If you also could add extra storage capacity it would be great.

It would be the simplest solution, but on the other hand the most expensive!
I'm at PlanetHoster, and the Mutualized offer costs a minimum of 6 € / month (6.88 USD). And offers 8 CPU, 16GB RAM, Unlimited disk space

The HybridCloud dedicated server costs a minimum of 49.99 € per month (57.31 USD)
And offers 2 CPU, 4GB RAM, 60GB DISK

The price difference is huge !
Not to mention that reading Videos is also very resource intensive.

YouTube and Dailymotion have the immense advantage of costing nothing, of keeping the original quality of the Videos, and of adapting the image quality adapted according to the bitrate (1080P, 720P, 480P, etc.).


The other solution would be otherwise to use the YouTube API and OAuth (Sign in with Google)
To allow users to upload their videos to their own Google/YouTube account.
Thus the responsibility would be individual.

In case of policy violations, only the account of the person who sent the video would be suspended.

Hey folks, just reading back up on some of your posts.

I have been through the growing pains with Joomla and EasySocial where we onboarded over 30,000 users into ES and had thousands of concurrent users at any given time. We did the onboarding in stages where we would bring in 500 - 2500 new users per day during our beta period to stress test the system.

Our specs at the time:
- AWS EC2 Server - m4.4xlarge (16vCPU/64GB Ram)
- AWS EFS Storage - This was used for Joomla and the static assets of the website
- AWS S3 Storage - This was used for user generated content in EasySocial
- AWS Cloudfront - CDN

All of those resources and we still encountered a lot of latency issues on the user side. The two major bottlenecks that we found:
- CSS and Javascript Assets - These were extensive as we had created a very complex template which required a lot of additional javascript on top of what was being loaded by Joomla and EasySocial.
- Database Latency - We had a lot of issues with latency at the database. For example, scrolling to load more resources on the timeline should be near instant, but would often times take several seconds.

Some things we had planned on doing if we had grown any larger:
- Create a server cluster with zoned servers, load balancers, and on demand EC2 instances
- Separate the database from the primary server and give it a server just for its self

Regarding video uploads:
- My opinion is that using FFMPEG is still a good solution, but for website that are using a lot of resources it might be beneficial to have a separate server specifically for Media Encoding. This would mean that EasySocial would have to be redesigned, and allow for a remote server destination and not just a local path. The logic and workflow would also have to accommodate that task of pulling, sending, encoding, and then sending it back to whatever storage container the website is using. I don't foresee StackIdeas doing something like this because I don't believe that there are too many sites that require such resources.

We have since changed the direction we are going. Building a Social Network around gaming is extremely difficult, and expensive. We built some very cool integrations for EasySocial that interfaced with the API's of Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, IGDB, and more... maintaining it all was a nightmare though!

It's great to see people jumping in and share ideas rather than just bombarding us with everything they want

Embedding videos is great! But it also comes with several problems (that I can think at the back of my head right now)

1. Some customers runs sites that are not inline with the allowed policy from Youtube / Vimeo, making this feature useless to them.

2. The native mobile app will have a hard time rendering and manipulating embedded videos

3. GDPR and all various privacy headaches

When we hasn't money for server (video uploading),
Site members used (upload videos manually to) Vimeo, Daylimotion, LiveLeak, non-censor bitchute.com and other custom embed services with options like:
1) available for link only / available for embed (so nobody can't find it on Vimeo, Daylimotion and report)
2) video for adults (18+) and necessary tags (not for kids / violence). etc.
And everything gone well.

But later (after few years) videos was deleted / Lots of accounts on Vimeo, Daylimotion, LiveLeak, non-censor bitchute.com was blocked. Tons of videos become unavailable. And I had to search and remove it on site manually 1 by 1 or use mass unpublition in DataBase.

If your users use SAVE (not adult) videos I suggest them to upload first on YouTube / Daylimotion and embed on site. In this case videos or accounts still can be blocked for copyright report (automatically by video service system). I can't see reason why users should upload (not personal) videos that already in youtube. Personal life videos can be upload manually.

Here is a very good example of using Dailymotion for Uploading videos by Users.
What is also interesting is that on the native mobile application, Dailymotion videos are autoplayed directly in the Stream. And it's very fast !

Those video players are just rendered using webviews, they are not native to the app. Controlling it is still the same as you tapping on the video player on the web unlike uploaded videos with a built-in video player.

And since we are talking about EasySocial Native App, what do you think of my idea of Quick Posting shortcut ?
A shortcut would be always available in the App to post directly in a Group / Page / Event / Profile

Because publishing content is the most essential feature for a social network !

We are considering the quick publishing tool but it might not be released as part of EasySocial as this is a pretty tedious plugin to be managed

I allow myself to specify that it is important that the first step (just after the opening of the tool), is the selection of the place where the publication will be posted (Group, Page, Event or Profile).

So that the user clearly understands where his publication will be posted

Yes would be nice to have a video recording tool by mobile, desktop implementation too like social tools Tiktok, Insta etc where you can set lenght of recording like 15 s 30 s and 60 sec allowing people to upload their own recordings from their phone and by settings in backend of time allowed..

In my opinion, you are cooking up PayPlans version 4.3, or even better PayPlans 5!
There's also the Native App, which I think will be even more awesome. It has very big changes.

You are probably thinking about and developing the new major version of EasySocial.

A few months ago you said :

We already have a master plan right now where we intend to separate ACL, Custom fields and the rest of these complex operations from the parent objects (categories, profile types)

To disassociate Form Builders from Categories :
When creating a Page, instead of the user selecting a Category, the solution might be for the user to choose the Form Builder that best matches the theme of his Page ?

And then the user would only have to define Tags to his Page.

The administrator could thus define one or more Tags for each category (Parent or sub-category).
So that by browsing the categories, the Pages, Groups, Events and MarketPlace Items could be classified in several categories.
