I have perhaps an unusual question. It has to do with composing on the back end and then publishing on the front end. And I will include screenshots to illustrate.
When I compose on the backend I get a really nice, wide screen. But the front of the site's main column is sandwiched between two sidebars. That main column size is approx 700px so what happens is that I create (and format) the article in the back (at 1000px +) but when I publish it it's not anything like what I created in the back (obviously.)
Is there a way to create the article in a way that gives me something closer than the disparity between the two that I'm seeing now? In other words, can EasyBlog be adjusted in the back end to more accurately reflect what I'm going to see when the article is published.
Just FYI, I'm using JCE for the editor, not the EasyBlog one.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mark
Hello Mark,

The editor that you are using is indeed what you see is what you get but the issue here is the "width" area of the extension that is defined by your Joomla template.

The reason that you are seeing things differently after publishing is mainly because on the front end, your template has already defined a width which then compresses the layout (as your second screen shot).

There is no real way to fix this unless your Joomla template has a larger width for the extension area.

Happy New Year!

I know the reasons why it looks different but why can't I adjust the editing width in EasyBlog of the backend to better reflect the size difference?

This is OBVIOUSLY possible in Joomla (see screenshot.) Why is that handle missing in EasyBlog no matter what editor I use?

Hi Mark,
This issue could be due to a bug on older JCE editor versions(http://take.ms/PP7NOY). I updated my older JCE editor to the latest version and the issue is resolved locally. Can you try installing the latest JCE editor on your site, then make sure these settings are enabled(http://take.ms/QSYrF).
Let us know how it goes. If the issue persists, can you provide us your backend and ftp access so we can investigate further? Thanks.

The editor has been updated and the setting you mention has always been YES.

And now, the front end creation/editing doesn't work. The editor screen shows white which I think is a PHP issue.

Soon, EasyBlog won't be worth the hassle. You can check if you want but I'm already examining alternatives for all my websites.

Thank you,
Mark

Hey Mark,
I investigated your site and tried to temporary disable JCE editor and the white screen issue on the frontend persists. This means that the issue did not come from the updated JCE editor.
I suspect that issue could be coming from:
1) older version of EasyBlog. I noticed that your EasyBlog veresion is 5.0.32. Do note that many bug fixes have been performed on EasyBlog since 5.0.32 so it would be best to update to the latest version, you would need to perform backups of the site as well before doing so.
2) conflict with certain components/plugins. We would like to help you investigate further, however to do so we would need your ftp access for the debugging process.

Please forgive my bad attitude. Was (still am) having a bad day. I do like EasyBlog - I've purchased it for two different clients. But when it creates issues like the one I'm having (and then creates other, different issues after your suggestions to update JCE) I tend to get a bit grumpy. I do tech support too and hate when people act the way I am toward you - whoever is the recipient of my crappy attitude. So apologies.

I am, as mentioned, evaluating other software for blogging. EasyBlog is fantastic for software wonks like me but it's sooo complicated for everyday bloggers who don't have a lot of patience for learning all the features. My suggestion would a "simple" mode that I can assign users to and doesn't give them a thousand options. JaggyBlog is perhaps a good example of this simpler, cleaner interface. Most bloggers who aren't the owner of the site don't need a million features - just a clean interface and way to create content. Just my two cents.

If you want to continue to explore I would welcome that. FTP access is as follows:

Hey Mark,
Thanks for your input. It is very much appreciated.

We have investigated your site and found an old bug from the older version of EasyBlog with this file: JoomlaFolder/components/com_easyblog/themes/wireframe/composer/blocks/menu.php
We have helped you applied the file from the latest version of EasyBlog so your composer in the front end should be loading fine now.

I thank you for this.

The main issue remains. There no grab handles to size the editing screen. EasyBlog is almost useless without the ability for me or my posters to see what their articles really look like. I have to constantly bounce between what I'm editing / writing and what is being displayed on the front page. Where are the grab handles?

Hey Mark,

My colleague Raymond is not around today, I will handle your issue.

Based on what you reported that issue is not possible to resize the JCE editor screen? But I just tested on your site, it seems I can able to resize it, perhaps you can watch my video here and see is it I reproduce wrongly?

By the way, you can use the blog preview feature when you editing or writing also can preview how is your current content format.

-> http://screencast.com/t/fFWLe3hMte (video link)

However, when you use blog preview, you have make sure following you done correctly :
- you must login from your frontpage because when you preview the post, it will redirect to frontpage.
- Make sure your current browser didn't block your preview pop up.
