I just now discovered an account in the Pending status that I did not expect to find there. The user name is had successfully activated their account but somehow did not become enabled. I had thought that all users asking for an account in Registered Users would be enabled automatically upon successful activation of their account by clicking on the link that is sent to them via email.

There is an exception to this in that I did want to have ALL users asking to be in the Bloggers group to require my Approval.

Do you have any idea why a user would be activated but not enabled as a Registered User. I have not seen this before.

The users name is Linda Robinson

My intent is to allow anybody to activate their account and become enabled if they are apply to the Registered Users group. If they apply for the Bloggers group then I want to approve them because I need to communicate with them first.

Thank you, Sean Carney
Hi Sean,
I am unable to replicate this locally or on your site using the 'user activation' method. May I know the exact link and steps that your users use to register in order to achieve this state(http://take.ms/TaraU) with the pending admin approval status as well so we can try to replicate this?

Thank you for looking Raymond,

I am not really able to give you the exact steps. But, I will send an email to the user and try to communicate with them and if I can figure out something I will let you know. Thanks again. Hopefully we will come to an understanding. I will let you know if this happens again. It is NOT something I have seen before.

Sean

I still have no idea why this keeps happening. Some of the users are being activated but not enabled. Odd. I am assuming they are activated because they were able to click on the email link to confirm their account. But, I do not have any idea what the criteria is for whether they become enabled or are sent for moderator approval.

Hey Sean,
Unfortunately, I am still unable to replicate the issue after activating my account by clicking on the activation link from my email. The only way I can think of currently to achieve the activated/disabled user state is by banning the user. Was any ban performed on those users by anyone recently either from the backend(Joomla or ES users page) or frontend(http://take.ms/2CT0l)?

I am marking this as resolved and will report it again if it shows up again.
