Hello, this is VERY IMPORTANT to us and we would appreciate a work around.

We would like to refer to each connection (friends) not as friends but CONTACTS.

To put it bluntly, it will be a social networking site but we rather not refer to our individual connections as a friendship. We would rather keep it professional and refer to individual users as contacts as stated above.

Thus the word friend on the site would be replace with Contact and you get things like e.g add a contact and not add a friend, contact suggestions and not friend suggestions, notifications saying e.g Michael and Sam are now connected.

Essentially, the word friend(s) would not appear on the site.

Can this be configured to suit our needs?

We anticipate your usual prompt and optimal customer service
Hi,

If you are using language override technique, then it will stay intact on EasySocial update.

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no "easy" way to configure this. You will have to modify the strings in the language file directly.

Hi,

You can find the language files in:

/languages/en-GB/en-GB.com_easysocial.ini for frontend languages and you can edit this file to achieve the output text that you want.

Thanks Jason, was really helpful. it's gonna take quite a while to change the word friend on the entire site:) at least it's doable. Thanks again.

Quick question though, is it possible to turn off the 'Everyone ' option on the newsfeed section of a users account?

Michael,

You need to keep in mind that the language file will get overwritten the next time you update EasySocial. The best thing to do is to put your language overrides in the languages/overrides folder that Joomla provides. You can efficiently add your language overrides one at a time via the Extenstionr>Language Manager dropdown in the Joomla backend. This file does not get overwritten when updating.

Thanks Guys, this surely is an awesome community. The help is simply overwhelming. Much appreciated.

JW, please could you guide me as to where I can find the Joomla language/override folder?

Guidance from other users or stacksupport team is highly welcomed.

Cheers!

Doesnt Joomla 3 now have a pretty good language overwrite component? So you can simply create overwrite rules that won't get overwritten in component updates. Its really simple. You copy the language strings you want to change from the components language file, so it will be something like [LANGUAGE_STRING] and then you enter a new value for it.

If you're not familiar with Joomla you'll either need to be able to log into the server or FTP and look at the language file, or you can get the file out of the component files. I dont know if Joomla has a language file browser actually, that would be handy.
