Hello,

EasySocial has a feature allowing users to upload their video file.
However, this is restricted to those whose server includes FFMpeg Library.
In addition, hosting videos are very expensive because it consumes a lot of bandwidth.

To overcome this problem, and thus allow us all to enable the uploading of video files directly from our sites, I suggest that Stackideas integrate the Dailymotion video upload API in EasySocial.

Indeed, Dailymotion offers a Video Upload API. And this allow to decentralize the uploading and hosting of videos.

On GitHub you can find a script already done. You can try on your site, it works great ?
https://github.com/tranquocdai/dailymotion-uploader

Concretely :
- the user will upload his video file directly to the EasySocial website
- the file will be automatically uploaded to your Dailymotion channel
- Dailymotion will process the video
- and EasySocial retrieves the link from the Dailymotion video and publishes it on your site

Your server does not need to be powerful and to have the FFMpeg Library.
Playing videos does not consume the bandwidth of your server.
Users don't not need to have or create a Dailymotion account, because the videos are directly upload to your Dailymotion channel.

Compared to Youtube, Dailymotion has a much less rigorous policy. If adult content is published, your Dailymotion account will not be blocked. This is an important point in our case.

We will save a lot of money and we will offer great functionality for our users :
upload video files without leaving Joomla and EasySocial !

I hope many of us want this feature. Because it would be really great !
The examples show that this is possible.
I'm sure Stackideas would succeed.

Thank you,
Philippe
Hi, hi

I do not use You Tube much rather Vimeo

I am not going to pretend that Vimeo is the Holy Grail.
It often feels clunky and cumbersome.
However it does have in my eyes some advantages over You Tube.

If I upload a video to Vimeo today I can swap it out with out breaking the link tomorrow.
(This becomes a huge deal when I have a play list with for eg 15 videos in it.)
Yes, they finally have a playlist thing that works!!!
They have a Vimeo App which allows me to batch upload videos from my computer. (eg 15 videos)
They offer more customisation and branding options, colours. logos etc.
They also have functions to hide the videos from Vimeo and display only on a site of your choosing.
And one last thing that I think is pretty cool is they have a system for reviewing and approving videos.
(This is similar but not as advanced as frame.io) and is for me in some ways the most interesting thing about Vimeo.
To get many of the above functions you have to pay but are not talking about very reasonable pricing:

https://vimeo.com/upgrade

eg starting at 6€ per month.

Just my 2 cents

best

Hi Paul,

I also like Vimeo
I will be glad that this integration is also proposed.
But YouTube has a much larger audience. Vimeo is not known to the general public.
Because the interest of this technique, is also to enrich your channel YouTube thanks to the videos of our visitors.
And so to generate visibility and traffic for our website.

While doing some research, there are examples that use the Vimeo API to upload videos without leaving Wordpress :
https://vimeography.com/add-ons/vimeography-upload
https://github.com/ryansechrest/wp-vimeo-integration

I specify that the interest of this tool will be for our visitors, so that it can upload their video files without leaving Joomla and EasySocial.

Thanks

could be a useful feature, but please only as a option in the settings

Users don't not need to have or create a YouTube account, because the videos are directly upload to your YouTube channel.

my thoughts on this:
question is about the users and your community itself. when someone want to host videos on external services he will do that without you or your community. when you want to grow as a unique brand with contents from your loyalty community members than you should not give userdata away.
in times of cloud-VPS and cloud-CDN services server-power and storage-space should not the problem to selfhost all your data.

@n00bster

I totally agree with concerning keeping / "OWNING" your members datas on your own storage but...
At the end it is always a question of costs.

A small user base uploading a video once in a while is OK but 50.000+ members uploading video(s) daily...

The ideal would be an optional system with ACL controls:

1- Website administrator videos are uploaded by the site owner (+ACLs) to their own Youtube and/or Vimeo account (website Official channel) OR to the "members channel" see point 2
A selectable option for the administrator to select the channel on the front-end :

Select where you would like to upload the video:
(_) Youtube Official Website Channel (site admins only)
(_) Vimeo Official Website Channel (site admins only)
(_) WEBSITE Youtube Channel for Members
(_) WEBSITE Vimeo Channel for Members

2- Website owners create a second account on Youtube/Vimeo for members to upload the videos. The site owner still has control because he owns the(se) channels.

Select where you would like to upload the video:
(_) WEBSITE Youtube Channel for Members
(_) WEBSITE Vimeo Channel for Members

What do you think?

Hello everyone !
Thank you for your feedback

Of course, this system should be an option in the settings.
And yes, there could possibly be some options for publications on the Front-end (Official Website Channel, Channel for Members).

Indeed everything is a question of cost.
It's not so much the storage of videos that is expensive.
But that's the bandwidth and the server power required to process the videos.
And especially by the fact that the FFMpeg Library is not accessible on Shared Hostings, and it is necessary to have a dedicated server expensive.

This solution would allow us to offer our members the opportunity to send their videos simply.
And we know how popular video is today !

Regarding the issue of data ownership, I think that Stackideas should be inspired by video encoding options already offered by EasySocial (see screenshot in attachement).
Thus, the original video files will be kept on our servers.
This will leave the possibility in the future, eventually to separate from YouTube and take its independence

+1 ...

And what if a user wants to delete his video after is uploaded in ES (youtube/ vimeo members channel)?

The video post from ES story will be deleted, but will be delete from youtube/ vimeo channel too?!

If not, you may have a lot of requests from users to delete theire videos from youtube/ video channels.

Hello Christian,

This is a relevant question.
The YouTube Data API also handles video deletion.
So it would be possible to ensure that automatically, when a user decides to delete his video, it is also removed from YouTube.

https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/videos/delete

Hi Philippe,

So it would be possible to ensure that automatically, when a user decides to delete his video, it is also removed from YouTube.
If so, then this can mean GOOD BYE S3 for videos and a better SEO for website from video channels

LE: And the costs for YouTube API will be interesting to estimate...

Thanks P.

hi, hi

I just thought that I would mention this for people on a Mac & who use Vimeo.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vimeo-video-management/id1356686763?mt=12

It does at least make the upload side of things less painful.

Hello Dmitry,

A moderation system could be interesting in this case, so that the video file is seen before being sent and processed on YouTube.
