I looked around and saw that this has been reported for awhile now, but I figured that more voices never hurts!

I've had users complaining to me that the timezone menu is very confusing, as it lists all of the major cities on a continent and has the user scroll through to try and figure out which city is closest to them. It would be much easier to have timezones listed as the regional timezones (EST, PST, GMT, etc), to have a search, or to have it as a menu that opens up additional options (like selecting United States from a drop-down which spawns a new drop-down that has the different timezones in that country).

I had a user ask me how to locate Canada (as they live in the westernmost part of Canada) and I had to inform them that it lists by continent and not by country, and that they would need to scroll through America to find the city closest to them.

Is there a way to adjust this?
I don't think you can, a much better idea would be to be -+GMT indicator and maybe a couple of capital cities listed for each one. I made a request in the request box for it as they asked me to post there. Hopefully that will get fixed, meanwhile I simply removed it from registration - im not sure what benefit there is in having it there anyway?

I might disable it as well until it's changed (a GMT indicator like you said might be good!) because in its current form while it is useful for my users (they like to connect with users in the same region as them), it's a little too complicated for them.

Maybe just have the country/region fields and leave the timezone?

Hi Matt,

Yes the GMT+/- indicator is indeed a good idea and thanks gjay for presenting the idea in the other thread and creating the feature request.

Currently the field is similar to Joomla's timezone configuration field.
