When we try and search for users, no results are being shown even though we know their are users that match the search criteria. Are there any settings we need to adjust (either in EasySocial or/and Joomla) as your documentation doesn't mention any, other than what we have set (https://stackideas.com/docs/easysocial/administrators/configuration/search-indexing) already?
Perhaps you can share with us which user name you trying to search but it didn't return you the proper result?

Based on what i checked on your site, it seems like the search indexed setting was set to indexed user real name , mean you have to search for the user real name in order to find out the user from the search result.

If you decide to search indexed for the user username, once you changed this setting, you have to re-index again from your site backend > component > smart search > filter to easysocial user > remove index > then click re-index again.

Thanks for that info. It would be really useful to have that sort of information in the documentation, as currently it doesn't really give you any indication that EasySocial search users Joomla Smart Search. Also if the setting was changed from one index type on name to other then perhaps a message could advise you to re-index if that's not something that can be done programaticaly?

That said, it still looks like it needs some extra configuration as, for example, if in the top search bar when in Community pages I type 'Tab' the quick search shows a discussion but not the user Taboo (you need to type Tabo) or if you type 'Buzz' then it doesn't show the user Buzzy etc? Also the use of the phrase "Real name" is a bit confusing as I guess it really means Joomla name?

Thanks for your input, we will see if we can improve this to our documentation.

Unfortunately that was not possible to achieve this is because Joomla smart search doesn't have any event trigger allow user to automatically re-index those data when switching the setting.

Actually Easysocial search engine was rely on the Joomla smart search engine, you can try search 'tab' from the Joomla smart search page here https://faenet.org/component/finder/search , it will show the same result.

Yes, "Real Name" is the Joomla name, and this Joomla name is equivalent with Easysocial full name.

What is odd is that if we use the Search box on the Users page that works well and will find things even if you just type in 2 characters, wheras the Quick search bar won't find them, so it seems they both work in different ways?

Yes, that is used different method for these search.

Quick search - For this part, the system will trying to search all the different items like Joomla article, tags, categories, contacts, news feeds, Easyblog post, Easydiscuss discussion post, Easysocial albums, audios, event, group, page, photo, video, user and etc, this is same like how Joomla smart search work.

ES user search module - From the user page, it will only search for user, so the matches rate will more accurate because it doesn't search for other item like article content and the rest of the item on the site.

I can understand that, but what I don't understand is if I type the first three letters of a user name into the quick search, often it finds nothing at all, whereas the User search always finds things. So it's not a question of accuracy really? Is there a way to make a search box that works better at finding things?

Hey there,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.

Hm, can you check my 3rd attached screenshot below and see whether that is possible to disable some of the finder plugin on your site?

So that i will check and see whether that is possible to help with this search for accurate result? ( Note : after disable it, have to clear all the index from the smart search component then reindex again)

Because i did a test in my locally, it seems it did search properly when i type `tab`, so i suspect if the site have a lot of `tab` this value indexed in Joomla smart search component, it will not search properly for this result.

Then i tried to search another user 'Anthony Rocha' on your site, this time i also just type three letters, it did show the correct result, you can refer on my 2rd attached screenshot below.

Just to let you know I'm trialling this product (http://offlajn.com/universal-ajax-live-search/universal-ajax-live-search/flypage.tpl.html) and it works really well, much better than using your search, so I'm probably going to turn off your search and use that going forward. Based on that I'm going to close this ticket, thanks.
