Hey guys,

As most of you have already seen the blog post recently, we are in the midst of working on EasyBlog 5.1. While we are working on it, we would like to learn more about the problems / issues that are holding you back or annoying usability that you or your users are facing while authoring.

Here's what we would like to learn more and I hope you guys could follow the format below:

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

NOTE: To ensure that we are able to read these replies, I do hope that we keep this thread in line with the questions. If you guys have more to chat / exchange ideas, please feel free to post under the new "Chatzone" category
Hi Mark,

would like to give my cents here.

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

- Synchronized comments with ES stream in both ways
- Minimum characters check for posting through ES stream
- If there is just 1 template for new blog post, the template select screen should no appear on frontend
- Custom fields and fixed fields on frontend submission. EasyBlog would be an amazing CCK if there were the possibility to able to make a template not editable for frontend users as an option and have custom fields.
- Extend the moderation for edited articles. Let any user edit any article but under moderation. The moderation of EasyBlog combined with article's history is very strong since most CCKs do not provide this function.
- Better display for frontpages of existing articles. Maybe a bit like this: http://www.raxo.org/additional-templates/all-mode-portal.html Raxo all-mode has some very useful templates I am still missing on EasyBlog

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

For me using your whole bundle is one of the coolest things but I think there could be still more interaction between these components and more integration like the synchronization of comments.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

Definitely the built-in editor. It is one of the greatest things I have ever seen!

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Please do not remove options that were there before. I would suggest making them inside a spoiler with a warning, that these options will not get support or anything like that: "Expert options, no support beyond this line, use at own risk"

Hello Mark,

ok, so, if you ask, i am happy to join the discussion

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

  • ACL for categories, so that not anybody can write to all categories

  • Author Aliases like Joomla core feature

  • Captions for Cover, galleries and Thumbnailimages

  • A function to copy an already formated block (see 2.)

  • A new category directory view like existing tagsview index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=tags

  • Some more functions about multi-columns layout
  • like have x featured/newest blogposts on top in one column each and then are normal posts following in two columns for example

  • improve mailbox publishing, so you can send some pdf or other not image documents and they should be handled as a download block.

  • Some more Blocks like
  • Polls/surveys
    Accordion/Slider like existing Tabs block
    Embed a module
    embed a facebook post

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

Its fun to work with, but indeed there is one thing: If you write a lot and format it and then want to add a read on block, you have to do so in another added textblock after the read on block and actually you must format the copied text completely again just to get a simple readmore.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

Build in composer, this is definitely the best #1 editor and one of the reasons to use easy blog.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Like Sabih says: Please do not remove options that were there before…

Thank you and best regards, MAcjoomla

ACL for categories, so that not anybody can write to all categories

Hm, this feature is already in EasyBlog eh? http://take.ms/hVpLY You can choose which user groups are allowed to post in the category.

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1? More detailed 5.x Documentation!! Because EB 5 is the most robust Joomla blogging software available anywhere, it can also be the most daunting to learn and harness unless you're a full-time blogger.

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog? WYSIWYG for now given that I am brand new with 5.x

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve? Video tutorials and training webinars would take EB to a whole new level.

Heh, this is exactly what I am saying. EasyBlog is a very huge system that not everyone sees the great functionality

More detailed 5.x Documentation!! Because EB 5 is the most robust Joomla blogging software available anywhere, it can also be the most daunting to learn and harness unless you're a full-time blogger.

Well said, but may I know in what areas we could improve the documentation? Any particular section that interests you?

Video tutorials and training webinars would take EB to a whole new level.

That is a very strong point. Will take note of this.

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

1. Image captioning
2. Ability to import individual offsite WordPress blog posts (users with correct ACL only)
3. The ability to collapse the entire right side so I can have a very large work area. (A gal can dream)
4. Better comment integration with ES
5. Documentation on how to use the special built in editor (Composer) for my users (see #3 for why) End User Docs - not Admin.
6. A real manual I can download, print and make notes on so when my partner needs to look up why I made a setting decision, it is documented. Right now, all we have is online and that is pretty useless, so we cut and paste and print... ugh!

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

Unable to use composer without docs for end users and I don't have time to write those

We find the file management when adding images has too many steps. Users complain to me that they don't understand "this post, all posts etc as options) Just have an upload box and the choice of images already in the post. (this item is lower priority)

Complicated settings often nested in areas we don't expect. We spend a lot of time asking ourselves "Oh yeah, where was that setting XYZ located?" The admin side UI/UX is pretty irritating at times.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

WYSIWYG - because the members are most comfortable with it. I prefer Composer but I have to go with what they prefer.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Please don't chop out features we are used to having without warning or discussing first. (pretty please)

Good initiative Mark.

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

In general - Analyze and see why people like WordPress, Facebook, (Blogger) and what most 3-5 valuable things to copy from them about KISS easy to do functions for keep it simple and quick to use EasyBlog blogging/articles.

Make EasyBlogs tag system work with Joomlas tags hierarchal tag system would be a dream.

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

Improve RSS flows scheduling so you also can get a standard cover photos ( or different cover photos) to be automatically imported together with the imported posts for different EB categories RSS automatically. As now you have to manually do this afterwards about 4-5 steps for each of these post to have the right “shared” same media cover photo for all of your RSS imported posts.

This should be done automatically.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

I prefer still JCE, maybe bcs I had a lot of trouble with the inbuilt editor and I try to use/test it for different occasion. For JCE you can have editor profile management system for setting up customized different editor profiles for different type of bloggers with different editor rights "blocks" and also ACL together.

And then togheter with JCE you can then also use Joomlas other editor improvements like Content Templater https://www.regularlabs.com/extensions/contenttemplater where you can have preconfigured different templates imported by a click with different options, languages, automatically imported directly depending on conditions to your EasyBlog, Joomla article etc or if you want inline editing in combination https://arkextensions.com/documentation/ark-editor/164-inline-editing

That doesn’t work with EasyBlog editor so you have to choose what path you take and want. Maybe have a combination set up would be good but also confusing for end users.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Make at least one white labelled Youtube video how to make blogs/use EasyBlog for end users showing the most important workflow, blocks etc with the 90% most user functionalities as a blogger.

So web masters that use EasyBlog easy can embed this video for their users and then improve the business for their site and that will also improve the purchase/usage of EasyBlog business for StackIdeas.

Improve some of the language issues like you can have different headings in different languages when you are in different langauges. The basic settings so you can customize your EB first pages for different langauges in the headings there. Also for some modules where you have the same blog content but want different module heading title so you don’t need to make a new copy of that module just to have the changed module title there with EB specific KEYWORDS translations maybe?..a problem Joomla have too

Here's my feedback

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?
More customization/option for content in the build in editor, like table (i posted a feedback for this )

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?
For me nothing, i replace article manager in all of my site by Easyblog.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?
Build-in editor, the best editor system i ever seen, it's the major advantage of using EasyBlog. Very easy to use for the customer and each manager who manage a website joomla based.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?
A component who manage SEO on Joomla like Yoast on Wordpress :-) :-)

Hi Urzh,

You can always unsubscribe. There is a link at the bottom of each email. You can also go here

https://stackideas.com/forums/subscriptions and manage your subscriptions.

There is also a link in the forum toolbar up above. look for "My Subscriptions".

Hope that helps a bit,

I dont think this is a focus for Stackideas to develop.

You have for example Joomla Jsitemap pro that does a lot managing SEO for you.

Have you checked it? http://storejextensions.org/extensions/jsitemap_professional.html or

what does Yoast more than Jsitemap does?

I don't agree, i think the experience in Joomla could let Stackideas make the "missing" component on Joomla.
I use Jsitemap and it's a bit different, mainly it manages Sitemap, seo management is not limited on this...
The only component who manage SEO like Yoast for me is RSSeoRSseo from RSJoomla.
Works like Yoast by checking the content of the page, title, metadescription, canonical url, duplicate meta description, amount of image, alt attribute, width and height attribute, internal and external links, and sitemap + Google Analytics connection and so more feature what JSitemap doesn't do.
Most important too, JSitemap is very complicated to manage, RSseo not (i speak about customer view)
Check the screenshot attached to see how RSseo works on a page content.
But this isn't comparable both component are really to do different thing.
The only element RSseo doesn't have is the possibility to make url rewriting (like sh404sef does)
Usually i use them both and i obtain real good result in positionning content on google BE.
What i dream ?
A component who is really integrated in content manager (like yoast does) and who makes url rewriting too.
Cheers !

Hello Mark, i have two two more likes about mailbox publishing:
1. Possibility for publishing on pagehit without a cron job
2. Possibility to mail some photos and get them in a gallery in the post.

Thanks, Macjoomla

Macjoomla,

It's really not advisable to process mailbox on page load because it dramatically reduces the speed of your site whenever people visit your blog post. This kind of services should be handled in the background.

Re-posting of Previous Blogs: Give bloggers the option of sending new notifications to subscribers when their post has been modified and rescheduled for a future re-send date. We send out daily devotionals that pertain to the calendar day and re-post the same day's post each year. Different, I know, but why copy and re-post the same content to a new post? To re-send the same post also retains the hit counter.

Seems like there already is custom fields on the frontend, albeit I think they always display at the bottom of the blog post. Better positioning would be ideal (just like EasySocial). Pre-defining the layout for users who want simplicity is indeed a great idea. While I personally enjoy making my own layout, others want to worry more about the contents of the blog.

On a side note a advanced search that could filter through custom fields would be a very solid UX improvement to the system. This way I could for example find blogs from my side of the world if I was wanting information about places to travel. Or if I was visiting a specific country.

Hello Stan,

Hm, that particular table should never grow if you have more users or blog posts. They are tied to your Joomla user groups and as long as your user groups are fixed, it should never grow.

Could you please start a new thread on our forums to look into this? By the way, are you able to reproduce this all the time? (Growing records on #__easyblog_acl_group)

Hi Mark

Thanks for posting this.
Here is my feed back....

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

Being able to copy and paste blocks would be cool.

Being able to batch delete auto saved copies of a blog post?

Already mentioned but… Synchronised comments with ES stream in both ways.

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

Maybe I am missing something but as of now how do I go back and rename images on old blog posts?
i.e. Better SEO options for Blog post images.

Have the formatting working cleanly for the article index.

https://stackideas.com/forums/article-index-sorry-but-it-is-a-mess

Editing links and adding images is also in my opinion buggy.

Not being able to batch delete auto saved copies of a blog post?

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

Yes I do.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

I am not sure if this goes in here but if I share to social media the second page of the a post e.g.

http://www.finalbug.net/blog-final-cut-training-resolve-etc/entry/568-not-professional-fcpx003?pagestart=1

It will scrape the image from the main/first page.

i.e. the image from this here:

http://www.finalbug.net/blog-final-cut-training-resolve-etc/entry/568-not-professional-fcpx003

I do not believe that I can put a blog post in multiple categories?

Hm, EasyBlog 5.0 already has the ability to create multiple blog posts based on the language. You can find it on the right section when you have multiple language enabled.

Hi mark,
You people cant rest

My two cents on an allready great product:

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

I would like to see a little simplification in composer:
1) An option of a simple inline wysiwyg composer, which opens is the same page instead of in a popup
2) Simple drag & drop media insertion (maybe using dropzonejs)
3) An option to strip HTML in composer. (Many members copy & paste content or quotes from other sites and this makes the styling of other sites being imported into local blog articles)
4) Optimisation as you did in Easysocial 2.0

rest of all is more or less perfect.

regards
Sunny

Hello,
Actually making a new project and i see an improvment : for the built-in editor : possibility to integrate a Joomla Module.
Just noticed this i need to use HTML block and open another windows with an article and normal editor to have the shortcode and copy past it to the HTML block, not really userfriendly
Cheers !

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

1. Assign(1 or more) and also force post template (template with ACL + blocks ACL) to blog categories (not blog themes but post templates)
2. ACL for Blocks (see above)

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

1. TOP ISSUE - Gallery and Thumbnails blocks, the obligation to upload a file. I would like to be able to reuse/select a complete folder in the manager + also select single images from different folders + also select from Flikr + a mixed selection of these different sources.

2. Thumbnails, the image deletion/edition/replacement is buggy/not clearly reactive in the built-in composer (e.g. "?" or nothing instead of a thumbnail - in composer view)
x. it goes beyond the scope of EB, the full integration of media manager with all SI components / user account (like ark editor does it)

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

The built-in but it really lacks the integration of the media manager with ALL components (see x. above)

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Do not make existing feature paid option ! e.g. I wouldn't accept the built in composer to become a paid feature, the built in composer was the core improvement you advertised for EB5 !!

EDIT:
The issue about Paul's post bug above may be caused by a double click on "post your reply" button.
The click action is very slow, about +/- 5 seconds to post the comment.
Just like if it freezes, you are tempted to click a second time

hi Mark. thanks for your EB Feedback Questions..

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

- UX improvements on Mobile Devices for Write Blog Area/Composer/Blocks/Fields and Media Manager
- Selected Parts of the right Side Composer should only be shown if needed. ACL Support.
- Add Images/Videos functionality need less steps as or should be replaced with a easy Drag&Drop Functionality
- Image Captions must be added/changed direct inside the Composer on the Image itself and not on the right side of Composer
- Amazon S3 Remote Storage for all Images/Cover Images
- New Posts from a Blogger should be automatic linked/connected to each other if written as a Diary (Timeline Functionality)

EasyBlog must be Return to a Tool wich can be easy used in a Multi Blogger System with 20+ Blogger and not only for 1-2 Joomla Experts!

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

- Composer is far to complicated for a Multi Blogger Tool. The Tabs Fields/SEo on right side should be shown only for Admins but not for ordinary Blogger. They do not know for what this part is! Composer is also not ready for Mobile Device use.

- Why is a Blogger not able to add/change a Image Caption direct inside the Content? There are too many steps to add a Image or give a already Image a Caption. Nobody find or use this Image Caption Block on the right Side

- Lack of Remote Storage Options since the Beginning of the Tool

Here is Challenge for you Mark:

Try to post from now on all your Blog Announcements from a Mobile Phone and not longer from Desktop/Mac and you will see what issues a ordinary User face here after a while of Blogging.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

i still use EB 3.9.x and JCE Editor

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Your Software Team should take a step back for some Minutes and think about EasyBlog and his Composer differently. Because we have mostly here 2 conditions. If this Software are used as a stand alone Blogging Tool from the same technical Single Blogger/Owner then everything works well with Composer on Desktop after a period of time.

But if you provide this as a Multi Blogger System like me for different User with different technical skils then EB 5.x it will mostly fail. Because the main part (Create easy Content) is still to complicated for ordinary User.

The steps for creating content with Images+caption are still to much. i already recommended you to create for EB 5.x a UX Test with a Testing Company. so that your EasyBlog+Composer can be checked for UX with different User Knowledge Levels on different Devices and Screen Sizes like Desktop, Tablet, Mobile Phone..iPhone 4,5,6,7 or Android Devices.

Thanks for your input on this Rene, EasyBlog 5.1 will emphasize a lot on two things. A brand new authoring experience as well as a revamped composing experience. This time, I will be taking the lead

Hi Mark,

I would like to add to my previous feedback:

I just updated EB and thought...
Bloody Hell, I do not need to install all these modules but only update the ones I have installed... ? ... ? ... ? Which ones are installed on this site, damned let's install all of them and then uninstall again the ones I do not need...

So to say, I wish it was as easy to install and update modules in EasyBlog as it is easy to install and update the apps in EasySocial ...

EDIT:

Maybe you can add a check in the installation process in the step 4 addons.
It will mark the modules list with "Needs updating" or "Install"

Hello again

I have a request for more ?tmpl=component&tp=1 positions (responsive) to help us create advertising zones in blog home page, specific categories top/bottom, before/after reply form etc.

we need to earn money to pay SI components and the growing number of paid Apps hahaha

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

- Use the native Joomla Updater and Update Notification (I think you start that already) and skip the inbuilt Installer. It would also reduce your serverload, if lets say the modules are only updated if used and changed in code.

- Better Documentation (every field should be described (Example: acyba.com). There are so many parts missing, like Overrides, Security, hidden features. Documentation is the downside of easyblog. There is maybe not so much complaint about this, because you serve a complete system that works out of the box and is not easy to customize. So as it is a headache to customize, most of your customers will not touch it.

- At least you have no themes, you have styles of a theme (Wireframe). You should start with real, complete themes with a fresh and different look. You serve so man themes/styles, but the look all the same - for example the black Menubar is like a stamp that says "Easyblog inside"

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

- Use of authorname without useraccount (author-alias like in K2) not possible, stop authors for getting indexed not possible, remove author for a a few posts not possible.
- Lack of Documentation (lets say, override the placeholder image, that is in wireframe)
- Installer (a wise Joomla guru said, stay a away from everything, that uses its own installer)

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?
- I use rokpad. The built in editor makes my workflow much too slow. But at least I bought Easyblog, because I hope its perfect easy for my customers to use the built-in editor.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?
Please rethink the Installer (as it is a coreconcept to make thinks "easy", you will not change to the native Joomla Installer, I know) - but please rethink it. There is no need to install all the modules, themes, plugins in one heavy overload and again with any update. It works well, but it is bloated.

Best regards, Dan

Hi Mark,

Thinking aloud, if it was possible for users to have their own blog site as a sub domain, it would be great!!.
I.e users can have an option to launch their own blog site on parent site (Just like blogger)

It's not going to be possible as modifying EasyBlog alone isn't sufficient. Joomla needs to be able to support multi sites too.

Maybe have a SEO blog optimization tool like this web text tool https://www.webtexttool.com/discover-webtexttool/

and also better cache optimzation that support JotCache and Scriptmerge bcs that makes your Joomla site 300-400% faster! and its not good with EasyBlog but works good with EasySocial..both these components are very good and work integrated

http://www.jotcomponents.net/home/web-programming/jotcache/download
https://www.yireo.com/software/joomla-extensions/scriptmerge

Can also work with Joomla system plg "Javascript Async & Defer" and "scssCompiler" plgs

You should test this and let one of your guys test to use it your self Mark!

cheers!

@Stan: Great ideas. I'm a big fan of Caching and merging scripts and have a keen interest in Async & Defer. If it wasn't for SiteGround's memcache plugin I would likely use JotCache.

@Mark: Seems like we received many notifications about post #63 above. At first I thought it was Stan making a mistake, but the time stamp proves that it is a Stackideas bug.

Hello Josh,

Yeah, it seems like when a person edits a post, a notification is being sent out as well. Will check on it this weekend. By the way, what do you guys think of the JS performance on EasySocial 2.1?

In EasyBlog 5.1, we'll port over similar updates from EasySocial where foundry framework is now removed and the scripts would be much smaller in size.

I'm assuming you meant ES 2.0? I absolutely love the performance difference from 1.4 to 2.0. I am curious if there is interest in removing foundry from ES. While ES 2.0 is going at a good speed, lightening the script load for the mobile experience would be good. I recall the compiled JS file was near 1MB.

Did I miss how to unsubscribe correctly? Is there a magic button? It's not listed in my subscribed threads.

Sorry Josh, I meant 2.0* With EasySocial 2.1, you have the ability to turn on rendering of EasySocial's jQuery which further reduces the size of the script.

Bridgette,

There is a bug in our current forum. We are fixing this. It should allow one to explicitly unsubscribe from a thread.

@Josh I using JotCache with SiteGround Memcache and also all 4 cache plgs that I mention and the speed is impressive comparing n o t to use them.

The only thing I cant get to work with EB and ES is the rating stars for EB that not shows corectly as stars instead they are round bullets..some javascript that I cant exclude there. But works with SiteGrounds Memcache

I would be good if StackIdeas also look into how to use JotCache and ScriptMerge and also reduce/compress alla image png, jpg etc files in ES & EB et al with good quick compression tools like https://tinypng.com/ etc

I will comment on #3 which Editor I use.

I use the Built-In composer editor all the time. However, there is a shortcoming (that can be worked around). Say you want to have text, then an image then more text, then an image, etc, etc...

With the composer, you need a text block, then an image block, then a text block, then an image block.

This works but it really isn't intuitive. Using another editor instead, you can have text and images altogether. The problems with the Composer start when you want to move an image to another place in the blog post. If that spot is in the middle of text, you have to split the text into two text blocks and then position the image block in between. With other editors you can just insert the image in between.

To me, the solution to accommodate this, would be to allow the Text Blocks to be able to handle images in-line from the Media button. This way we can drop images in between text rather than being stuck splitting text into separate text blocks.

Again, it is something that can be worked around and done with the Composer, but there are more steps involved than there should be for something as simple as this.

When you can drop images in between text almost anywhere else, (gmail, MS word, Outlook, etc.) it would be great if the composer could do this too.

Thank you for your consideration.

One additional point, if different Joomla User groups or different users could set their own preference to which editor they used, rather than a global editor that was enforced on all users, it could also help. (if there is such an option already, please let me know, as I can't find it if there is).

Hello Shane,

Thanks for your input on this. This is more of a technical hurdle rather than complexity. Because texts are within text nodes (in the DOM), it's not going to be possible to have image in between the text nodes. I wish there was a way to overcome this but we will not gain control over the DOM if the image is going to be placed between text nodes.

This is particularly the main reason why we split up the blocks for text and image. For instance, if you want to drag / drop the image or change the image, we have no control over that particular node because image nodes are unlike text nodes.

As for having different user groups using different editors, I believe the first version of EasyBlog 5 had this (up till several revisions later) but we decided to scrap that because it causes too many confusions for site owners. Most of them send in a ticket complaining why the editor is loading up differently for different users

Text nodes are usually enclosed with p elements (based on how they are on the Stackideas blog). So could the image be inserted immediately after the end of the paragraph tag? Something like:

<p>Text node</p>
<img src="image.jpg">
<p> Text that was originally next to Text node</p>

Assuming all the text was originally within the same paragraph tag, the tag itself would need to be split into two separate tags. To accomplish this I'd insert each text node (two total) into an array that stores two values. The text before the image, and the text after the image. After this I'd have the first array index value (the first set of text) inserted/enclosed in a p tag, the image inserted, then the final array item inserted/enclosed in a p tag. This would make the text dynamically split within the proper tags and allow for images to not require special blocks.

What you are proposing is exactly what we are doing in blocks. By separating the text from the image, hence you can't insert images in between text.

Example of blocks based on your input:

[Text Block]
[Text Block]

If I am not wrong, Shane was suggesting that, the code looks like below which is technically almost impossible because there is no way to manipulate the img tag within the text nodes

<p>
some text <img src="https://stackideas.cachefly.net/image.jpg" /> here
</p>

Even if it was possible to manipulate the image tag within the text nodes, semantically this is not ideal.

What you are proposing is exactly what we are doing in blocks. By separating the text from the image, hence you can't insert images in between text.

I just tested on the demo site uploading an image and inserting it between text in the same element tag and ended up with:

<p>this is a statement <img src="images/easyblog_images/565/b2ap3_thumbnail_DSC00062.JPG" width="482" height="320.3291666666596" data-style="clear" />about a picture</p>

Manipulation of the image worked just fine (resizing, moving, ect). So now it's a question of this working with fields instead of just uploaded media.

Manipulating it by dragging / re-arranging works but not having the ability to change the image or having custom actions on that image.

Something that would be good also is to be able to Sort in back end of Blog Entries where you have Select state, Select parent category, Select Author but not any langauge selector filter option.

So you should add a select langauge option filter there too.. Rgds

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

a. Autoposting to more social media channels such as Instagram and Google Plus.
b. The ability to style different autopostings per social media channel

Most of my clients give up on the autoposting feature due to the format of what is posted on FB vs Twitter.

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

They stop using Easyblog when they stop using the autoposting. They move to Hootsuite or Wordpress instead.

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

I train clients on the built-in editor but the drag/drop and other cool functions do not always work the first time. So, we usually end up trying a different editor. Once you use the built-in editor, you cannot edit with another editor. So, you must re-create the post.

I hope this helps. I always include Easyblog on my proposals.

Also adding my 2 cents to this

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

- Support for Structured Data (product reviews etc...)
- Summary Block for product rating and similar stuff (delivers the data for structured data)
- More simple media management (a 1:1 Wordpress copy would be neat)
- Performance optimized Composer (right now CPU load is pretty high which makes it hard to use on weaker computers, especially when editing large posts)
- Support for sorting custom fields
- Filter articles by custom fields on front-end (this feature would make it great for tech sites like mine to build a finder for devices based on specs)

2. What is the top 3 issues that annoys you the most in EasyBlog 5.x?

- Composer bugs and performance
- After each and every-update the cron-file has to be edited with the site URL and post template settings are lost (I hide the stock templates and they re-appear after every update)
- Auto saving sometimes stops working during writing a post and when I exit without noticing I loose my content (often happens when network is lost for a short time)

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

I use the composer since the concept is awesome.

4. Any other feedback that could help us improve?

Finally support removing images from the thumbnails block after they have been uploaded!

HI Mark, I'll do one better. I'll volley back to my clients who stopped using it due to the autoposting layouts and get more details about it. Easyblog is a major piece of the marketing automation puzzle that I present in all of my proposals. So, I am more than happy to contribute with constructive feedback.

@Christopher Straßer, you have some wonderful insights about the composer performance. I love the idea of structured markup for posts.

Thanks for the input on this Christopher and Mary. Media manager and the composer is a crucial part for EasyBlog 5.1. As a matter of fact, I am pretty sure, 99.9% of you here would be extremely happy with the new media manager in 5.1

Hello Mark,

I just had an issue about the settings of options for the front-end display...

There are many options in easyblog, the option names are easy to understand but there are some illogical or not easy to understand priority of the same setting depending on the location of the stetting itself :
- Menu item settings in Menu
- General in Layout Settings in Settings
- Listing settings in Layout Settings in Settings
- Categories settings in Layout Settings in Settings
- Category Settings in Layout Settings in Settings
- Post option in Layout Settings in Settings
- Post option in in the Author section of the post section of category settings in Categories
- Post, Related Post, Comments int Post Options of Category settings in Categories
- and so on and on...

Maybe you can have an internal talk at Stackideas and discuss about a way to have a logical priority setting and modify the tooltip to explain its place in the priority list order.

This needs a brainstorming....

1. What would you like to see in EasyBlog 5.1?

- More customizations for themes (i think is good to have cover image like now when we create articles) or "integrates" with site default theme like k2

- something like yoast seo
- some modules or something like to have possibility to create news/reviews website

3. Do you use the WYSIWYG editor or built-in editor from EasyBlog?

Thanks for the input on this Dario. Wow, it looks like the list of people using the built in editor is pretty high and I must say that 95% of you would love the built in editor in the next release

Hm, a little lost here. Would you mind elaborating more on this?

More layouts

Definitely We have some cool new layouts in EasyBlog 5.1

Bad image gallery support

Mind elaborating more on this? Do you mean the usability of the media manager is difficult?

Hm, you can already add links without using the link block. All you need to do is to select the text that you would like to hyperlink.

Mobile: actually an 'App' would be nice. But I guess that would be more like a Joomla App. There is one App for EasyBlog, but I don't find that one good enough.

Facebook like: simply add a new blog item with the text in the top and small icons below. The 'Quick Add BLog' feature comes pretty far, but I think it could be improved a bit.

Templates: Cool

Gallery: Just tried to reproduce this, but it seems you guys fixed it in a later version. Thanks!

Gallery: It would be nice to use an existing folder with images.

Links: I want to be able to include links to pages / items on the site. Right now you can only use links.
When adding links to the page itself, it adds a huge log and heading. I just want to pick the item.

Hello Roel,

We have been playing a lot on the mobile version and as much as we want a native app, we are limited by our resources and financial

Fortunately, we are good at what we do and web is our forte. We have been playing a lot on the web version and things are shaping up pretty well. Do stay tune to our blog for more updates on EasyBlog 5.1

Hello Mark, this sounds and looks really great the easyblog sneak peek There is just another little thing, i would wish of a new version. An automatic textshortening with leaving formating as it is. So you would not to think about what the text will look like on the frontpage after publishing because, it is just shorter, but not uglier

Thank you and best regards, Macjoomla

Macjoomla,

I really honestly wish there is a way to do that but the only real way to do it is for you to manually add a read more tag or truncate by paragraph tags.

The only main reason is because there is really no way to intelligently know how to end a blob of html codes

Hello Mark, i was afraid of this answer. Is it possible to to hide globally the first part before readmore in fulltext view? Then it would make sense to have a standard layout like Intro/readmore/fulltext both of that can be styled, but you cant see both parts at same time?

Or would it be possible to mark a readmore in a textblock, so you could have just one textblock instead of two textblocks and one readmore block?

Why not truncate like the article app in EasySocial? Displaying X number of characters is a very consistent way to handle this in terms of styling and practicality. I've even seen some Joomla extensions have a method for fetching the last word of a truncation so that at the 500 character limit it doesn't have part of a word.

Hm, this is already possible in the existing version of EasyBlog. You could choose if you want to display the introtext in the full entry view, http://take.ms/G3BgN
