Hi Si Team

This is related to this:

https://stackideas.com/forums/polling-php-might-be-running-out-of-control-urgent

I opted for the second option:

The polling.php is a much simplified version of checking for notifications and it reduces almost 90% of the load. You have 2 choices currently:

1. Reduce the polling interval time under Settings > General > Notifications to a higher value, e.g: 30 seconds or 60 seconds.

2. Switch to a better hosting provider, https://stackideas.com/inmotion-webhosting that doesn't have such ridiculous restriction.

Now at Inmotion and my site is still really slow.

And I do not believe that the polling setting is working.

Please see first screen shot this is how I have things switched in the joomla back end! = seconds
Please see the second screen shot this is how things look in the Gtmetrixs "Waterfall" tab = milliseconds!

https://gtmetrix.com/reports/finalbug.net/ySnVqIzh

kindly advise

Paul
Hm, I don't think that result means it takes 350ms to render the polling.php but instead, it is rendered every 350ms since you have configured it to run every 350 seconds.

Either way, the polling.php should not affect the loading speed of your site since it isn't in the request of the site. Which package are you on with inmotion?

By the way, you did not include the new ftp password. Can you please include the ftp password?

Hi Mark

Apologies. I have added the password above.

I am not pretending that I am understanding what is going on here...

But in the last 10 years my site has never been so slow.

And there is something terribly wrong (despite trying my very best to do every thing right.)

all the best

Paul

ps I am on the "Power plan"

And

pps I have no idea if this is related but I have as of now given up using Vanilla.

https://stackideas.com/forums/site-loading-twice-http-and-https

The bottom line is with Vanilla + Inmotion + polling script (and/or something else) my site after a couple of clicks locks up and more or less spins into a loading cul de sac!

Hi Paul,

Regarding your issue with polling.php not respecting the backend setting, it was due to the oudated EasySocial docker system plugin. I've updated your docker system plugin, however, it seems like your site still loading the old code. Is there any caching on your php files?

I did clear the cache from your Joomla backend's cache but that's doesn't. Anyway, below are the two files I've modified in your docker plugin.

JOOMLA/plugins/system/docker/themes/default.php
JOOMLA/plugins/system/docker/scripts/script.js

Please advise.

Wow that sounds weird but hey if that is what was causing the problem and it is fixed now I do not want to complain!

I have the JCH cache plugin running.
I have gone in and cleared the cache useig he JCH plugin.

Is there something you want to test?

I have to run now....

Hi Paul,

I am very sorry for the confusion.

Look like earlier I was ftp to your old server ;( My bad.

Anyway, I've re-applied the fix on your site and now the polling script is following your EasySocial's polling interval settings.

Hope this help and sorry again for the confusion.

Have a nice day.

Hi Sam

No worries.
I did a quick test and there seems to be a huge jump in speed and I only see the script loading once on the Waterfall tab.

Will double check this evening....

best

Paul
