I am running a site with Kunena, Jomsocial and AlphaUserPoints and looking at moving to EasyDiscuss and possibly EasySocial

I have been trying to read some of the forum posts about EasyDiscuss but as i do not have a licence i cannot see replies to messages so alot of my queries are not answered.

1. Is it easy to migrate a kunena website?
2. do all the kunena items (categories, posts, who is a moderator, access levels come across?
3. do kunena thank you's come across?
4. can i migrate user's AUP points over?
5. can i migrate users photos, status's, groups and videos from jomsocial?
6. does easydiscuss posts show in the easysocial stream?
7. how can I view the themes that come with EasyDiscuss, it says on the Professional plan that EasyDiscuss comes with 5 themes. where can i see these?
8. as i cannot access the users section of backend demo, how does it work setting up moderators in EasyDiscuss and how do they move, merge, edit users posts?
9. can you subscribe to a forum category to be emailed of new topics?
10. i see on this forum the url is http://stackideas.com/forums/index/easydiscuss, can i have the url for my forum to be http://stackideas.com/forums/easydiscuss (no index shown)?
11. i have been reading that EasyDiscuss is more of a Q&A extension than a forum. Is this correct and if so can it be used for a normal forum?
12. I see in the backend demo there is a setting to turn Q&A on or off. What does this do? there is nothing in the documentation or a tooltip explaining this. does this turn off the 'Accept Answer' button? does it turn off the box that says 'This discussion is not assigned to any moderators yet. It's Free for all!'

i really like the features of EasyDiscuss i just want to make sure it can run as a traditional forum without confusing my users with Answers and Questions as my site is not a support forum.
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our products! Please find the response to your inquiries below:

1. Is it easy to migrate a kunena website?

We have a built in migrator for Kunena which allows you to migrate Kunena items over to EasyDiscuss.

2. do all the kunena items (categories, posts, who is a moderator, access levels come across?

Unfortunately the migrator doesn't migrate the access levels currently.

3. do kunena thank you's come across?

Unfortunately we do not have "Thank you's" in EasyDiscuss therefore they are not migrated.

4. can i migrate user's AUP points over?

Currently we do not have migration for AUP points.

5. can i migrate users photos, status's, groups and videos from jomsocial?

Unfortunately this is not possible currently.

6. does easydiscuss posts show in the easysocial stream?

Yes, it does

7. how can I view the themes that come with EasyDiscuss, it says on the Professional plan that EasyDiscuss comes with 5 themes. where can i see these?

You can actually try it out on our demo at http://demo.stackideas.com/easydiscuss

8. as i cannot access the users section of backend demo, how does it work setting up moderators in EasyDiscuss and how do they move, merge, edit users posts?

You can setup moderators when editing a category. Take a look at my screen shot here, http://screencast.com/t/ez1IYfwj . The moderation tools are available on the front end when the moderators view the discussion.

9. can you subscribe to a forum category to be emailed of new topics?

Yes, that is possible currently.

10. i see on this forum the url is http://stackideas.com/forums/index/easydiscuss, can i have the url for my forum to be http://stackideas.com/forums/easydiscuss (no index shown)?

Unfortunately the "index" portion is actually the view and it's not possible unless you specifically create a menu item in Joomla which links to the index page.

11. i have been reading that EasyDiscuss is more of a Q&A extension than a forum. Is this correct and if so can it be used for a normal forum?

Yes, this is correct in a way but EasyDiscuss can be treated as a forum which makes it a hybrid between a Q&A and a conventional forum.

When turning this off, it basically turns off the "Accept as answer" in the forums

Hope this helps!

thanks for the reply mark

2. is there a limit to amount of posts the migrator can handle? will it time out with 500,000 posts? i am assuming after the migration i just have to set the access levels again.
3. ok, this may be a dealbreaker for me, as my community would not accept losing their thank yous. is this planned at any stage? or can they map to the like feature in EasyDiscuss?
4. this is definately a dealbreaker for me. my users cannot lose their points they have accrued over the last 5 years. any plans for a way to do this? surely they could be imported as points in easydiscuss or easysocial somehow??
7. the themes on the demo are pretty much all the same. are there going to be more created? i would prefer a more traditional forum style. i am sure you could get your super talented team to come up with one
9. i cannot seem to work out how to subscribe to a category on the demo. i can subscribe to a single post and also to the whole forum but not to a category.
12. how do i turn off the box that says 'This discussion is not assigned to any moderators yet. It's Free for all!'

Hello,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Kindly please find the response to your inquiries below:

2. is there a limit to amount of posts the migrator can handle? will it time out with 500,000 posts? i am assuming after the migration i just have to set the access levels again.

It doesn't have a limit but if you are going to migrate 500, 000 posts it would take a longer time though.

3. ok, this may be a dealbreaker for me, as my community would not accept losing their thank yous. is this planned at any stage? or can they map to the like feature in EasyDiscuss?

Unfortunately right now it can't map to the likes in EasyDiscuss.

4. this is definately a dealbreaker for me. my users cannot lose their points they have accrued over the last 5 years. any plans for a way to do this? surely they could be imported as points in easydiscuss or easysocial somehow??

I am really sorry but unfortunately there's no work around for this currently

7. the themes on the demo are pretty much all the same. are there going to be more created? i would prefer a more traditional forum style. i am sure you could get your super talented team to come up with one

Unfortunately we do not yet have any intentions at this point of time to add a "forum"-ish theme on EasyDiscuss. We might consider this in the future though.

9. i cannot seem to work out how to subscribe to a category on the demo. i can subscribe to a single post and also to the whole forum but not to a category.

You will need to click on the category link first to filter discussions by a specific category and you'll see an email icon that allows you to subscribe to the category.

12. how do i turn off the box that says 'This discussion is not assigned to any moderators yet. It's Free for all!'

This is actually specifically for our site only. You will not actually such messages in EasyDiscuss.

5. you said it is not currently possible to migrate users photos, status's, groups and videos from jomsocial, however i thought there was a migrator to go from jomsocial to easysocial. is this not the case?

in anycase, i will have to wait until EasyDiscuss and EasySocial respond to my items 3,4 and 7 before i and i am sure many others will be able to move over.

Thanks for the heads up on this and appreciate your insights on this. We too wish to build a migrator for AUP but at this point of time, I can't give you a guarantee that it will be added next though

Oh ok. That is a pretty critical forum feature missing.

EasyDiscuss still has a few things to improve on
If it wants to compete with forums.

Thanks for your time answering my queries, I'll check back every now and then to follow progress of EasyDiscuss to one day be able to use it.

Hello,

I am sorry but we do not have a roadmap page for EasyDiscuss yet currently. The only road map page we have currently is for EasySocial. We are going to add them in the near future though

Hello,

We don't have a fix release cycle actually and it normally is between 3 - 6 months depending on how much of changes are being added to the extension

Hi,
can you let me know if any of these items are now available in EasyDiscuss or are planned in the next release:
1. Ability to insert images inline in the posts and not as attachments
2. AUP point migration
3. Thank You feature (and ability to migrate kunena thank yous)
4. Forum style Theme

is there an ability to pay for these features?

thanks

Hello,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Please find the response to your inquiries below:

>> 1. Ability to insert images inline in the posts and not as attachments
Currently it is only possible to insert images as "attachments" to a post.

>> 2. AUP point migration
I am not really sure what you meant by "migration" but if you are referring to integrations, EasyDiscuss does integrates with AUP.

>> 3. Thank You feature (and ability to migrate kunena thank yous)
I am sorry but we do not have a "Thank you" feature currently but we have a "like" engine built into EasyDiscuss. Perhaps you could change this to "Thanks" instead?

>> 4. Forum style Theme
EasyDiscuss wasn't built from the ground up as a forum idea. It was used as our support boards and our initial idea is to build an easy to use discussion hybrid with question and answers. We might have plans to do this in the future but not at this point of time though.
