Tried the different installation options. I am not interested in giving you access so you can make it run for me. I need to be able to install and manage this myself or it goes directly > /dev/null.

I have entered my domain info on my dashboard. I tried regenerating your API key. No go.

This installation failed and it said to contact support. Fine. I am contacting support.

Not really impressed with seeing a common issue with no serious detailed explanations - just a bunch of posts where you (Stackideas) went and logged in and magically made it work.

Why is this happening?
How can we avoid it?
Is there some variable your install script should be looking for to avoid this 'failure' (which is a really negative experience on first installing)

Thank you for any details,

Bridgette
I fixed this problem. In the interest of helping anyone else who is searching for answers here is what I did.

I deleted the Joomla installation.
Installed fresh Joomla.
Logged into Stackideas and updated my URL (your site info on dashboard).
LOG OUT of stackideas. Clear cache and log in again.
Generate a new API key. (highlight it and CTRL+C to copy to memory)
Download easysocial again
Use the Joomla installer to install the base
Click to do remote install of Easysocial (go through the 3 or 4 pages to confirm you have the right settings to run it)
Now, you will see a box asking for your API key. click to highlight that box and use CTRL-V (control key +V) to enter the API code.

You should see it start downloading your files and installing without seeing the MD5 Hash error.

The important part for me was to update the url and generate a fresh API key that works with it.

Your mileage may vary but if you try this and still have issues, please post what solutions you found (eventually... smile) that fixed it so others can benefit.

thank you!!
