Hi Guys,

Just activated Falang 1.4 into our site with the necessary plugin to have a multilingual site. (site info provided)
Published the language switcher on top with option for french and english.
Works well when in login or registration and switch from a language to another.
The issue starts when i'm logged in... the views' name are translated with ES !!!

/en/login/dashboard shall be converting to /fr/login/dashboard when i press on my module language switcher.
However, that produce an error since apparently the french's version if fr/login/tableaudebord

Therefore I'm not able to switch from a language to another inside ES, which is, to say the least, quite frustrating.

Any work around ?

Thanks
Hi Alex,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Could you tell me which field(s) in the french INI have you change so I can track back ?

Basically I've changed all the fields that has the string pattern as below:

COM_EASYSOCIAL_ROUTER_

e.g.

COM_EASYSOCIAL_ROUTER_DASHBOARD

Hope this help and have a nice day

Hi Arlex,

I tought it might have to do with the url rewriter but it didn't do anything. I would bet 2$ that's in the way the views are name along with the route that we have an issue. Since the language switcher only change the FR or EN and is not aware of its translation counterpart.

In a way we have the answer when we look at Registration and login, which doesn't provide any error, which make me believe they have the same name... therefore, my feeling is that it's a matter of renaming some variable in ES.
Do you really need u/l since it seems more a behavioral issue than a site issue.

Thanks

Alex

Hello Alexandre,

We actually translate the "view" names depending on the language that you are on and they are actually defined in the language file. Perhaps the translator may have messed up with the translations for these router urls?

Hey Mark,

There is definitely some big thing going on with the router because right now ES is not translatable.
I have tried from any language.
I suspect that there is error on the order of steps to router because i receive a 404 error on ES when i tried to translate the page in another language.
At the end of the road I don't think that this would have anything to do with Falang and this would have the same error with any Language comp since the error is created by the simple switch of another language shortname in the url.

Could you investigate. I would need to offer a real translated solution, especially when the translation already exist

Thanks

Alex

Hi Mark,

It's there. I have provided you the url for the english version. If you press on Français (French) in upper right, you shall receive an error 404.

Thanks

Hi Alexandre,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Regarding your issue, I not sure if issue coming from falang or not but when you click on the language switcher, e.g from English to France, the url remain in English and only the language code changed. This causing EasySocial failed to get the correct view / layout name. EasySocial use language file to translate the url. I've check your fr-FR.com_easysocial.ini and apparent the translation for dashboard view is 'tableaudebord' but the text that returned to EasySocial is still in English, which is 'dashboard'. This causing EasySocial failed to verify the correct view name and as the result, you are getting 404.

I did a test by changing the 'tableaudebord' to 'dashboard' in fr-FR.com_easysocial.ini and it work.

Have you try using the Joomla language switcher plugin? By right, if you enable Joomla core language switcher plugin, and when you switch language, the text in the url should change as well.

Please advise.

Hi Sam,

I did give a try and disable the Falang plugin... unfortunatly, it didnt work ! I try changing the en to fr in the url bar and it didnt work neither.
Honestly, in 3 years, I have never seen Falang not working.
As of right now, if I change the language in another section of the site and then come back in ES, it would have got translated (with Falang enable or not).
Therefore it is the way it is translate while being in ES that cause the issue.

Hi Alex,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

Regarding your issue, I've re-enabled your Falang plugin and also I've modified your language file 'fr-FR.com_easysocial.ini' (frontend) by replaced the string used in router from France backend to English and now your links should work correctly.

Please verify again

PS: I've made a backup file of your language file and named it fr-FR.com_easysocial.ini.bak

Hope this help and have a nice day

Hi Sam,

Yes indeed, this seems to work now! Will this be a fix in every update or I will need to make such change every subsequent update ?

Thanks

Hello Alexandre,

We can't actually fix this internally because these translations are submitted by users and they actually want to have urls based on their language.

Agree that it's part of the fr-FR ini but what I meant is:

Can we force, with a boolean setup option, the router name NOT to be translated and if so, ignore that variable and force the english version... this would make the component multi-language.

Thanks

Yeah, that would be an alternative but we'll see what we can do about this

You are most welcome Alexandre, we'll consider adding a new settings in the future version of EasySocial so that you can choose to enable translations of the views or not
