Hello,

A happy new year to you all at Stackideas. Thanks for the great service and support in the past year and looking forward to the continued relationship in 2014.

I'm experiencing a few issues and would appreciate your help in addressing as well as identifying the source.

(1) I have disabled the Following feature on the site but it is still displayed on users information. See Fig 1 in attachment.

(2) I have embarked on a few customisation of my own particularly to the home page, toolbar, template and other CSS styling. I seem to have encountered a critical issue with the email notifications on the site. NO emails are being sent to users other than myself and new users. And when these emails are sent, we receive MULTIPLES (between 10 to 15) of the same notification within the space of micro seconds. I would appreciate your help in identifying the source of this Error.

(3) I have set " who can view my story " in the privacy settings to Friends Only. This functions perfectly well. However, non-friends receive notification in the "Everyone" section even when the other user chooses to share such story with only friend . The message never gets displayed because of the privacy settings but nonetheless, a notification is sent. See Fig 2. I would appreciate your help in ensuring that NO notification is sent to people who are not friends in their "everyone" when a user chooses to share a story with ONLY friends. They should only get such notification when the user chooses to share the story with "Everyone". I have provided 2 user details to enable you test this.

(4) An individual user receives notification of his/her own posts in the "Everyone" section. Could this be configured as was done with the "General" notification by your support team earlier so that an individual does not receive notification of their posting in "Everyone" .

(5) Where users are friends, notification of activities are displayed both in the "General" and "Everyone" section. See Fig 3. Could you help ensure that notification of activity between users who are friends only gets displayed in the "General" notification and not both . As long as they are friends, one notification in the "General" of recent activity would be sufficient.

I anticipate your usual prompt response.

Kind regards
HI Michael,

Regarding your issue #2, I've registered a user named 'sam' and then I use another account of yours (brad) to send message to (sam) via EasySocial but I receive two system notification. I also notice when submit message via EasySocial, it send a message to your cometchat? Please see
http://screencast.com/t/PTcSRaI7x
http://screencast.com/t/dswK5hfzX

I not sure if your issue related to cometchat but can you try to disable cometchat and see if your issue resolved?

As for your issue where users not getting any emails, is your PHP mailer working correctly? Try to use SMTP instead of PHP Mailer. EasySocial actually utilise Joomla mail utility to send out emails, so if your Joomla not configure the mailer properly, then your users will not able to get any emails.

Please advise.

Hi Michael,

Issue no. 1, no.3 and no. 4 fixed internally and the fix will be added into next release of EasySocial.

As for issue no. 2, may i know how i can replicate the issue? what action you did to trigger the email notification?

And for issue no. 5, this is actually the default behaviour because your friend is appear in both 'general' and 'everyone' so the new feed counter will appear in these two items.

Hope this help and have a nice day

Hello Sam,

Thanks for getting back.

About issue 2, you can replicate this by registering 2 new user with valid email address (Admin details provided to delete afterwards) and exchanging messages or feeds.

About issue 5, you are right , however, would it be possible to have this done for the site? I would really appreciate it.

I still require your help in identifying why ALL existing users no longer get emails on the entire website. This problem still persists and i'm seriously looking for a fix

Thank you.

Hello Sam,

Thanks for getting back. I have disabled the cometchat on several occasion but still getting same issue but not to worry, and yes, I'm aware of the cometchat/easysocial message integration. I'll try contacting my host once more.

I have checked the mailer settings and all seems fine. It might have something to do with the server, not sure but I will speak to my host about this issue too.

Thanks for getting back. You have been of great help.

Kind regards.

Hi Michael,

Try to use SMTP instead of PHP Mailer. Most of the time, SMTP will work correctly with your Joomla
Hope this help.

Thanks for getting back Sam. On Mark's advice I rather surprisingly discovered the mails were being sent but going straight to users junk mail. Don't know why that is as this was not the case but I'll have to look into this. But thanks anyway. You have been of help.

Just a quick question, I have tried to install easyblog through the extension manager but keep getting error msg "can't find XML installation " there any alternative in getting this installed?

Hello Michael,

Here are the steps to install via directory:

1. Upload and extract the installer file (.zip) in your ../tmp/ (as you can see in your tmp folder, i've put the zip and extract it in ../tmp/eb/)
2. Go to your Extension Manager>Install from Directory and add '/eb' : http://screencast.com/t/vFbuwj4tgrQ9 .

Hope this helps.
