I thought this was interesting news about JoomlArt acquiring iJoomla and JomSocial: https://www.joomlart.com/blog/joomlart-acquires-ijoomla-and-jomsocial

I used to use JoomlArt for my templates but found that the support was often almost confrontational and so moved away to another template house. Also, the T3 framework updates frequently broke my existing sites. I suspect they have resolved these issues by now. But... it looks like JoomlArt will no longer have an incentive to create templates that support EasySocial.

I wish I could say that I thought this was good news but I am sad that the Joomla situation is such now that companies like iJoomla are having to be acquired in order to keep their products in development. I see some of the template houses struggling to survive too.

Such is life these days...
Yep, indeed but let's see where this takes us. Looking at things in a more positive way, I am hoping other template clubs would start building more templates for EasySocial

Indeed. I think more template clubs SHOULD build templates that work great with EasySocial, EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss and that whoever does that first should be able to get quite a bit of traction from the effort.

To be honest, I think it is time to finally engage a real modern designer for Stackideas. There has always been a lack of design. Pretty obvious when you compare EasySocial and JomSocial demo pages... I think many people will fall for JomSocial due to looking more sexy than EasySocial at the first look.

Nevertheless I do not care about anything related to the T3 framework. It has always been a pain. Additionally they bought JomSocial which is a single component, not a company like Stackideas with several products.

Actually they bought iJoomla which has a bunch of products including JomSocial.

But I am a fan of StackIdeas! Although I do understand the desire for sexier templates. :-)

It is curious to see JomSocial still bought !
iJoomla eats JomSocial, and now Joomlart eats iJoomla.

Do not let them crunch Stackideas

Thanks for the input on this guys To be honest I think we both have our very own markets. In terms of functionality, I am pretty sure that EasySocial is pretty extensive but definitely in terms of UI, there are still areas which we could work on.

Competition is always stimulating.
After all we are only in version 2. EasySocial is still very young
By the way, EasySocial 2.1 should soon point the tip of its nose...

I think it's on the mobile interface that you should focus your efforts. The first internet support all over the world now !
The Mobile Web Template is very good, but it needs some improvements, including a better integration of EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog.

Navigation is not always well suited to small screens.
EasyBlog is better on this point, with full screen popup. Probably because its development is newer, and it matches your new standards, EasyDiscuss 4.1 will probably inherit them.

A pesky detail with EasyBlog and the Mobile Web Template, is that it lacks the margin on the sides of the articles.
The characters are at the extreme limit of the border of the screen.
And the gray background is not very suitable for reading an article.

The bottom menu seems too impressive. It takes up too much space in a small screen.
Ideally it should be as fine as the top menu.

Finally, I find it unfortunate that the menu is invisible to the user who is not connected. The casual visitor is unable to navigate the site.
Instead we have only a padlock icon to log in or register.
For no connected visitors, it would be better for us to have the same menu but with only: Photos, Videos, Groups, Pages, Events, Blog and Discussions.

But rest assured, I find this Mobile Web Template very excellent !
Very well designed, lightweight and fluid.

Wow that is insane!

Just a couple of thoughts.

Templates have possible been the single biggest thorn in my side.
I can get one from a third party developer:
And they will help me with the Eye Candy.
But in the moment it does not work with SI products they send me to SI.
I can get a Template from SI.
And with all due respect SI are slow to help with Eye Candy and I understand that.
It is a bit of a catch 22 situation.

Recently I did 3 things:

1) Bought the Mobile Template from SI
2) Bought the Docker
3) Looked at my site on a Laptop, mobile phone and iPad!

It was a revelation for me.

Here is the deal I am more of a designer than engineer but…

With these two products I can really see:

a) The functionality coming into focus
b) The design receding into the back ground.
c) How things work/function similarly on different devices!

And I can not even believe that I am writing this….Functionality over Eye Candy! Yes, yes and yes.

I would like to echo some of the sentiments in here.

But first the inevitable detour…

I know that this e.g. is a little of the wall but here it goes…
I get off on details like this ugly can of WD40 see attachments!!!
Which is for any one who is not familiar with it an anti rust spray.
Having a straw that you can stick in the nozzle to spray oil is good.
But having a straw holder in the lid is in my opinion nothing short of genius!

And this brings me back to the Docker APP and the SI Templates and in particular the Mobile Template.
Which is I believe wait for it…
...is possibly the best thing that SI ever made!

It really helped me understand what Mark and his team are building here!!!

So what do you do?

Make it even better.
All of it.
And have the Mobile template on the front line.

Just as you do not want to lose the straw for your can of WD40…
…you do not want to lose your mobile users.
They are mission critical!!!

And then when Eileen or who ever does it, comes up with some kind of working application where we can insert our Joomla/SI sites with a SI Mobile template…. Then wow. Just wow. Every thing sits snuggly together. IMHO it is all about sweating the details which is what SI do best anyway.
