Hello,

After cleaning up some permissions issues on our server - our back-end successfully brought up and ran the Launcher, but the Installer fails to extract the components and errors at:

Extracting component files - Failed (at 0%)
or
Downloading Installation Files... Failed (at 0-%)

This occurs with either installing via the Network or From Directory
According to the Launcher Requirements state - the appropriate directories are writable, and PHP is configured properly.

However, I do note that in the Jommla backend - System Information > Folder Permissions shows EVERYTHING with a status of “Unwritable.” ???

Would it make a difference to attempt a partial manual install, upload unpacked zips to the
/administrator/components/com_easyblog/setup/packages/ ?
Then re-run the installer?

Any insight is helpful.

Kurt
Hai Kurt,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

Regarding for you issue can you consult with you server provider to make directory permission to writable and try to reinstall again easyblog components.

You can refer to this http://joomla.stackexchange.com/questions/7026/all-directories-listed-as-unwritable

I tried to install having opened all the relevant directories cited in Installer Step One to 777 - including enclosed folders ) to no avail. Again fails in Installation via Network or from Directory. Step one indicated that all was correct.

Do I need to open up the entire root directory structure and all enclosed to 777? (and put it back after!)
Or is there some manual install process?

We did work with a technician who helped us restore upload and base installation issues, but your custom installer still wipes out.

Have submitted a support request.

So that's not it....

Now have to put it all back before we get randomly hacked...

Hai Kurt,

Strange, if you’ve already changed your Joomla root directories to 777, you should be able to install EasyBlog.

Just wondering after you’ve changed the folders permission to 777, did you check at Jommla backend - System Information > Folder Permissions? Are the folders permission still showing ‘unwritable’? If yes, then most likely you’ve changed the permission at the wrong directories?

Also, is your apache user has the read+write permission on your Joomla directories?

Anyway, i suggest you not to change the permission to 777, it is very risky to do so. 774 should be more than enough.

Please advise.

After the repeated fails, for security I reset the server configuration to 755 for Directories and 644 for files.

I just got this email -

[#47331]: New Inquiry - StackIdeas Contact Form (EasyBlog)

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting us. We are more than happy to serve you and assist you with your needs. However, currently we're in the midst of moving all of our support into a more centralized system and we will be utilizing our official forums instead. The reason is because the current Helpdesk which we are utilizing, Kayako, is not an open source product and it's close to impossible for us to hack it to integrate nicely with Joomla. We have been receiving tons of complains about users not being able to log in.

With that being said, would you be kind enough to post your issues on our official forums instead? You can reach it here http://stackideas.com/forums/

I had previously been contacted with a request for back-end and FTP credentials..

Hi Kurt,

It seems like you have posted the same inquiry in our helpdesk and my colleague already replied the ticket earlier. Please have a look.
