Hi there,

We have created a "free" member type and limited the number of friends they can have.
However, when a member reaches that limit, there is no notification of that fact. Members do not know they have reached the limit and log support requests like that below:

Every time I want to add someone as a friend it keeps on going and going but nothing happens. Regardless of type of connection, phone, tablet or laptop being used. .

This makes members think the website has a problem.

How can we create a popup or similar message to tell members they have used up their allowed friends quota?

For example, if you have reached your limit and attempt to add a new friend, you should get a "custom" message popup saying you have reached your limit.
Hey Marc,

When you hit your limit and try to add a new friend, it would actually render a popup stating that you have already exceeded the limit. Is this not working for you?

Unfortunately no, its does not do this.
All that happens is that the "Add friend" button just goes around and around forever

Hey there,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.

It seems like that is bug, by right it should show a notice to user 'You have exceeded your friends limit.', I will log this issue into our issue tracker.
