Hi There,

Is there a way to remove specific search filters in ES Search?

https://screencast.com/t/b2Ai87W0Up8T

Like I don't want people to search for Articles/Content inside ES.

Thanks,

Jackson
Yes, that true, for me I only read on the title from the search result on Google.

For now we do not have a setting to disable this, perhaps you can start a new thread and request these feature on our forums here so we will see if there a lots of user request this feature as well, we will definitely consider implement this in the future version.

Hi Jackson,
To confirm, may I know whether you want to restrict search to these items only in ES or the whole site?
If its only in ES, maybe we can see if css can hide these filters.
If its on the whole site, you can disable the smart search plugins for those items to prevent reindexing of those items. Then delete the related indexed result in the smart search plugin(http://take.ms/fkCUX).

Hi Raymond,

Only in ES. My point is when a user is inside ES and searching for something, I guess the user wants to look for Photos, Videos, Pages, Groups. Otherwise, if they are looking for Blog and other content they would go to the Blog section. Just my logical (I guess) opinion.

As to your CSS solution, hiding it via CSS doesn't really fix the issue that ES search will still include search result from the Blog or Article filters. Maybe the best solution is to add a setting for Search and allow options for filters to include in ES Search.

Thanks,

Jackson

Thanks for the input on this Jackson but to be honest, I think the search should be universal everywhere. However, this really is a dilemma between many site owners because some of them would want a global search while some doesn't. Perhaps it would make sense to add settings for search so that site owners could pick filters that they want.

Hi Mark,

I agree with you that Search should be universal but what are you gonna do with a website that has a lot of content types? People nowadays doesn't have patience to go through each result and read then select. I'm speaking in my own experience with our demography, people expect that when they search for a keyword, they will be taken exactly to what they are looking for else they would simply go away and say I cannot find it. I guess, the same reason for other people who uses Google, and that is why few people are very good with finding things in Google. Bottom line is people just don't have the time to read (or too lazy to read - I tend to like the idea that they are ).

As to the dilemma of site owners , what are we gonna do as developers? Well, perhaps, settings is great! it empowers site owners the choice of having the option so they could pick what works for them. I understand the complexity it creates for you as component developer, but it is what makes your product stand out from others.

If I may suggest, an option to hide Advanced Search for selected Profile. ES Advanced Search is just too open for everyone.

Thanks,

Jackson
