Hi, guys!

I've noticed that when users have a failed login attempt on the front end, the error message displays at the top of the login panel on the dashboard (within the component), instead of in the regular error messages position in my template.

This is confusing to my users, because in many places my EasySocial content is not in the top module position on the page. So if they enter the wrong username or password, they see that the site is reloading, but they don't see any error message, and they are still not logged in. Thus, they don't realize that they had a problem with their login credentials, and instead they think the site is broken.

It would be much less confusing if the EasySocial error messages reported where all the other components do, in the standard error message position in the template, since that is where users would be seeing any other error messages on the site.

If that isn't possible, is it possible to at least change the redirect for failed logins to go to our signup page (/join-us)? In my case, re-directing to the dashboard page isn't the right place.

Thanks for your help!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl,
You can try creating a menu item for EasySocial login layout in a hidden menu. Once you do this, Failed login attempts in EasySocial will be redirected to this menu item.
It seems your site does not have a hidden menu yet. I have created this hidden menu for you. So now you just need to create a login layout menu item for EasySocial(http://take.ms/Eclls).
This is how the failed login redirection page looks like, that is if you do not assign any modules on top of EasySocial's component(http://take.ms/fQuPf).

Thanks, Raymond - I can try to work with that approach. I am wondering where else it might be confusing for users to display error messages within the component; is this true for all easy social error messages or do the others use the Joomla errors display module in the template?

Thanks,
Cheryl

Hi again -

Just to be sure we get all the code we need, it looks like I will also need to have a menu item for a login page to solve the problem with the error messages in another ticket. Looks like the same panel as on the dashboard but wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

Hey Cheryl,
is this true for all easy social error messages or do the others use the Joomla errors display module in the template?
Unfortunately, no. The method suggested is for the login page which basically directs the users to the alternative login page when trying to login. As for other pages, unfortunately there is no easy way around this.

We will address your other issue in the respective thread.
