Actually, it is based on how those user set them, as you can see here http://take.ms/4OGNM, as by default, we will fetch those emails as their usernames. Maybe you can check those details on your site under Users sections as shown http://take.ms/UXSC0.

yes this is what you do by default. I believe this is wrong and breaches privacy. You will never see user email in Facebook unless you allow to see it in profile. You should use combination of user FirstName and LastName as user name as default. I guess this can make troubles if there are same names. Then there should be some number or so. For example my name is also very common. And therefore on facebook I have this link https://www.facebook.com/pavol.nagy.54 so "pavol.nagy.54" is my internal autogenerated username. But I guess for Joomla, email is the key unique identification of user. So should be no problem with duplicates.
Other option is to ask for username if there is duplicate firstname last name. Technical/UX solution is on your side .
