When we create a new blog post (as Editor) in EB and then click on 'Apply / Save' the post is also published immediately. Currently it shows three buttons below:

Save for later
Save / Apply
Publish

See attached: EB-New-Post-opslaan.jpg

However, as an Editor the second button (Save / Apply) is actually confusing, since it will immediately publish the post due to the fact that there is no moderation applicable for Editor.

It might be an idea to remove the middle (2nd) button and only leave:

Save for later, and
Publish

for the editor and all 3 for members who require moderation.

Or can you assist us to improve this? Maybe we are using it incorrectly... or maybe our setup has an issue...

Thanks
Hi Andrew,

This is actually a correct behavior where the "Apply" button will publish the blog post that you are composing currently but it will not perform any redirection right after the save. "Publish" button however will publish the blog post and will redirect you to the blog dashboard on frontpage or backend, depending on where you writing the blog post at that time. I believe this is not an issue to begin with.

I hope I am being clear enough with the explanation above.

Mmm, that is certainly very confusing to users who are posting blog posts, since 'Apply' does not really say 'Publish'??

Best would be then to change the name or add descriptive text... Don't you think? just an idea...

Hi Andrew,

We do actually have some debated among us on what is the best wording that we can use for the "publish and not redirect" button and we ended up to use "Apply" for the button name. If you have a better wording suggestion kindly let us know so we can consider it.

We also have been thinking about it and we came to the following conclusion:

Is the 'Apply' button really required?

Since you already have the 'Save for later' (Draft) button and you have a 'Publish' button. Publish would or would not publish the post based on moderation settings, so that is perfect. 'Save for later' is good to save the work to continue later.

If the 'Apply' button is really required, then we suggest it be made smaller or put under the drop-down menu.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback. We will add this into consideration for future release of easyblog.

I chatted to a view other EasyBlog users and we all agree on the following:

The 'Apply' button seems totally redundant and we don't think the 'Apply' button should 'publish'. 'Apply' should only 'save' and definitely not 'publish'.

Is there a way in which we could change this behaviour on our site to do some tests to provide you with more feedback?

Is it you would like to remove this "Apply" button to do some test and provide us more feedback regarding this?

If no, can you elaborate more details regarding this section?

Yes, either that we need to remove it or alternatively change the name and action as follows:

Change button name to "Save & Continue" and set it so that it does not publish, it should ONLY save. The green 'Publish' button is there to publish, which is perfect.

That "Apply" language string is COM_EASYBLOG_APPLY_BUTTON, you can override this into your Joomla language override section.

Hi Arlex,

See my suggestion from before:

Change button name to "Save & Continue" and set it so that it does not publish, it should ONLY save. The green 'Publish' button is there to publish, which is perfect.

Is this possible? I really think that this is a better option than what it is currently.

Currently we do not have quick hack for this, but base on your situation, it would be best remove that "Apply" button.

To remove this, you have to open this file -> JoomlaFolder\components\com_easyblog\themes\wireframe\composer\revisions\actions.php

// Remove LINE from 76- 81
<div class="col-cell pl-10">
<a class="btn btn-default eb-composer-apply-post-button" data-eb-composer-apply-post-button>
<i class="fa eb-loader-o size-sm color-white eb-composer-loader hide"></i>
<i class="fa fa-send"></i> <?php echo JText::_('COM_EASYBLOG_APPLY_BUTTON'); ?>
</a>
</div>

Yeah, I really think that this should be added to changes for the next update. It is so much less confusing. It may be an idea to rename 'Apply' to 'Save & Continue' (remove publishing action from that button) and add it to the existing Drop-Down menu next to the 'Save for Later' button.

see attached for current views since button has been removed.

noticed that this was not yet changed in the last update. I definitely would suggest it again. It makes things so much more user friendly and it works.

Hello Andrew,

We appreciate your insights on this and I myself hate that 3 buttons because it is confusing as hell. Changing these buttons however will be overly tedious now since most of us are already working on EasyBlog 5.1, the new composer will breath fresh user experience in composing.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the reply.

Would it not be simple to do what I suggested:

Change "Apply" button name to "Save & Continue" and set it so that it does not publish, it should ONLY save. The green 'Publish' button is there to publish, which is perfect.

Currently when you click on 'Apply' it also publishes, which is the part which seems to confuse bloggers and also which is causing the issues.

Currently there are the following buttons:

Save for later
Apply
Pubblish

Apply is actually not required (or is it?) What is its actual or intended purpose? What would we be missing out on by not having it?

We have removed it as per above and have had no issues since then. Actually gotten rid of all previous difficulties and issues from bloggers. Problem is we need to redo the changes every time after we update EB... Which is not handy...

No, we do not intend to apply monkey patches like this as it is not really solving the problem altogether but since you have access to the source code, feel free to do anything you want to it

That is not what I meant Sorry you misunderstood.

Could you respond to the following please?

This is why I suggest that you wait for 5.1 because making changes now will only slow down the progress of 5.1 and it doesn't do any good because we will be revamping the composer area entirely in 5.1.

Anyway, the explanation for the buttons would be as below:

Save for later = Save as draft (Not published)
Apply = Save (Published)
Publish / Update = Save and close (Published)
