Hi,
It's been a while ...
I was wondering if the concept of a mobile app has progressed ?
I get a LOT of requests for this with EasySocial
Danny
Hello Danny,

We did not create a native mobile app and to be honest, I think native apps are too tedious to maintain. Instead, we have pushed forward a mobile template that is very user friendly on mobile devices. As a matter of fact, we have had great response for https://stackideas.com/apps/item/3361-mobile-web-template

This is interesting.
I believe a good idea (if this doesn't exist) would be to allow a download of this in the APP stores
Can you do that ? Create an app that's just a link to a web/mobile site ?
Ex: I run MAZ (martialart.zone), it would be great if I could create a very basic app which it's sole purpose (besides an icon) would be to open the mobile version of the site (ex: your template)
Does this make sense ?

It's not possible to do that Danny. However, you can actually add a page to your home screen on most browsers on mobile devices. I believe the current technology is already directing us towards that direction. Hence, the push notifications on web browsers too, https://stackideas.com/apps/item/3355-web-push-notifications

From what I am told, it is possible to create a stand alone app that simply acts as a link to a mobile version of the site.

Ex:
I create an icon and very basic app instance for both Android and Apple. All the app does is open the mobile web version of the site.

This would allow us to add the "app" into the Play Store and Apple store as a native app even though it's just a hyperlinked icon

Yes, I believe I saw this somewhere too but there is really no reason to go into the whole "submission" mess with these stores just to open up a link on the browser eh?

Actually, I believe this would be of great benefit for accessibility. I've just left a focus group and most agree they search for apps directly on the stores and would prefer to get it from there rather than even going to the website. Especially the young crowd that basically live on their phones.

Now that I realize it's that easy, I will definitively try this and let you know of the how-to's and results

Thanks ;-)

If you mean a simple webview app this might be the easiest way to get one:
http://web2apk.com/create.aspx

For Android this might make sense since Google probably likes pages being listed in their play store..

But Apple takes 99$ a year to have an App listed there and their policy can be extremely annoying. I.e. I could not publish an Appcarvers App without an EULA for registration..
