Hi

When visitors to our website make comments and then either bold or italicise a word or letter they see little tags such as and appear in editor window on either side of the word that they're formatting. Our site visitors tend to be quite elderly and this creates confusion for them. I notice it happens right here in this editor if I myself format a word as bold etc Is there a way this can be switched off?

Thanks

Jamie
Aah. On looking back at my opening thread I see that naturally my formatting tags didn't show for the reasons I mentioned in the thread itself. The tags look like a B in square brackets in the case of bold followed by a similar closing tag after the bolded word. Hope this clarifies.

Hi Jamie,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Do you mean that you want to disable some of the tag code as you can see from my screenshot here, http://screencast.com/t/UiAbK9eZq ? If yes then unfortunately it is not possible to switch these code off when composing a comment as it part of the editor itself.

However if you want to use a normal editor instead of bbcode editor, you can go to your backend > easyblog > settings > comments > general > use bbcode editor and set to "No", http://screencast.com/t/LF1cFLBKxs .

Hope these help.

That has helped in that it has removed the tags but it has also removed the facility to format any of the content. Is it possible to retain some formatting options that aren't revealed as code (bb)?

Hi Jamie,

I'm afraid it is not possible to achieve this as it require some modification and unfortunately our support scope does not include customization request currently, http://stackideas.com/support .

Is this the same for Easy Discuss as we're finding the same issue there? Can we not have use a simple editor that allows some basic formatting but without showing the bb code tags?

Hi Jamie,

You can actually change the editor to use "Editor - none" from your backend > easydiscuss > settiings > layout > general > editing, http://screencast.com/t/JCDKikYn so that it will only display a simple textarea in the discussion form.

If you want to enable HTML tag formatting in the editor, you need to configure text filtering in the backend > global configuration > text filters and set it to "white list" for specific user group, http://screencast.com/t/fZTRc0miE . Do note that this will only work if you are using HTML tag rather than your current BBCode tag format as listed here, http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_byfunc.asp .

Hope these help.
