Have you created your Googlemaps api keys yet? You should follow the documentation at https://stackideas.com/docs/easysocial/administrators/configuration/location-services-settings

thanks for your reply. I checked again according to the documentation above. I get location proposals now, however, when I select a proposed location, then the map field remains staying empty. Is this intended, or do I still have an issue? Pls see attached screenshot...

It seems that might be you havent enabled enough API's for your current API key. Maybe you can try enable all API as shown here http://take.ms/CnEC2 and see how it goes
